PHI is one thing that I have figured is not worth churning in and out as no two policies are same. I am still on the policy that I got about 12 years ago which is now grandfathered and replaced with a new one with lot less inclusions, so imo it pays to be loyal on PHI

    • how much have you used it though

      • Again, PHI is one thing which we must have but hope should never have to use it and fortunately it has been like that way.

But having a good cover PHI gives you a piece of mind.
So no I haven’t used it as much other than the extras (dental and optical claims)

I think that's subjective though, especially for people that haven't "locked in" a cover xx years ago.
If you churn, not all covers are equal but a cover is better than none, and with 4-6 weeks & gift cards all over the place, successful churning could save families 50%+ yearly just on premiums.

Nothing to sneeze about, given the website we are having a conversation on right now.

      • Yep, and the fact is, most of us are only paying it because the government forces us. PHI in Australia is a scam, so it's better to get something back from it.

  • hi rep, wondering if the optical cover can be used straightaway if purchase the insurance in this deal now? thanks.

    • I know you will be able to. The last 3 funds I've been with allow this if the 2 month period is waived (usual waiting period on optical).

      • thanks mate, will get this to claim the optical that I need. cheers.

  • Can someone explain to me how the churning of extras works? Do we get a fresh set of extra balances to churn also?

Lastly, it seems that these offers are only for those that have Private Hospital AND Extras, assume its not often we see offers on just hospital?

    • The balance used on extras will also come over with you so you won't be able to e.g. use optical twice. Usual reset is then at year end although there are one or two providers who do the reset at mid-year.

      • Churn between provider tha resets the extra limit in Jan and another in Jul to maximise the benefit

  • "have not held domestic Bupa health insurance within the last 12 months of your join date"

I swear it used to be 3 months

    • I agree. I remember being 60 days or something. This 12 months spoils the game!

  • Anyway to compare policies like for like (somehow)? I'm with Teachers Health, but the policy inclusions/ extras are very different than say HCF??

    • I think Choice has pretty good comparisons. Worth the subscription to Choice, imo.

  • What would be the most valuable package? Just wanting to use it for dental, and remedial massages I think. Unless there’s better options?

  • Good deal, just churned yesterday, after much over analysis of 15+ providers this seemed to fit our needs best and provide cheapest 13 month price.

  • I churn between this and ahm so you get new extra limit every 6 month. Only reason getting PHI is to keep ato happy.

  • Has anyone tried using it in conjunction with this offer; https://www.woolworthsrewards.com.au/partners/bupa/150k-poin…
Seems like a great deal if you do the 2 together.

    • They both require using a code so I don't see how it's possible sadly

    • If you read the fine print the Woolworths offer is not available in conjunction with any other offers. I went for the 8 weeks free instead as it is easier and quicker to get the benefit I reckon.
