How Often Can I Transfer in and out of Belong Mobile in a Year? (Sim Hoping Frequency)

As per the title, how often can I transfer in and out of Belong mobile in a year?

Also between sim hop do I need to stay on a different provider (Voda/Optus) for more than 30 days before transferring back to Belong?

Hopefully someone is able to answer this query.

Cheers.

Are you trying to just rack up a heap of self referral?

    • No that wasn't the aim, was just planning to hop in and back again

Belong is Telstra backed so you will not be considered a new customer unless you number has been off network for a minimum of 90 days. Can’t be on any other Telstra backed providers also (boost, aldi etc)

    • I just ported from Boost prepaid to Belong last month tho and was considered a new customer.

They say 30 days but I’ve done it dor 24 hours
I have seen others do it for a couple hours or less.
Telstra to boost is not considered new but any others are fine, Aldi etc.

Don’t listen to Jim. Only part that is correct is the first bit.

    • Sorry
Past experiences says I cant agree with that and many others here will say the same.
OP just needs to port out to any other provider for a day then port back in.

  • I rang their mother company
    Was told technically unlimited times
But nice operator told me they have speed caps so not worth in long run.

    • So if you sim hop to many times they will speed cap you?

      • When Optus came in there were 2 rivals buying good customers.
Who would not take the money thrown around? Porting already worked at the analog times.
Once Optus sold prepaid kits for $25 with a $30 recharge voucher, who on earth would pay full price?
When the Mexican fraudster screwed our national carrier, sim hopping was the answer to his demise.
The arrival of HTC velocity allowed new speeds but not on competitors. Dumb fruit brand users were screwed around with 4G tablets running on 3G.
I used Belong to bump data quotes for family visits. It ended up around 2/3 rd the speeds of their parent. Too slow to keep.

Bear in mind that Belong plans are all on contract, commonly called "post paid" even though you normally pay up front. You can create debts.

SIM-hopping is normally between pre-paid SIMs, so the rules and law work differently.

    • Yes I am aware Belong is postpaid, but for this sim hoping to work is to buy the larger plans at half price.

"SIM-hopping is normally between pre-paid SIMs, so the rules and law work differently."
Could you elaborate further on rules/law working differently ? This is the first I have heard.

      • Just a general warning to anyone unaware. e.g. you must actively cancel the service, cannot just stop paying. Porting away is different. Read their fine print.

        • I am assuming you meant, if you have an active belong postpaid service and just stop paying it does not cancel the service (yes am aware of that hahah as that is the same thing for any postpaid plan)

But porting away does (well, if you do it a few business days before the start of the first day of the new billing cycle else you get charge anyway and I believe Belong doesn't do pro-rata).

    • I thought that Belong was created so formerly disadvantaged humans had a place to shed discrimination. Contract opinions may vary but when you buy a kit at Coles for cash it told me there was no GST on it. Looks like Coles either wanted to join the do gooders or programmed their system to hide the GST. I did not have to renew.

With all providers, one month is a good rule of thumb
    Belong isn’t good value anymore
It used to be with the $10 plan and now it’s scrubbed
A referral used to nab you two months and now it’s 1
The $80 sim gets you 3 months ish

    • Kinda still need Telstra network due to random work trip to rural area, don't need Boost full coverage since I don't go to those rural areas often.

What other is of good value? Woolies seems of an hassle to remember to spend X amount to maximise the 10% off

Least effort is Aldi 365 day sim and then you can use
Promo sims from here for data, if there’s anything cheaper on Telstra network for 365 days I’m all ears

  • No limitations, but an interval is recommended for the system to remove your old data.
