  • Are these good for desktop PC replacements? my logitechs are hanging on by the last thread of dodgy cable connection.

    • +4

Yes, I use them for my primary desktop. A bit bassy for Zoom calls etc, but you can roll that out with a turn of the dial.

I use them on via a Desktop in the Garage as well for Music, Foxtel Streaming etc when I am working out there and they are really good. Can hear it out in the street (a good 20m away) when turned up.

I got a 3rd pair for the Caravan for Bluetooth connection primarily.

You might be better off keeping your PC. These don't have wifi or even a display; graphics sucks but at least there's no need for cooling.

Also all the inputs are in the back and the controls are on the side, which might be inconvenient and not suit everyone's setup. If on BT, the sound lags behind the picture on your screen. That's from my experience. The sound is decent, which is the most important thing here, I guess, but you generally get what you pay - ie. could be more. I regret getting all my cheap Edifiers.

I think you missed the point. The question was are these speakers good to replace existing speakers used on a PC. Not replacing the entire PC with these speakers!

If on BT, the sound lags behind the picture on your screen. That's from my experience.

Yes, that is correct, there sometimes can be a bit more latency/lag for vision vs audio.

But if you are using a computer, may as well hook them up by the provided RCA to 3.5mm headphone in the box.

I didn't miss the point, but I did attempt at a joke and badly misjudged the audience. Oh well!

Anyway, if you're desperate for cheap speakers, these are the way. If you're after something with better ergonomics, look elsewhere.

@pizzaguy: lmao I got the joke I just think you went too deep into it and threw people off with that recommendation at the end

      • But surely I can play fortnite on it, yeh? how bad could it be?

(I got the joke and I'd honestly disappointed if the ozb community hadn't picked it up so well played. I did notice the opportunity for misunderstanding but was too lazy to edit.)

I was just cheeky, I hated nothing!

  • Any good for an Xbox Series X desk setup?

    • +2

I don't have one but I ran into the same issue with the PS5, stupidly, neither consoles support bluetooth audio or regular audio out via 3.5mm or whatever. The only way seems to be HDMI audio or some kind of bluetooth transmitter. The way I've done it with my ps5 is sketch but it works, HDMI into my monitor and 3.5mm headphone out of my monitor into my speakers via an interface… Incredible that modern day consoles have this issue but alas here we are

      • I'm using a Dell G3223Q as the monitor. Wondering if I could somehow connect to the monitor and have the sound passthrough from Xbox > Monitor > Speakers?

        • HAHAHAH well funny that, I have the exact same monitor! So I can confirm as long as you have a way of converting 3.5mm to whatever your speakers take, through an audio interface or some adapters, it does work with that monitor since it has a headphone out near the usb hub. My setup is with a motu m2 I have the audio jack split into 2 3.5mms since I have it plugged into one of the mic inputs on my motu and adapted to 6.35mm. Super sketchy but yeah if you can get a way to get 3.5mm to your speakers it will work that way. Just be careful about mono and stereo since I had to split mine to get stereo sound

Also looking to replace some old logitech PC speakers. Forgive my ignorance but do I need to add a subwoofer to these as well or the one on the speakers is sufficient =enough=

    • The one built-in is sufficient. I use them for Music all the time and they are great. Don't need an external sub.

    • +3

These are active/powered speakers, so they usually have something built in as a simple package, not designed to be hooked up to an amplifier to set up subs etc.

    • +1

Should also be noted these are the DB model, not newer DBs model which has a subwoofer output.
That said, they have a fair bit of bass so unlikely you'd need to add a sub for desktop use.

  • Got the R1380T for $24.84 via Amazon BFS.

Anyone recommend a decent Bluetooth transmitter thingy?

    • +2

Maybe something like this. You would want something with RCA out so you can go RCA into the speakers.

    • +1

I would also like to know this. Although I got the same ones in an earlier deal for around $59. That $24.84 deal was awesome!

    • What are you primarily using as the audio source?

      • Bedroom TV

        • What output does your TV have, or is it more of a distance thing where you must use bluetooth?

          • @Tbargain12: Thanks for all the replies. I don't want any wires and occasionally use connect to my phone. Want the source to be the TV

Just to be clear. Tv has Bluetooth but speakers do not have it.

        • +1

Do you want to use the TV as the BT source or something else. Just that these speakers don't have low latency bluetooth so you'll likely have sync issues with a video source.

The KB9 bluetooth transmitter is a compact USB transmitter with an AUX input. It works as a USB soundcard for your PC/TV Box or if your TV allows changing the output otherwise can just use a USB port as the powersupply and connect the AUX cable. (There is a KB9P model with higher bit/sampling rate but you'll have better compatibility with the KB9) Maybe overkill for these speakers though as the main benefit is they support aptX Adaptive and LL, the box Skatez suggested might do the job.

  • These or the Creative Pebble PLUS 2.1 with sub for $50 at umart?.

    • +1

Pebble for aesthetics, these for performance.

    • +1

Pebble for USB, these for BT.

      • +1

Pebble Plus 2.1 is 3.5mm AUX input only. no USB audio the USB cable is for power only.

  • is the R1280DBs worth an extra $30 ($129 @Centrecom)?
