After venturing into the world of coffee beans, having previously been in the realm of coffee pods, I experimented with various providers such as Vittoria, Campos, Harris, and local smaller coffee roasters. When I tried Aldi beans, specifically, I believe it was the Lazio Dark (though I'm not certain), I encountered a negative experience. Upon purchasing the beans, I placed them in my automatic coffee machine, pressed the magic caffeine button, and added milk to make an iced coffee as usual. However, upon tasting it, I found it to be akin to burnt dirt. I attempted to troubleshoot by changing the water, adjusting the grind, and more, but the taste persisted. Trying other leftover beans resulted in a good flavour, leading me to believe it wasn't the coffee machine causing the issue. Eventually, I decided to discard the Aldi beans as they consistently produced undrinkable coffees.
Since that incident, I have refrained from buying another Aldi coffee bean bag, assuming that my palate differed from those who enjoyed their beans and that I should generally avoid them.
Fast forward to 2024 when I received a bag of Aldi coffee beans as a gift - the Lazzio Brazil single-origin beans. Cautiously, I placed them in my automatic coffee machine, pressed the magic caffeine button, and added milk to make an iced coffee as usual. To my surprise, it turned out to be quite enjoyable, not a perfect 10/10 (for me), but a solid 7.0 or 7.5/10. I was mostly in shock, expecting the worst, and now feeling a bit silly for not having given them another chance earlier.
So, I pose the question: What product did you judge unfairly and then revise your opinion on?
P.S. For what it's worth, I typically enjoy an iced latte with no sugar and extra ice each work morning.
TLDR: Aldi coffee beans, are not the worst (I did get a lemon batch the first time I tried them though)
