This whole process of corporate Australia pandering to the woke community is getting totally out of hand

I love the idea of the 2nd of January as Federation Day. Having the extra long weekend should get most Aussies onboard with the idea very quickly.
@try2bhelpful: There are a number of workplaces that force people to take leave during the new year period, IMO having it on the 2nd of January would make it get "lost in the noise" somewhat. I have a feeling that people would also travel during this time, either interstate or overseas so that too would make it less impactful. E.g. you're overseas in Europe somewhere and it's January 2, would you really care or even think about Australia day? I wouldn't.
I'd prefer a day where there's more of a dry spell of public holidays for most states because it makes you appreciate having a day off much more IMO. I feel like a day in August might suit most states.
Sorry are you Australian or Vietnamese? Instructions unclear
I assume you're a 100% supporter of Aust day, so the only way you can prove that is by buying all the fake tatts, flags, cup holders and all sorts of junk from Coles and any store selling the merch. If you don't clear your local store, youre just a liar and not a supporter.
Aussie Aussie Aussie
Oi
Oi
OiYou mean Invasion D?
OP, wondering about your hyocracy - have you ever bought Australia Day merch from a supermarket?
Fact is people have never needed to cover themselves with the Australian flag or tacky Australia branded junk to celebrate.
The hyocracy of Wololworths knows no bounds
Good to see you still support BWS👍
Honestly OP are you going to be outraged by everyone? Anaconda just advertised it as a long weekend. Coles talks about Summer and not Australia Day. By the time you finish you won’t be able to buy from anyone.
Look at the Poll numbers you failed big time here. Trying to continually flog this dead horse just shows your own obsessions. Frankly there are a myriad of better options for Australia day that actually involve Australia, rather than just the Pommies landing here. Even Dutters has gone back into hiding after his original rant. He realises he’s stirred up the rightwing robots but the rest of us think he is a divisive idiot who wants to get Australian workers fired by his boycott. Talk about hypocrisy he was part of the mob who tried to bring in a law to make boycotts of companies illegal.
The way the LNP are going is a bit concerning… They are arguing for the sake of arguing.. they need to really look at their parties values and re-evaluate their priorities. Focus on good policy on improving state of affairs for the Australian. Why bicker about this. It's an easy solution just ask the public to vote on this and call it quits
The trouble is the LNP are very good at negative campaign. Firstly there needs to be a solid alternate they can’t tear down easily. I do like someone else’s idea that we pick the 2nd of January as Federation day. By teaming it with January 1st we get a two days holiday; which will make this date immediately popular with the average punter. Many people take off the days between Christmas and New Year to get an extra long holiday. This feeds into this as well. It is also a significant date as it is when Australians, which we were undisputedly by then, became one Federated nation rather than a bunch of States.
Right now the concept of Australia day is decaying on its own. It is a day for a barbie and a get together with your mates. Maybe a look at the fireworks. Most people aren’t commemorating anything on that day. Right now the Government is sensible to not get into the mud with Dutters and concentrate on more important things. They need to make sure the tail isn’t wagging the dog.
Ever watched Question Time? Our politicians are a bunch of clowns. I've had more functional group assignment groups at university that are more civilised and mature than our politicians.
Some of them are not terribly mature. South Korea is even more extreme. They attack each other.
@try2bhelpful: That's fair and I'm sure there's been instances in other countries where politicians have attacked each other, it still doesn't mean what our politicians do is mature.
@Ghost47: My first line was about our politicians.
Just pointing out it could be worse.
What happened to being able to be proud of your country? F##k Woolies. Australia has some serious self-esteem issues.
Maybe some people want a day that celebrates Australia and Australians rather than commemorating a bunch of Poms raising a Pommy flag in front of Pommy convicts in NSW.
We are proud of our country but we aren’t blind to the faults.
If you need little plastic flags on a headband to be proud of your country, you're probably doing it wrong.
That’s not right. They also need to step on the flag with plastic thongs, cover it in tomato sauce on throw away plates, and have it next to their junk with undies as well. After all nothing is more important than commemorating a Pommie guy, raising a pommie flag, with a bunch of Pommie convicts in NSW than doing a bunch of things that disrespect our flag. Especially if it is on a bunch of stuff that will very quickly become landfill.
"How unAustralian and how dare you not sell and try to make money off me by not selling me $5 crap that probably only cost you 20c. Grrrrrr"
I noticed the same thing in Coles. Lots of stuff reduced by a large amount. Funny how we didn’t see Dutton and the LNP out buying the merchandise. When the retailers that weren’t going to sell the tat started to mount up Dutton went awfully quiet. Threw the hand grenade and ran away.
I notice the article then went on the rant about “unAustralian”. Brought to you by the family where the Patriarch dumped his Australian citizenship to make money in America.
So you don't see Christmas items on half price sale on December 26, Easter egs on sale after Easter, Halloween items on sale after Halloween???????
Seriously, some people live life with blinkers and believing just what they want and ignoring reality. They weren’t half price they were much deeper discounts than that. The joke is they didn’t even mention Australia Day in relation to the tat. The catalogue had “summer” and the store I saw had no signage at all. Just the stuff.
I think you are the one with the blinkers. There were a lot of stores not selling the tat but Dutton went ballistic at Woollies. The joke is Woollies was advertising Australian made produce for Australia Day. In fact it was one of the few stores I saw doing any Australia Day advertising at all.
It is yet another public holiday and that is it. I suspect most people don’t even bother with a get together anymore. Once Howard’s Boomers shuffle off I suspect they will canvas a new date that is about Australia. Not a Pommy guy, raising a Pommy flag, in front of Pommy convicts in NSW.
crap made in china that goes to landfill within 24hours
as people do not purchase supermarkets dump it.
bargain shops had a truck load and didn't sell any of it
I think some people want woolies to virtue signal.
That sort of overseas made tat is all virtue signalling. There are protocols with the proper display of flags. A real flag can’t even touch the ground when being put on a flag pole, let alone be desecrated in putting it on clothes, thongs, disposable plates, etc. So if you throw the disposable paper plates onto the campfire does that mean you are burning the flag?
This comment aligns with every bit of thought I have on this topic
