Anker Powercore III Had a Drink… Safe to Use?

Hi All,

My Anker Powercore III went for a bit of a drink on the weekend… was in the bottom of a backpack which had a bottle of drink (sugar free cordial) pop open and empty its contents into the bag.

Seems like there was a decent amount of liquid in/around it, and a little dripping out of the ports when first taken out of the bag.

I was going to pull it apart to clean with isopropyl alcohol, but seems like it might be destructive to open up… so for now I’ve just sprayed the usb ports & button with a good amount of iso instead to try and flush out/displace any liquid inside…

What the thoughts of fellow bargainers…. Should I keep it and use it… or just get rid of it as a precaution and buy a new one…

  • Tough call. I'd let it dry and give it a few cycles in the middle of the backyard a few times so any bad stuff happens out there to get my confidence up a bit.

    • Yeh if it was a cheap pack, I’d get rid of it no question… but being on the more spendy side of things I’m like that’s a lot to throw away…

Take it to a battery recycling collection point. It is too dangerous to try to use it.

Sugar free = she'll be right mate

    • I figured the sugar free will be beneficial as it shouldnt leave anything much ‘sticky’ behind… thus why I mentioned.

    • Sugar free, sweet…….Yeah,nah.

There might be a chance the battery management system or protection circuit may be damaged due to corrosion and that would spell the end of your power bank. And it might just die a quiet death or might even fail in a belated New Year fireworks countdown..

key to dealing with wet electronics is drying it out before the water causes corrosion. turning it on and using it while wet can make corrosion happen faster, so you want to double check that every single component is clean and not covered with residue. If you cannot open up the circuit board to clean it… then you should assume it's going to corrode in the future.

    Dont mess with Lithium batteries.
$100 is not worth the risk of a fire in the future.

Battery recycle it and buy a new one.

  • let it dry for a week first, then probably ok

  • I would open it up for a clean. It is probably fine now, but as above, corrosion could hit later.
And take care when charging it, ie. away from anything flammable. As any e-scooter should be charged.
