Nice - phased rollout and still not available in all regions for use though

    • +2

Microsoft must be spending hundreds of thousands of dollars a day on servers for AI. Phased rollout makes sense.

Yeah anyone know? Seems identical to the bing app which also allows you to use GTP4

    • Yeah and the same as using Edge browser on iOS.

It's honestly less helpful than full ChatGPT4. It holds info back as if it doesn't want to help you fully cheat on your paper. But it's also free and works.

All social media has AI bots interacting and learning from humans. Posters respond to them as if they’re human. It’s insidious. This costs the company mega dollars but generously gives it out for free for a reason. Neg away , sleepers.

      • copolit is sold in tiers with different functionality in different tiers …this is the free one …at work we have the paid tiers for some users and it’s much more advanced. once people are used to it, they will want it at work, and work would need the paid version for privacy as free uses data to train, the paid versions doesn’t save personal info from your data to MS.
if you are worried about privacy research “pixel tracking from web pages” before you use web mail next time.

        • +1

Where did I say I was worried about privacy? We have none.

    • Well yeah, the Chinese and American governments alone must have some secret AI projects going on that we don't know about. The NSA has a need for AI to handle the sheer amount of data they get on the daily.

Do you have your tinfoil hat on? If so you will be safe, glyptothek, the world is out to get you as your web browsing history is that valuable…

  • Any copyrighters still have a job?

    • +10

Yeah, I know a couple. The chat gpt stuff is bland and low value.
It's a bit like how when desktop publishing became available all the local cafes and school newsletters suddenly looked a little more polished. Cafes and school newsletter writers weren't paying people to do this, but when it became "free", then sure.
If you are writing the BMW car brochure, chatgpt isn't a substitute. If your living was writing clickbait articles on the 16 1980s celebrities you won't believe today - well, you weren't banking on making a career of that, hopefully.

      • +3

If you are writing the BMW car brochure, chatgpt isn't a substitute

Not true. Sales brochures are exactly the kind of thing AI does easily.

        • Do you write sales brochures? You might be surprised that it is a bit more involved than asking the new kid to write it on their first day.
Even if you can't tell the difference between a carefully written brochure and one spat out by a LLM, if they sell fewer cars, it is a false economy.

It is like outsourcing. Everyone thinks someone else's job can be easily outsourced, but when you know about the job it is clear there is more to it.

Use chat gpt for your work for a month and tell me if you still have a job. Or maybe there is more to it?

          • +1

@mskeggs: Are BMW buyers swayed by sales brochures? I doubt it.

"Selling fewer cars" is an outcome impossible to trace back to the quality of a brochure. You could hand-write the best brochure in the world and have a lousy sales year.

"between a carefully written brochure and one spat out by a LLM…"

You are overvaluing sales brochures while undervaluing what the AI "spits out". The LLM will draw upon literally millions of brochures and promotional content to find common patterns and arrangements. "Spitting out" suggests a clumsy uncontrolled approach, but that technically isn't what's happening.

Obviously a human needs final say on what the AI does along with tweaks and choosing the best photos and illustrations. So your brochure writers and designers are still employed and making decisions. But promotional content in general is easy for chatGPT to produce reasonably good content. We can't know how much it's used in marketing departments. Even within marketing teams, when copy is generated by AI then tweaked slightly by a human, the author of that copy is now a human.

    • Copyrighters need copywriters.

  • Having a dedicated copilot mobile app is much better than the start and bing apps

  • Is there anything you need to activate to use GPT-4 ongoing (other than toggle it on) or is this free ongoing by going through this app?

    • +1

free, but need to sign in for more questions and longer prompts.

      • +1

There's no way to save a history of the chats right? It seems that the chat is deleted when you open a new one.

Also, there's no way to change the settings is there? I'd prefer it if the enter button was a new paragraph rather than sending the message

        • seems like it, unfortunately

        • +4

You can use the 3 dots -> chat history to access the chats.

AI really scares me (no joke), it will (or has already) put a lot of designers (especially 2d) out of work imo :(

  • Is there much difference between 3.5 and 4?

It seems to give me very similar answers.

