20% off Selected Flights + Flight Component of Holiday Packages @ Bonza

BONZA2024

Noticed a news story about airline boxing day sales, and they included Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia - but left out Bonza!

I've flown 7 Bonza flights this year, and they are a fantastic airline. New, quiet planes with comfortable Recaro seats (tip - if you want 'premium economy' legroom, pay a little extra for a seat in rows 1-4 - or exit rows); 8kg carry on; friendly staff and announcements; food and beverages sourced from Australian small and family businesses - no multinationals.

It is really cool flying in to regional places on a jet service, where they're usually serviced by turboprops.

One of my friends recently had a Bonza holiday and thoroughly enjoyed it - and it was a great saving compared to booking the same flights and 5 star accommodation package elsewhere.

Having a small fleet and limited flights per week to some destinations, they have had some delays and cancellations as they worked through their scheduling and waited for CASA approvals, but this should smooth out with their growing fleet.

I hope they continue to get good support - as we need some competition and fair fare pricing!!

You do have to book directly in their app. You can also book Bonza flights via travel agents.

Here is the info from the email, with travel dates:

If you scored a cheeky Chrissy Card with a couple of notes tucked inside - put it towards your next Aussie adventure!

We’ve got 20% off flights for travel dates including:*

Go to the Fly Bonza app and enter the promo code BONZA2024 when booking. Ripper!

And for anyone else also interested in aviation, a couple of articles about trying to access slot availability at Sydney airport - will be great when they can fly to SYD, too: https://australianaviation.com.au/2023/06/sydney-slots-are-d…

Steer clear from OOL flights. Ongoing CASA certification issues only have granted Flair (read: Flonza) a 90 day pass, and most likely will either see you on a Nauru 737-300 dinosaur or cancelled altogether (most likely).

Gotta start somewhere! Great to have a low cost connection now to SE QLD for those living in northern Tasmania and Mount Isa. The latter is particularly expensive to travel between!

      They're using 737 Max 8's at the moment: https://australianaviation.com.au/2023/12/all-systems-go-for…

Obviously if you're needing more regular options for business travel there are some out of Brisbane, but for leisure and visiting family/friends these are great. I normally fly from MCY, and on one 4-hour delayed flight, we were notified well in advance of the schedule change, so no worries.

Australia: we need more domestic competition.
Also Australia: poo pooing an airline entrant trying something different to bring competition where the big carriers won't go.

      • Who said we are "poo pooing" them? Just stating facts. I want them to work but their Flonza venture is not working.

      • Well Bonza could try actually registering their new planes in Australia and crewing it with Australians….

I've had a good run with Bonza MCY and BDB flights to MEL, being in a regional area I am just grateful for some direct flights

I had a good experience gc to mel return. Plane looked brand new inside.

They don't fly from Sydney why

    • See the linked articles at the end of my post. It will be great when they do get access to SYD at convenient times!

Landing/take-off slots at Sydney are limited due to the night time curfew, so only X number of flights can land/fly a day.

Qantas/Virgin hoard most of the prime-time slots at Sydney Airport blocking smaller airlines like Rex/Bonza from operating viable routes out of Sydney.

Just make sure you have plenty of time put aside for when the flight is cancelled and you have to chase them to get a refund (that's IF they answer your calls!)

    • I'm all for more airline competition but yeah, they've got to actually FLY their passengers to become a viable competitor.

I want to see this airline to work well. It's good for everyone if they do. But when I tried to look at routes, schedule or pricing, I couldn't see anything unless I installed their app. If gave up and haven't tried again.

Yeah this is a weird business/marketing strategy and I think they should advertise prices to get people interested. Currently it’s out of curiosity that gets customers through the door. I feel that they will eventually because they will need to appeal to the mainstream majority who are ignoring them currently, to grow. This closed door (free to open of course, but requires effort to open) strategy is off in my opinion. I have no idea of their pricing, if it’s cheap or not. I’m not going to install yet another app to find out.

I hope they succeed though, the duopoly we have now is not good for us. Having said that I fly Virgin most of the time and Rex when their limited times suit me.

Thanks to the OP for the run down and personal experience with them, makes me more interested.
