Alright.

So we've got these fancy Bodum Double Wall Glasses, Pavina 2 pcs, 450ml – sounds like a secret code, but it's just for drinking stuff. Now, they're banging on about this innovative double wall thing – like it's the Fort Knox of cups. Supposedly, it keeps hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold. I mean, I just want my tea to stay warm, not join a temperature control support group.

Made of mouth-blown, heat-resistant borosilicate glass – mouth-blown, really? Are there glass-blowing experts carefully crafting each cup? It's like they're turning a simple glass into a work of art and get this, there's a hydrophobic silicone vent – sounds like a space-age contraption. Apparently, it equalizes the air pressure between the layers of glass. I just want to drink my coffee, not pilot a spaceship.

They say these things are dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe – up to 350ºF/176ºC. Are people baking their cups now? I just want to drink, not turn my kitchen into a science experiment.

In summary, if you're into cups that can handle the hot and the cold, and you're okay with feeling like you're sipping from a piece of art with a built-in spaceship vent, these Bodum Pavina things might be for you. As for me, I just need a cup that holds my drink without making it a production.

As well as a clippable mat.

Brilliant OP, and a good deal and no more condensation mess for cold drinks I assume?

    • +7

Yes good for cold drinks. No condensation on the outside.

PS, you can get slightly smaller, 330ml 2 x glasses for $10 at Kmart.. They are a good enough cheaper alternative

Only condensation occasionally or if you put in the fridge, otherwise pretty good. We had these for 2 years and haven't broken any which is surprising. Bodum is good quality and worth paying extra (or double) over the other cheaper brands.

I think we paid $50 ish for 6 though.

I don't believe the one you shared is a 2PK

      • +2

$14.98 for an actual 2 pack.

I have both the Bodum and as of recently these M&W and they're essentially the same. @Flyerone

      • Yep, you are right.

  • I wish they'd have a deal on the Bodum Vacuum Travel Mug again ! (The nice stainless one)

  • Don't give up your day job!

    • Wish I still had me paper round to be honest.

  • If you're near a TK Maxx, they have various sizes of double walled glasses and mugs for $20.

Perfect to pour my home brew into

  • Do you by any chance own a pipe made out of borosilicate glass?

    • A pipe made out of borosilicate glass? Why would I want a glass pipe? I'm not smoking out of a science experiment.

Just give me a regular pipe that won't shatter if I accidentally drop it. I don't need my smoking sessions turning into a broken glass party. Keep it simple, sick of it.

  • I bought similar glasses off Amazon also made from borosilicate, but different store. Initially thought they were fantastic until one night I found a piece of glass in my coke…. I'd put some ice cubes in first and poured the coke. What alerted me was because I saw some coke between the layers of glass then spotted the glass in the coke. The inner glass wall was so thin the ice had cracked it. Really glad it wasn't my kids using them.
I complained to the store but they just said return to Amazon.
These might be a different design, but something to bear in mind.

I might have been unlucky with the pack of 6 x 350ml from Costco. 4 of the 6 the underside small silicone seal failed and water got in between the glass walls.

The Maxwell & Williams ones are fully sealed and works perfectly fine.

For those that missed this, just get the M&W for $7 cheaper, quality seems just as good if not better than the Bodum (I have both).

  • It appears it is actually THE Karl Pilkington!