    • +14

      Yes the difference is 0.5

      • Can confirm, 0.5 here as well

    • depends on what you ask, some stuff is a bit better on 3.5, and vice versa.

a bit of trial and error required here.

      • I use 3.5 sometimes as it's much faster and I don't necessarily need the fancy stuff in 4.

    • +1

As somebody who has spent a lot of time with both, 4 is across the board noticeably better than 3.5.

  • +1

First interaction with Copilot, I asked Copilot for the Powerball numbers for next week, it replied I cant predict the future. I thought well that's useless then?

Keep your distance you ruddy robots!…

  • How is it comapred to chatgpt 3?

    • newer

    • 4 is slower

      • yeah, because it's added 3-4 years of additional data

  • Asked if i am using chatgpt 4 and it said “ No, you are not using ChatGPT-4. You are chatting with me, Bing. I am a conversational AI system that can help you with various tasks and topics. I can also generate creative and informative content, such as poems, stories, code, essays, songs, and more. 😊

ChatGPT-4 is another conversational AI model by OpenAI, which is more advanced than ChatGPT, a system based on GPT-3.5¹². ChatGPT-4 can analyze image-related queries, unlike GPT-3 and GPT-3.5, which only process text inputs³. ChatGPT-4 is also more creative, collaborative, and accurate than ChatGPT, and can generate, edit, and iterate with users on various writing tasks¹⁴. ChatGPT-4 is available via the paid chatbot product ChatGPT Plus, and via OpenAI's API¹⁵.

If you want to learn more about ChatGPT-4, you can visit OpenAI's website or Wikipedia. If you want to chat with me, you can ask me anything or tell me what you want me to do. I'm always happy to help. “

Did turn on the toggle on the top. Missed anything?

    • Yeah I’m confused so this copilot is just bing AI, nothing to go with chat gpt (4) ?

    • -1

I did the same thing and got a similar result. ChatGPT 4.0 toggle on, get a response “okay ChatGPT it is” or similar, but ask it about itself and it says it’s Bing. Ask it specifically if it’s ChatGPT 4 and it says no, it’s Bing.

      • Yeah we got dupped lol I guess free bing AI it is. On another note I heard chat gpt 3 is free whereas chat gpt 4 you have to pay to use it?

  • Looks like creating pictures is limited to 30. A day, week or month ?

    • +3

A day, week or month ?

Or even year…… I'll be there for you…

    • +1

I asked the same question from it and below is reply:

The limit being shown at the bottom of each reply is the number of turns left in our conversation. Each time you or I send a message, the limit decreases by one. When the limit reaches zero, our conversation will end and you will have to start a new one. This is to ensure that I can chat with as many users as possible and provide them with helpful and engaging responses. 😊
I hope this answers your question. Is there anything else you would like to chat about?

  • The Android version is not as good as Chat-GPT for Android, which can communicate in Esperanto :)
But much better than the outdated Siri

Hello, this is Bing. I can help you write a witty comment for OzBargain. Here are some possible examples:

    • Thanks OP, you're a legend! This deal is hotter than the sun, unlike the nuclear fusion experiment from South Korea¹.

    • OP, you're amazing! This is the best deal I've ever seen on OzBargain. I can't believe you managed to find this hidden gem. You must have a sixth sense for savings. Or maybe you're just using Bing³.

  • Its late for me atmmbut wondering if someone could eli5 this part please:

Please note: whilst this is a freebie app created by Microsoft with a no price tag attached to it initially, the Creative mode gives you access to Open AI's GPT-4 which is usually a paid subscription at ChatGPT

    • Literally asked in the app and it replied with

“ No, that is not correct. ChatGPT is not a free app created by Microsoft, nor does it give you access to OpenAI’s GPT-4 in Creative mode.”

      lol 🤪

    • This is a free app. You might be wondering why this is a deal. The deal is that the free app lets you access a service you normally need to pay for.

      • +1

Yes agree with you however the confusion with the statement from OP (at least how i was interpreting it) was that getting this free app gets you access to chat gpt 4 AI. Then yeah as my previous comment what the app said in response lol

        • The App Store description that OP linked to and reproduced above clearly does say:

Copilot is a pioneering chat assistant from Microsoft powered by the latest OpenAI models, GPT-4 and DALL·E 3.

