This might be of limited appeal, but some excellent pricing that hasn't been seen in a while from one of the the majors in Business Class from Melbourne (also from Sydney but at around $6200).

Check for dates via Google Flights and book direct with Etihad. These are available in each month up until June 15th.

  Pretty sure you could save a few hundred by booking Singapore-London buisness as that came up for me as only $1400SGD one way. Getting to singapore would be easy and cheap enough

    always a risk getting two separate tickets though, unless you are stopping over in Singapore as well. If anything happens with the first flight and it is late (unless you have a large buffer between flights) or cancelled, you are stuffed.

  etihad business is crap for what you pay - would rather spend the same or bit more for qatar or emirates out to europe

    A bit more for Qatar is an extra $2500 ($8900), and for Emirates nearly double ($10,500). So not even close.
