The Bazzas and Sharons on here must really hate the English language. No love for interrobangs or learning they exist.

        • +1

          Appreciate the moral support here.

Yea. That would appear to be the case here.

I guess not assuming and asking questions first isnt common here.
And instead go for the jugular on a commenter.

Or simply press the neg button the moment something doesnt fit with your own biases.
Well… for at least of the 12 ozbargainers who downvoted me for simoky asking a question.

    • +26

If you take a single yearly train trip, why did you waste time commenting?

      • -8

To flex about not rubbing sweaty armpits with the general riff raff week in, week out?

        • +9

Maybe he could also have a shower more often.

    • +2

I’d like to know too, anyone compare with the PTV app?

    • +23

Someone's is putting up a freebee as a deal, take it If you need/want and say thank you .other wise just (profanity) off.

    • typical Melbournian, too busy gazing into the proctologist's mirror to realise there's a world beyond the muddy drain they call the Yarra. 😋

Momego takes the unknowns out of public transit. Get live bus and train times and locations, stop alerts, and more for more than 150 cities around the world.

        • +1

well enjoy you bath today. buses, trains won't be running. maybe check the app for a ferry?

      • Well this discussion went down hill quickly.

        • +4

Just check the app to see if there's a bus or train to get it back up the hill. ;)

          • +3

@Snowie: This discussion will need a funicular to achieve that.

            • +1

@try2bhelpful: @try2bhelpful Unfortunately no funicular listed in the app. Appears discussion will stay at bottom of the hill.

              • +1

@Snowie: So many discussion end up at the bottom of the well.

        • +1

nah @linkindan was obviously having a laugh, I decided to join in.

everyone knows that PTV and their app is crap.

    • what a whiner lol

      • +1

For asking how a third party app is actually better than the real system?

The internet is full of idiots

        • I get this is hard to understand for some - but this app isn't just for people in Melbourne…….. And "shock horror" sometimes people from Melbourne, travel elsewhere…….

  • +1

Got the access, good stuff, thanks OP!

  • +1

    Thanks OP

  • Looks good for travel.

  • Berry good and useful. 100x better than the ptv app.

    • +5

      🫐🍓

  • Thanks OP. I will be travelling a bit later this year so will be interesting to see how accurate it is.

  • +17

Who is paying $80 for this at RRP? Surely Tripview does the same thing at a fraction of the cost?

Anyway it's a freebie so it's a good deal, but still unsure of that RRP.

Edit: I see that it's not limited to within Australia. That changes things a bit.

    • +3

Yeah I bought the pro of trip view so I can add multiple destinations in my list but yeah was $1.99 or whatever back in the day? Assume it’s $5 but it’s worth it, simple to use, just save $ but not buying a beer and upgrading 😅

  • +7

Is this more accurate than Google map?

  • +2

The UI is nice but I am curious if it's able to access live GPS location from PTV.

  • +2

Eh. I use Citymapper or "Transit".
    Same thing and free.

    • +4

      free with ads

  • +1

    What state transit?

  • +3

I force shut down the app but it still shows in the Dynamic Island and screen lock. That’s annoying and you can’t untick Lock Screen and widgets once activated. Turning off “show live activities” in app doesn’t disable it. Had to completely disable live screen notifications in phone settings.

    • +9

You can swipe across the Dynamic Island to switch/hide apps

      • Thanks for the tip. Wasn’t aware of that.

        • -1

          Found it by mistake aha

    • +1

Did you find a way to close them completely? This annoys the hell out of me

      • +1

For the Lock Screen widget you can swipe left and it will close completely. As for the Dynamic Island I’m yet to find a way to close it completely. Swiping left on it will hide it temporarily until the next live notification pushes through. So far turning off in settings has been my only option.

On a similar line this site is good for showing routes, costs & methods of travel between two points:

    https://www.rome2rio.com

    • their app is pretty good as well, I am using this extensively to plan our next euro trip

    • +1

Good app. Problem is you can’t set departure time

  • +1

Looks good…. however the bus / train arrival times don't seem to be synced with the PTV app

  • Looks pretty good one stop solution for all travel needs, thanks op

  • Nice one. Thank you.

  • +1

Anyone know anything similar for android?

  • Looked good at first but when I click a station to see the next departures it shows a maximum of 10 and doesn’t load more. That’s not ideal

    • 10 is more than enough? or you could set up time when you plan to go out?

      • +1

        10 isn’t enough if it’s station with 10+ lines.

  • Thanks, going to give it a go for a while and see. First impressions are definitely much much better and polished!

