To be honest, I just buy Coles 1.8KG for $3.10

It's way cheaper, and same same.

Wouldn't surprise me if Uncle Toby's make Coles products.

    • +1

Thanks, I'll give the Coles brand a go. I tried Woolies brand once and didn't like it.

      • Did Woolies taste different?

      • +5

Get a friend to make up some bowls for a blind taste test.

      • Literally every Woolies cereal tastes like it came from Wish

        My cereal rankings are
        1. OG (Kellogg’s, Uncle Toby’s etc)
        2. Aldi
        3. Coles
        4. Black and Gold (seriously, their discontinued “Rice Bubbles” were better than Kellogg’s - but the rest are a bit hit and miss)
        5. Woolworths

    • Interesting because everything I bought a Coles bag, those aren't starchy, creating a more thicker soup on consumption after I microwaved them and for some reason doesn't seem to go soft after cooking a while.

    • Uncle Toby’s might make Coles products but the uncle Toby’s taste different to Coles and Woolies brand. Both the supermarket taste similar though. The uncle Toby’s is definitely better but not worth it at full price of 4 times to cost when not on sale. Half price it’s worth paying the extra.

    • Coles quick oats aren't the same though. The Uncle Tobys ones are milled more finely.

      • Yeah, that could be it.

I just use water and then mash up with some honey.

  • +8

But don’t buy it. Get 1.5kg from Woolies for $2.60

    • +3

I tried the woolies brand once, personally doesn't like it.

      • I tried the Uncle Toby's once, (The were a free substitute) personally doesn't like it, too gluggy..

        • Need to sift them to remove the loose fine starch from the surface

    • +4

we always buy it from woolies, can't taste the different with the tobys or ALDI,
checked the ingredients, all the same

  • +1

I’ll buy. Need to lose weight, this and milk must surely fill you up for few calories?

    • +3

You can also use water instead of milk, I find the water soaks in quicker and microwaves the oats to a softer consistency.

      • I probably should. I’m the biggest I’ve ever been right now.

        • +3

Definitely use water mate. Sugar free maple syrup goes well too and you can even chuck in a banana if you want to feel full for longer.

        • To lose weigh try eating low carb diet (small size portion) with Intermittent fasting or OMAD + 45min daily walking. Eliminate Ultra processed food.

        • +1

If you really want to lose weight, count calories and find something that works for you. I use MyFitnessPal.

I found that if I just cut something, my body tricks me into making it up somewhere else. I suddenly crave more coffee, or snack more on stuff, even fruit, to make up the calories.

I found that to keep me full enough till lunch with the least amount of cravings for the least number of calories, 2 eggs and 40g oats (1:3 oats to water, letting it rest for about 30 min+) with about 5g butter and half a teaspoon of sugar works best. I have the butter because I need the fat with a meal to feel satisfied.

        • Lite milk + exercise and eventually .

          • @beach bum: I should switch to lite. I used to only drink lite or skim, but switched to full cream because I was told it makes coffee better. But I think I need to shave calories wherever I can. The fat pants I bought 12 months ago that were too loose are now too tight 😩

            • @AustriaBargain: Yes been going through similar thing,
              got big .
Started to do all that stuff they tell you and we all ignore .
Eating lots of baby carrots , celery as snacks
Rice snacks , oats and muselei mix with name brand cereals , lite milk .
you won’t notice the difference after a short time .
Same with coffee full cream or extra cream is nice when young but your metabolism slows as you age .
Requires much more effort and time to burn off

Is all much harder and slower ( weight loss) as you age , but , it does work eventually.
Just have to be positive and keep at it , find what works for you , like walking kms every other day .

If you fall down/cheat with chocolate not the end of the world , get back on the horse , grab joggers or swimmers , then keep on making effort and you’re headed in the right direction ..

      • I like doing 50/50 with water/milk

        • +1

I do 1:2 Oates water ratio for a 3 Min in microwave. Then stir add some milk. Then whatever you want. I add Honey, jam, peanut butter (sort of peanut butter jelly taste), nuts, bran, currants.

    • My recipe before workout: 40-50g Oats, almond milk, half a scoop of whey protein and a spoon of peanut butter.

      • What’s the point of taking protein before working out?

    • +2

Get on the overnight oats my friend, include chia seeds, yoghurt and some flavoured protein powder. The chia seeds make this a very feeling meal.

It's also good because you have restricted your portion size before you start eating.. and it's better than eating hot gluggy oats in summer.

    • I lightly toast the oats in the oven, cook them with milk and butter, then finish them with golden syrup

But to help you, just do the exact opposite of what I just said (except the toasting - that shit is fire)

  • thanks .. got an est delivery for Jan 11 (melb) if anyone else wanna try.

  • +2

These taste wildly different to the Coles brand organic oats for some reason. These are a lot more like the taste of oat milk and softer. I prefer the organic ones.

  • +1

Minimum order of 3 for the quick oats

  • -7

I wonder who is uncle tody never seen him. There was a Dickysmith gone insolvent (he was of a bit commi character that is unsustainable in this capitalist market), and Kogan bought it. Hope Herveynurman would be the same.

    • +2

Dick Smith sold to Woolies in the 80s

Hardly Normal on the other hand keeps going…

    • +1

      A little Googling

Following the gold rush in Australia, two brothers Leonard and George Parsons left England and started manufacturing John Bull Oats in Melbourne. In 1861 the Uncle Tobys Company was born, originally under the name of Parsons Bros

But now part of Nestle, so pay up.

  • +1

I haven't tried the oats but I find certain foods from Amazon aren't half as fresh than if I buy in Coles Woollie's ALDI

  • Uncle Tobys Oats Traditional, 1kg https://amzn.asia/d/9pBrpmF $1.63

    • +2

Tried to buy but it throws an error

  • Yep - saying dispatch 1-2 months as well. Tried twice

  • Quick Oats OOS

  • Oos

  • Thanks OP - was about to run out and i take overnight Oats to work when i go to the office. Ducked up to Coles and grabbed some :)

  • Don't judge these brands by taste but by how smooth and easy when you do your number two!

  • Am i the only weird person who eats oats savory style. I microwave oats with 50/50 water milk. Put in a fried egg, some bacon, or sausages.

  • We do ours pot in pot with an InstantPot. They come out nice and creamy.

  • So many people trying to get their oats.

  • Aldi quick oats ftw

  • I just bought 20KG from Coles, it's been a while since they were this cheap. I don't know how people think Coles/Woolworths brand are similar to Uncle Toby's. I have 150g oats every morning and my wallet would be much happier if it were true. Although I usually use Aldi's oats until Uncle Toby's are on special. They're not as good as UT's but definitely better than Coles/Woolworths.

  • Interesting things happened after eating this. I suggest to watch from the beginning. But you can start watching it from around 10:06 if you like.