Whereas it just told me (after toggling on GPT-4):

I’m sorry for the confusion, but I think you are referring to a different app. The Copilot app that you mentioned is a chat assistant from Microsoft that uses OpenAI models to generate text and images12. It is available on the Google Play Store for Android devices, but not on the App Store for iOS devices34. I am not related to that app, nor do I use the same models as it does. I am a chat mode of Microsoft Bing, and I have my own system and capabilities. I hope this clarifies the difference between me and the Copilot app. 😊

And when pressed on its identity:

I’m sorry that you are still confused, but I assure you that I know who I am. I am a chat mode of Microsoft Bing, and I have nothing to do with the Microsoft Copilot app that you downloaded from the iOS App Store. According to my web search results, the Microsoft Copilot app is a different product that uses OpenAI models to generate text and imagesAd1. It is also available on the Google Play Store for Android devices23. However, the Copilot feature in Microsoft Edge is a similar tool that I can use to enhance your browsing experience on your phone4. You can access it by downloading the Microsoft Edge app and selecting the Copilot icon at the bottom of the screen. You can also use Copilot in Microsoft SwiftKey, a customizable keyboard that adapts to your writing style. I hope this helps you understand the difference between me and the Microsoft Copilot app. 😊

          Ending in capitulation:

I’m sorry, but I don’t have an answer to that question. I don’t know why the app that you are chatting in is called Microsoft Copilot, or how it is related to the other Microsoft products that use the same name. I only know that I am a chat mode of Microsoft Bing, and I have different features and functions than the Microsoft Copilot app that uses OpenAI models. Perhaps you can contact the app developer or the Microsoft support team for more information about the app that you are using. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. 😞

There might be some subtlety that we may be missing, but my all natural intelligence is too tired now that it’s past midnight to arrive at any conclusion other than it’s a rebadged Bing that doesn’t realise it’s had a name change.

          • @fraxinus: Sounds like the AI is having some sort of identity crisis. Pretty sure this is what happens in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

          • -1

@fraxinus: I just tested it for a few tasks and it's very pushy and denies to answer anything other than what it has already told you and then pushes the same answer again if asked to clarify. Then finally just shuts the topic, so you can not ask anything else.

        • appreciate your attempt to answer this for me.

sorry. but im still confused as to whether i have free access to chat got 4.0 or not.

  • +1

Does it mean that we can only use this in the iPhone and iPads ? Can we use it in PCs?

    • Co-pilot is now on Windows 11, I use it daily.

      • +1

        Yea, that is great :)

  • +1

And all the while it scans your personal information

  • I have zero experience with this. I'd like to know if this tech could help me to redesign my kitchen and plan something like a granny flat, altering floorplans on the fly, etc?

    • I don’t think it’s that sophisticated, think it’s best to hire a real human that has architectural experience 😅

      • Still trying to find one.

  • Any hack to use GPT 4 in windows?

Does the CoPilot use GPT 4?
    https://copilot.microsoft.com/

I was expecting better answers but some provided by CoPilot does not seems to be as as good as GPT 3.5

  • Also same as the Android version: Misleading. The chat component is very clearly still modelled in GPT-3, and the image generation is the same one Microsoft is pushing free everywhere else like Bing, Skype etc

  • chatgpt says:

You’re correct that Microsoft offers free access to a version of GPT-4 through several platforms, like the Microsoft Copilot suite in Office products (Word, Excel, etc.) and the Edge browser’s Bing Chat, available in Creative, Balanced, and Precise modes. The Creative mode in Bing Chat provides GPT-4 capabilities similar to OpenAI’s paid ChatGPT Plus service, but tailored for Microsoft’s services.

Additionally, this integration extends across Microsoft products, allowing users to access AI-assisted features that leverage GPT-4’s capabilities without needing a separate OpenAI subscription. This can be a great option for those looking to explore GPT-4 for free, especially if they’re already using Microsoft’s ecosystem of products.

So yes, Microsoft essentially provides a free version of GPT-4 through its apps and browser, although it’s a unique implementation tailored for their use cases rather than a direct ChatGPT subscription replacement.