  • Awesome, thank you OP

  • I will download even if I don't have iPhone as saving $80 looks great (in the meantime I will use Opal & Google ;)

  • Looks great, thanks OP

I've noticed there's a "Unlock Premium" option in the settings, but it doesn't seem to do anything when I tap it.

      • Same problem here. Good to know it's not just me.

        • Yeah same here.

    • UI is awful - large font size is intrusive and overlaps.
      uninstalled 2 mins after installing.

  • +2

    It requires iOS 17.0 +

  • Thanks OP!

  • Thanks OP!

  • +1

Thanks OP! This looks great. I typically use the Transit app, but some information (i.e. future departure times) is limited unless you pay $39 per year. Will give this a go for a bit!

  • Annoying no trams it looks like? Tram tracker works great but would be handy to have in this app as well

    • +1

      There are Melbourne trams.

      • You’re right - I’m an idiot and completely overlooked it! Cheers. Although doesn’t appear to be real time, so not as good as tram tracker

        • No probs. My closest transport is trams so they just came up for my address. You are right that trams aren’t an option to select.

  • Seems to be easy to use. Good level of detail and real-time data. Thank you OP. Definitely better than the PTV options.

  • Thanks OP. Can it be used overseas as well? Like from airports?

  • US Europe NZ. I see OS and interstate travel as the major benefit. I will test it out in Italy in May!

  • +1

Requires iOS 17 or later and I’m not updating due to wanting to jailbreak. Also iFL location doesn’t work with iOS 17 either and I use a chopper to get around.

    • +2

yeah I am on the same boat; holding off from upgrading to iOS 17 for iFL and not wanting to pay for iAnyGo which does support iOS 17 location changing.

      • IAnyGo supports iPhone XS iOS 17.2.1 I have no issues with.

      • As an alternative to the freeware apps, check out pymobiledevice3 for iOS 17 support.
It's a little clunkier, but it's open source and only two commands to mock location.

    • Yeah I want to jailbreak too :'(

    • +2

This just stumped me too. I'm on iOS 16 and it won't let me download it.
I thought iOS 17 is still fairly new? (I've learnt to avoid the first version of new iOS major updates, I upgrade a few months later once they fix all the bugs!)

  • this doesnt work overseas? Tried to search for Japan but keeps saying 'network error'

  • I'm trying to click on FREE LIFETIME PASS, but get a message says "Sorry, there's a problem".

  • Is this Australia only? I'm currently in the Philippines (Metro Manilla). I've gotten the limetime subscription but when I attempt a route I get this a Network error

    https://imgur.com/a/gbEgo2Y

  • 'Momego collects public transit data for most of North America, the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand with more being added all the time.'

  • Feels like somebody ripped the codebase from the Transit app (or is it the other way around?) But yeah nice. Don’t see the crowdsourced bus/train tracking feature but the rest is pretty much the same

    • +1

They all look very similar, CityMapper looks the same and released before Transit

  • I need region bus, region train, metro tram, metro train and metro bus sometimes. In central Buctorua and travelling to Melbourne semi regularly. Metro bus don’t needs as much but will be interested to see how accurate it tracks buses from large regional cities.

  • +1

Why does it show me $149 one time charge when clicked on free lifetime pass.
Does it not charge my card?

  • +1

Anyone else have the free banner but when you go to activate the subscription it pops up with a one time charge of $150?

  • +1

When clicked on “free lifetime pass”, it shows $149 for subscription NOT free! Deleted the app!

  • Thanks OP.

After downloading and running app, I got a banner at bottom of app screen saying “free lifetime today only”, tapped that and got the confirmation that free lifetime was applied.

Haven’t used the PTV app for years but this is much improved over my last experience with PTV.

For all who wants to know. It says on their website that they cover the following Australian cities: Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Melboune, Perth, and Sydney. Developer website is travelwhiz.app

  • Hoped this would replace NextThere on my watch, after a WatchOS update and then a NextThere update made that basically unusable.

But this is worse. The watch app just searches for bus route nearby, then you have to scroll through all of them to find your bus number and tap on it. It’s basically useless.

On top of that, while the method described by OP seemingly worked for me, it tried to charge my wife $14.80. No idea what the deal is.

    • NextThere developer here. Sad to hear you're finding the watch app unusable. Drop me an email at [email protected] with what's wrong with it and I'll see what we can do.

  • I still use my Nokia 3310.

  • +1

    Expired

  • I’ve been trying to use the app but it doesn’t seem to have real-time departures in Melbourne - relies on timetable data. Therefore way worse than the alternatives like the NextThere app
