Crema is my bean of choice.

Any other brands/varieties that people recommend trying?

Amazon has same prices with s&s offering another 10% off.

    eg

    • They also make good "cart to-ups" to get free shipping w/o Prime, ie, get above $59.

  • I've always got Organic but I should try a new flavour … just scared to break the household status quo lol

    • The Grinders Cafe Q Cremello is really good too, but it's only at Coles I think. Basically like Crema but with a hint of caramel or choc. Very nice!

These are my go-to beans for milk-based drinks using my BDB setup at home. I’ve tried various beans from roasters and most of the other beans available at Aldi/Coles/Woolies, and surprisingly I like these the best. They are consistent and have a very smooth taste with a bit of a caramel/chocolate flavour.

They usually go on sale at Coles for $24 every few weeks.

Do they provide roast dates like aldi do?

      • +2

Nope. Only a best before date. So no idea how old they are. I personally prefer the taste of these over the Aldi beans (have tried both medium and dark roast), so the roast date doesn’t really bother me.

I’ve also tried various roasts from Inglewood, Airjo, La Casa del Caffe, plus a few others over the years that I can’t remember. Have spent the time experimenting with grind size, extraction/pre infusion times, dose etc. Some were probably on par with the Grinders Crema (per my tastes), but harder to access and more expensive.

If I were drinking espresso, I’m sure there would be far better options, but for my morning latte/fw/cappucino, these are great.

Others might have different tastes and preferences, but this is my personal preference ;)

          Thanks for the insight.

These are twice the proce of Aldi even on sale…. Are they twice as good?

This is in the price range of Lime Blue. I cant believe this would match Lime Blue quality.

          • @Darkheartz: I don’t particularly enjoy the Aldi beans, so price difference isn’t even a consideration for me. But absolutely if someone else enjoys the Aldi beans, then they are better value in that case.

Haven’t tried Lime Blue beans, so can’t comment on quality comparison.

          • @Darkheartz: I'm thinking the same thing. Picked up some Limeblue last time @40% off and it has been great (Brazil São Paulo Single Origin). The 500g bags keep well in the freezer too.

I'm almost out so will probably get a an medium roast in between orders, it was plenty good enough before trying Limeblue. I find it hard to believe Grinders would be twice as good. The Aldi stuff is a no brainer and can check the roast dates, seems like the best supermarket beans.

Ps. Good to use within a month from opening, but have got one of those coffee vacuum containers that keep them fresh.

    • What time frame after opening them have you found the coffee quality declines?
I use fresh beans and if I don’t use the around 4 weeks after opening the coffee isn’t as good.

      • We go through 1 bag each week in my house, with both my husband and I working from home plus regular visitors. So haven’t really had an opportunity to determine the timeframe for decline in quality.

I've tried this a couple of times when travelling as that's all there was at the local IGA. It's crap coffee, now owned by Coca-Cola Amatil. The last time the beans were obviously so over roasted that you could smell the carbon and when I emailed them, they told me my nose had a problem. And I'm a barista with 40 years experience! Never again from me, even if it's the only brand in the shop.

    • What is your goto bean/brand?

  • Maybe the Delonghi beans are better

  • I'd like to see an actual price in the headline, not a generic "x% off".

    • The organic price is different to the other two so I left actual dollars out so the headline wouldn't get too convoluted.

  • They were a bit cheaper a few days ago on Amazon on S&S but I missed it, I think it was $22.50 per Kilo

  • $28/kg for supermarket beans is poor value, considering freshly roasted beans starting from $33/kg delivered.

    Under $20/kg is probably fair.
