Not sure if this belongs here and it may be pretty niche, but I have 2 laptops without internal batteries who support USB-C charging. Can I plug this in to simulate/replicate their batteries?

    • hard to tell. depends on the model and power requirements. I have a Dell latitude that works without internal battery.

      • Ok, mine's a Thinkpad L390 i5 8th Gen.

        • +2

If you unplug the laptop battery and use the wall adaptor only, if it works, it'll work with this battery

      Interesting question.

There should be no issue on the power bank side, but it will depend on if the laptops themselves allow running from USB-C with no battery.

Do they run from a USB-C wall charger with no battery?

Worse case, they should run from the DC input (if they have one) with no battery, so you could use a suitable USB-C to laptop DC input cable. Some laptops baulk at this though, if they limit use from unknown chargers.

      • +2

Thanks for your input. Pun intended.

I can run it from the wall to the DC input with no battery, but don't have anything to test the USB-C port yet.

EDIT: Decided not to take the risk.

    • u should search it up, if the laptop support DP charging then its probably alright

Yeah, I do this with one of these. Just bought my 3rd one, they're really good.

Missed out all the other times it was at the price. Glad I got one now thanks OP

    • If you want it tax deducted as it fits for WFH, check the docs carefully. The seller tends to mix up dates and details.

    • Hahaha, me too,….and again thius time.

Can wait bit longer now I have couple of Power Stations lol.

  • @SmoothCactus approved! Bought one of these last night, thanks.

  • This or this https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08VDJP7WN with half the price?

If for laptop, i can vouch for zmi. My daughter been using it for school and so far its good. Consistent charging output unlike some which reduces when the battery percentage drops

You can also get the INIU 100W direct from INIU for $68, using code iniuthatmark from this older deal.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/809235

The ZMI is a much higher end power bank and has higher end features that are reflected in the price. Whether or not that is worth twice as much depends on your usage.

If you need frequent, heavy use, then the Samsung 21700 cells in the ZMI will last a lot longer overall. It will also sustain higher output for longer, especially when hot. It is physically a bit larger (thinner, but longer) than the INIU.

Quality control is going to be better on the ZMI, but INIU have a 3 year warranty, and seem quite responsive to support issues.

      • Is that $68 price with code delivered ?

        • +1

          Yep, free shipping.

Here's the link to the 100W deal (I accidentally posted the 65W deal above)

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/810108

          Same code, and still works.

          • @Prong: That code does not seem to work for me.

            • @ozhunter68: When you say doesn't work, what happens for you when you enter the code?

I can apply the code in the checkout, and it shows the $11.99 discount and $68 price, but I'm not actually completing the purchase so can't confirm beyond that.

  • Fantastic power bank. Our household has 2. One starts preferring it to a wall charge option in finding. Fast af.

Just adding a bit of information. Anker 737 power bank has 140w output and input. This one has 100W output and input. Sometimes when the ads says 210w, it's actually a combined output instead of the maximum output from one port. The inconsistence in the ads from different manufacturers could cause confusion to some users.

    • +1

Yep, good info - the QB826G is one of the few power banks that will do dual 100W (20V, 5A) output. However it can't sustain that dual 100W for very long without getting too hot and shutting down.

It will sustain 100W for the full capacity.

Dual 100W is suitable for devices that have short bursts at higher power, but probably there are not many use cases relevant to most people.

Also important to note, the 140W from the Anker 737 is at 28V, 5A. So unless your device can use 38V, it will do 20V, 5A so is 100W.

I believe that Anker might have another updated version to 737 powerbank. Anker's price is always too high in my view on Amazon AU considering Anker often sells an outdated model in AU market.

        • +2

There are newer models, which like you say, are hard to buy in Australia.

          The Anker 737 24,000 mAh (PowerCore 24K) discussed above is ‎the A1289.

The new models are called Anker Prime, but there is no 24,000 mAh model.

Anker Prime 27,650 mAh (A1340), does 140W from either USB-C port, and max 250W total.
Dual USB-C appears to be limited to 240W, and based only on specs I had previously pulled from the manual, it is not clear if it can do 28V from both at once. It may be that it does 28V 5A on one, and 20V, 5A on the other, when both are used. Or 28V from both but 120W each.

Anker Prime 20,000 mAh (A1336) does dual 100W, and 200W total.

Anker Prime 12,000 mAh (A1335) does dual 65W, and 130W total.

    • 140w ouput from single port may not be allowed on planes? When i was leaving sydney, security was concerned that this zmi poowerbank was doing 210w output from one port. He mentioned 100w was maximum output allowed from a single port if it was to be carried on planes.

      • +2

I suspect security was mixing up the ratings.Wh vs W.

The rules are no more than 100 Wh capacity without approval.

The Anker 737 is 86.4 Wh capacity.

The ZMI is 90.7 Wh capacity.

So both are fine, without airline approval.

  • If you want a comparison between Anker n this watch below.

    https://youtu.be/sIgp1jMWUwE

BTW the ZMI has 5 x Samsung 50e 21700 batteries pretty good 21700 battery.

  • Is this ZMI better than mine Anker 737 Portable Power Bank 140W 24000mAh? Anker did not charge my Lenovo P1, I bought ZMI to see if this one does.

What is the new version of Anker 737?

  • Looks like no more coupons left

    • FML of course I miss out :( I had this item in my cart all over Xmas and today I don’t check ozb early and this happens..

I have one. It's great, but has 2 negs - selfdischarging over time, like 30% in 5 months; it's getting hot during high load. Not too hot, but inside will be worse, and if put it on a sunny spot, it may not end up well.
