This is an HDMI video capture device. Listing says USB 2.0 is the protocol and comes with both a Type C and Type A connection. Seems it can process input feeds of up to 4k@60Hz but it must be downsampling that to 1080p@30Hz as the product says that's the recording capability of it. The reviews on the listing seem promising. More than 30 units seem available at time of my post here.

Was doing some late night window shopping of random techy things to own that would be nice to have and came across this. Checking OzB for similar product listings in the past yielded that this might be the cheapest an HDMI capture card has been posted on here before? But I am still a novice user here so I might be mistaken. 3xCamels suggests this is the cheapest this product has been as well.

Had a quick look on AliEx and found the same on sale for $31.75 Delivered on official Ugreen store (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004754486040.html).

Generally have been pleased with UGREEN product quality so figured I'll share this one with any of you that is interested too!

Their newer model came out last year and supports 1080p@60hz output. This is available at AliExpress official store for $33.15 Delivered (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006393443463.html)

New model also available on Amazon for $39.99 + Delivery ($0 with Prime/ $59 Spend) (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CFQ2BMPZ)

  • can this capture netflix or prime video, or will i have some sort of DRM issues ? wouldn’t think if it’s HDMI going to monitor any copy protection should be gone ?

Looked into this, Netflix etc uses something called HDCP for the. This capture device description says that HDCP input isn't supported. So I am pretty sure that it won't work

  • I'm still trying to figure out what this does. Would it do anything that a hdmi-usbc cannot? Cheers

    • A HDMI USBC cable allows you to plug in a monitor and display output from your device.

This is a video capture device - it allows you to record content from a device.

A typical use-case for it is to record the output of a console, or another PC. eg for streaming.

  • Would the be a good replacement for the elgato camlink?

    • Elgato camlink does 1080p at 60fps - this one only does 30fps at that res.

It works on iPad for the orion app, that is to use your ipad as a plug in monitor, this is what I use it for.

I use this ugreen capture to output switch to iPad Pro. Handy when you are on the road and want something bigger than the switch screen

  • Would this be useful to bypass HDCP so I can use my TV with Google Chromecast? For context, I purchased the Chromecast from this deal only to realise that my TV ain't compatible possibly due to HDCP issue.

Hey mate, no, I don't think this will do the job for you, since even if it supported HDCP, it'll be converting that signal into something that you could record via USB on a PC/MAC.

I've read online that people have used cheap HDMI splitters and have been able to bypass issues with HDCP, but I have no idea what is involved in it.
