I needa sugar daddy..
Sugar daddy does not need you 😉
Don’t you mean a mac daddy?
Bought one for my toddler
Yeah it's a pretty good entry machine for Baby Shark and Paw Patrol.
Lol you're a decade behind what the kids are watching these days
Yeah that's all I could think of off the top of my head lol. Isn't it skibidi toilet and such stuff now.
Definitely “cheap”.
$12 shipping really kills the deal.
I find it incredibly hard to believe that any laptop could be worth this much. Also, shouldn't the transition to ARM and an SoC design be SAVING Apple a heap of money?
You’re right about “saving Apple a heap of money”, but unfortunately it’s not the same as “saving Apple customers a heap of money”.
I was trying to point out that the price seems to keep increasing while the bill of materials should be decreasing. But you're dead right of course. Apple tax.
I got what you said, but imho companies always try to maximise their profits rather than passing on to customers. The new M-series CPUs have been much better than the old x86 ones, and Apple being Apple obviously had no problem with charging a premium price for it, regardless of whether it only cost them a few dollars for R&D and a few cents to make at the TSMC fabs.
I forgot about all the noble mainstream company's producing Androoid/Windoows products and passing their cost reductions (as a result of their expensive R&D) onto customers.
Apple bad, though. Obviously.
One will have to be truly stupid or just not care about $$ to buy this ridiculously overpriced piece of equipment. I don't know what people do with their laptops
Well, if you don’t know what it’s used for, there couldn’t possibly be any use case could there 🤦♂️
I’ll give you one. Software development.
Docker runs like shit on macOS and Windows because unlike Linux it needs to run within a small VM.
That VM takes up resources and performs shit.
The best solution would be running Linux so Docker can run natively.
But corporates sometimes don’t like their staff running Linux.
Many software developers wouldn’t touch Windows because they’re use to Unix like environments.
So an expensive as hell mac with high specs is the next option.
Sure it’s expensive, but not for a big company.
@PainToad: Completely rubbish specs for 2024 except the CPU.
@prodrome: What’s rubbish? Big fast SSD. Decent amount of RAM (64 would be a bit more future proof, but certainly not rubbish).
@PainToad: Tiny Ram and SSD for $6k.
4tb SSD / 128gb Ram would be expected for the price.
@prodrome: Agreed. Ram and ssds are relatively cheap now.
I built my computer in 2020 and it had 64gb ram (ddr4 though) and ive been tempted to buy a lexar mn790 ssd 4TB (latest gen) for under $300.
@PainToad: A samsung 990 4tb ssd outperforms apple storage by every measure.
Apple charges 3x its retail price.
Apple is just too greedy.
@Jtam01: Apple moved everything onto a consolidated chip package - RAM is basically onboard the CPU module directly (as it is from it's mobile processor origins). That's the main reason why it is not at all upgradable unless you upgrade the CPU directly that includes the RAM.
@PainToad: Big companies don't follow ozbargain, and most big companies buy value hardware
Big companies don't follow ozbargain, and most big companies buy value hardware
"Big companies" value their skilled employees and give them the tools they need.
They'll buy "value hardware" for people doing admin type work, sure. But for those who will be more productive with better hardware, $6000 is nothing.
@PainToad: You're dreaming.
@mrau: Pathetic bunch of Apple fanboys negging a valid common sense comment, and none of them is likely to spend $6k+ for this laptop
😂😂😂

You're actually the one sounding like a fanboy.
excellent Android phone for $300, and a fantastic Windows laptop for $1000
These are both oxymoron's, but nice try.
@pharcyde: You're in the right place to find such deals. I'll take oxy, you keep the rest.
I did look at this and go woah at the price but then I remembered when work bought me a $6990 17" Powerbook G4 back in 2003. Wonder what what would be now adjusted for inflation, makes this a deal ;)
people spend more than this on a bicycle for leisure, spending this amount for a tool of trade if you work in IT and its tax deductible isn’t a big deal for some people. if it’s not tax deductible and you are buying it for yourself then you might just want it. Also option to salary sacrifice for some people brings cost down. Doubt many are sold by people with after tax dollars just for personal use.
2003's $6990 would be over $11k today.
If you earn hundreds of thousands a year designing and rendering graphics on your computer then 6k is a relatively low cost in comparison. And if you figure a Mac will probably last twice as long as a plastic PC laptop then your value per year of use is even higher.
we have some high spec desktops that get close to this cost, but once you hit servers this is cheap for similar spec based on ram and cores of intel sever cpu vs apple M chip.
^ So far two negs from people who have no idea.
How many people earning "hundreds of thousands a year" render said graphics on a laptop though?
Zero?
But but but how r they going to pay for marketing??? Save on design & manufacture (slave & child labour) so they can spend more on marketing.
They should increase the price for the premium pro max platinum level products they provide! They should also introduce a subscription fee for keyboard backlog ghting though…
What's the GPU? I would expect it to be incredible for this price.
It doesn't have a dGPU. It's basically a scaled up mobile phone processor (CPU and GPU on the same chip, unified memory, runs ARM instruction set).
Will you take magical ?
Too cheap
Will this run Minecraft on high settings?
Also need to know if it can run OzBargain on high settings?
Not wth RT on.
Awesome - need a new machine to browse Facebook with and send emails. Thanks.
YouTube: hold my beer
Cheaper than a house. $3000 for the 48GB ram.. 26GB extra = $3000 extra.
Which state/territory are you in?
Thanks. Bought 3 for my dog.
Good deal. I will eventually upgrade from my current M1 Pro, but the thing just works too darn well.
Inflation
For a $6,000 laptop - I would be very unhappy with 1TB of non upgradable SSD storage
😂
Cheap price
Shut up and take my money
Bought 10 geeze I’m original bet no one’s ever seen that joke here before.
10 uses of that joke is permitted per ozbargain user.
It's funny when people forget what the pro stands for. This is not for you Jimothy. This is a professional laptop for multimillion $ budget creators.
without a dGPU
"without the power consumption of a dGPU" - fixed that for you ;)
Jimothy
$3167 for laptop. $3000 applr tax for the pro badge.
Apple know their market and they know they can screw money from the pro segment easily.
Where to get discounted gift cards?
Will this help me to save $0.09 / litre on oat milk?
I knew the best part of this post is in the comments:)
The youtubers computer of choice!
Matches a pair of IP15 pro max.
Proper USB cable and phone chargers are extra!
Does it come with a 4090?
Fun fact, not everyone using computers gives a shit about gaming.
You sound like an angry person. You alright bro?
He's a toad in pain, give him a break
Will wait for price errors from Amazon.com.au before heading to OW for a price match!
I would have preferred more storage over more ram.
my rog flow x16 destroys this lol.
Wow, I thought 4k was a lot, didn't realize it's in the 6ks now
Kick a$$ laptop, but good luck with 1tb SSD in 2024
This was the best MacBook Pro deal from back in June 2023. Hope something like this comes back,
MacBook Pro 16" M1 Max 32-Core GPU - 64GB RAM / 4TB SSD $3999
I dont think it ever will that was a once in a lifetime.
Thanks op, bought 6
