LG 55" Full HD Smart LED LCD TV- $1047.20 @ Dick smith

310

Update: just came across this in the DSE sale. $1047.20 is pretty good(not delivered though)

Bing Lee is having a sale on its LG products and I came across this TV (55LS5700). It's a SMART 55 inch LED TV. A quick search indicates that it has pretty decent/good reviews.
The specs are fairly standard (100 Hz, USB ports, HDMI ports , etc). It is Wi-Fi "ready", but it does have a LAN port. It also has a "DVR" function built in and most importantly, it does not have 3D (which is good!). LG and Samsung are probably the only two brands which can play most file formats off a USB stick.

Update: See Muffinpup's comment below: You can register your purchase (no POP required) for the $100 free app offer: http://au.lgappstv.com/appspc/main/main/main.lge

Cheers,
Jack

Decent price. Difference here is Sammys play pretty much evrything you throw at 'em but LGs aren't as tolerant. oh and they won't play audio for files with DTS.

Sammys have built in DTS decoding? Interesting.

      • i heard lg doesnt pay dts licence for its 2011 editions TVs.. the 2012 are ok with DTS

  • Please enlighten me on why no 3D is good?

No 3D save you $ for the same size smart tv? Isn't it good to save $ when you don't need it.

      • That's a strange way to turn the lack of a feature into a positive ..

    • for me i like 3D eventho i only watch 3ds once a week. you better go to the store and try yourself.
its just annoying if you find a torrent with dts then you need to convert dts to ac3. lucky this doesnt take long maybe 5-8mins per movie

IMHO, 3D is a gimmick (at least for the time being). There is absolutley no 3D content on TV channels (a game of 3D footy doesn't count!). The latest 3D Tvs have a feature to convert 2D content to 3D,and it doesn't work very well. So, you are left with the only option of watching 3D movies using your 3D Blu-Ray player ($$$).

Most TV brands are "generously" giving out 2 glasses for free, and obviously you need to purchase more glasses ($$$) if you have kids or want to entertain guests. And my last gripe about 3D TVs, I simply can't watch movies using those glasses for a long period of time, it's not comfortable (and I have no issues watching it in a theatre)

Some people love 3D, but I don't want to pay extra $$$ for a feature that I won't be using in the near future.

p.s. I used to work in the home entertainment section at DJs a few years ago :)

      • another option without buying br player n discs is to get side by side 3D movies from ****.

there are 2 3d types active and passive. passive one (Lg) use "free" glasses you can pick up from cinema. active one is the expensive glasses and not compatible for each tv brands, use battery, and emitted signals from it to tv.

I have an LG 3D TV. Quality is better for 2D content on a 2D TV.

Whatever process they use for polarization gives you very slight alternating grey horizontal lines all the way down the TV. During normal viewing you don't see it, but every so often your eyes will adjust and they'll pop into view.

Also the 3D itself is a little disappointing. I use it, but it's all pop-back 3D instead of pop-up/out 3D.

I still prefer having a 3D TV but I understand those that specifically don't want it.

Jbhifi is selling the exactly same tv for $300 more + delivery.

  • Cheaper by 11 bucks at Hardly Normals if you can pick up.
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-55ls5700-55-full-high-defi…

    • Would rather pay 11 delivered. But is there a bonus 100 LG credit if buy from binglee?

      • I just signed up through the link on the HN website and got the $100 LG credit :)

It doesn't require any proof of purchase etc. You need register and enter in your credit card details though.

I purchased this tv at bing lee fairfield yesterday for $1150 + $55 delivery…also got aircon and washing machine though.

  • it seems cheap for a 55inch "smart" one.

    but no 3d + 100 hz.

    • not sure if mine (200hz) has better quality than 100hz ones.. i dont have other tv with 100hz so….
can people really tell the difference when watching 100 vs 200hz?

    • Some people (including me) find a 200Hz pic to be "unrealistic", it just looks weird. (Heck, even 100Hz looks weird to me). But, try and compare a 100Hz TV with a 200Hz one, side by side, and see what you like.
