I heard that these 'high sierra' bags are no good though….

I've had a Samsonite backpack, had it since 2013 and still going strong!

      • I've had a Samsonite backpack probably from 2002, I've had to make one repair which was strap buckle (I use it all the time and plastic wore out). Other than it has been solid. Next repair is probably the underneath the bag which is getting old.

High Sierra is owned by Samsonite.

      • So is American Tourister and a bunch of other brands now, and good salespeople will tell you the Samsonite branded stuff is superior quality (and pricing) and they're not wrong

      • Had no idea, there we go!

    • They have a lifetime warranty, which I have used before

I have had mine for three and a half years of daily heavy activity. Still perfect.

    • From my expierence acutally owning them (well this particular bag), what you heard would be wrong. The High Sierra Access is solid…

Every big fifo company gives out high sierra bags to their staff to use for travel. Pretty sure the environment I use my bag in is gonna be harsher than yours

    • I went ahead and bought one anyway … i just hope that it's as good as a coutura.

    ??? (now fixed)

  • Looks like quite a large bag?

    • It is yeah

      • Thanks, I will pass

  • Real cheap back to the old days. I don't know why it is quite popular in here.

For the money I'd rather buy Mark Ryden from Aliexpress.

AER on AliExpress is where it’s at

      • Can't seem to find these on Aliexpress?

Nice backpack. If I needed one now, I would have purchased this. It is deep and has multiple zipped compartments for organization. Only a taller hiking backpack would offer you more storage capacity. OzBargained after 4 hours with 17000 clickthroughs, so a lot of people must have shared my opinion of this item.

I've had 3 High Sierra Access backpacks over probably 15+ years doing a lot of work and travelling. One I binned because I left a sandwich in there that grew life forms and smells that never knew were possible so had to bin it, and the other one just got trashed and dirty from use. The current one is probably on its 6th year, used every day to and from work, to and from customer sites and business trips, and shows no signs of giving up. They're fantastic and can't recommend it enough.

It's a big bag and won't be for everyone as a backpack is not just a backpack, they need to serve the purpose particular for you. If you need the size, storage and ruggedness its an absolute winner.

    I bought this one instead … it's on sale for $84- https://www.amazon.com.au/High-Sierra-Access-Backpack-Black/…

That is the exact bag my FIFO company gives us for work - there’s literally thousands of examples of this bag throughout WA. I have no idea when they first started manufacturing them, but I’ve never heard a gripe about these bags on-site

  • rugged extremes is the new high sierra, much more durable ( FIFO surveyor)

    https://ruggedxtremes.com/collections/transit-backpacks

    • We have those as duffle bags for checked luggage, but not carry on bags - would be way too heavy for charter flight use
