Excess stock from motor car division ?

  • Can anyone who has used this comment on how well it performs?

    • Wanted to know too is it quiet and does it move air good? Not expecting Dyson quality

      • +6

I've used Dysons, and 3 different brands of Dyson clone. All of them are weak and only good at moving air very close to the fan. At high power, they make an annoying higher pitched whooshing noise.

I ditched all of them for air-mover / air-circulator style vans (e.g. Vornado). For similar noise levels they move air over far longer distances, and the DC ones I have are practically silent at low speed, but still powerful enough to be effective- certainly more effective than these Dyson-style fans.

The only thing these bladeless fans have going for them imo is they look kinda fancy. But that's all. They are big, they are noisy at high speeds, they are not very effective.

      Howdy,
Signed up just to post this.

      I got 3 of these at $100 + $20 postage about 4 months ago.

It is super quiet at speeds 1, 2 and 3
It gets noticeable at speeds 4 and 5
Speed 6 has a turbo sound (lol). It is much more noticeable but not "loud" when compared to other bladeless fans.

The lights turn off after about 20 seconds which makes it perfect sleeping near. That said, it does have a beep when you change any setting.

It's best used around 2-4 meters away. I think at about 6 meters it is fairly useless. When compared with the Anko/Kmart bladeless fan, it is miles better. The breeze goes about 3x the distance and speed 1 on the Kmart bladeless is louder than speed 6 on the Hyundai.

      Hope that helps

      • thanks for sharing. could you let me know how is the airflow like? is it good for summer or metal fan is still better?

        • +5

Ok, this is an "it depends" kinda question.

If you want a quiet breeze for sleeping at 1-3m distance. This fan is excellent. It is better than a traditional fan.

If you are purely looking to cool down in the summer, you will be using speeds 5 and 6 (mostly 6). When compared to a traditional fan, the Hyundai is louder at these speed settings for the same amount of airflow. That said, it is a decent amount of airflow at speed 6. I don't really know how to quantify this, but it is sufficient to cool you down.

One thing to note is that this fan does not have air coming out of the top section. Essentially, the breeze covers a height of around 30cm to 1m. If you are standing a lot, your upper body will barely get any airflow. This cannot be adjusted unless you put the fan on something to give it more height. If you are sitting down, it is perfect.

          • @pebbles8: Thank you for the detailed review. I have the small Dyson blade-less fan so hoping this bigger one will work better in my lounge

            • +2

@J B S: We have a relatively small lounge room. It's 3.5m x 4m. So, I can't comment on how well it performs in larger rooms. We put the fan in the corner, and it reaches all parts of the room. It also works well to distribute cold air coming from the split system.

          • @pebbles8: thanks so much for details. i really appreciate it !

    • +2

Yeah, sorry. I really don't know how to compare these well to traditional fans because I've always gone the budget $30 route, which is probably below-average.

Speeds 1 and 2 on the Hyundai are comparable to a light breeze. Think of it as if you were blowing on hot food to cool it down.
Speed 3 is probably equivalent to speed 1 out of 3 on a traditional fan in terms of airflow.
Speed 4 and 5 are probably equivalent to speed 1.5/3 on a traditional fan.
Speed 6 is probably equal to around speed 2-2.5/3.

A traditional fan will push more air on max for the same wattage. The benefit of the bladeless is its small footprint and larger spread (height) of airflow. Someone commented that vornados are better. I would agree. That said, I am more than happy with these Hyundai fans. I think for $80 they are an absolute bargain. I don't wanna mislead anyone as I haven't really had decent standing fans to compare this with. Going by the reasonably good ratings on Kogan and my personal experience, I think most will find the fan "decent enough," especially for the price.

Yeah I know it’s not the vornado but for $80 it may be a good compromise. I know with these fans as long as you don’t sit too far from it should do the job and like you said earlier if it’s a really hot day to combine with air con.

  • Is it single or twin turbo?
Does it come in Hybrid or TDI?

    • the picture is looking different to this model.

I was going to buy this but decided to spend a little more on the maxkon brand seemed to perform better and we don't regret it.

Not sure why the flurry of negs came in, but here I was thinking of informing others of a decent alternative. Crazy crowd here.

      • Maybe because the ebay option costs almost 4x more?

        • I know that I even mentioned that I spent more on it… But if they don't want to that's fine. I just don't get it. But whatever.. anyway the other is a purifier as well you get what you pay for I guess.

          • @maverickjohn: Spend a bit more for some extra functions, exact same logic applies to one of these: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/dyson-purifier-cool-forma…

And no, you don't get what you pay for with these things. The fundamental design as a purifier is crap, because only 6% of the air pushed by the machine goes through the HEPA filter. The other 94% is just recirculated from the room without filtration.

I didn't neg, but I can understand why other people did.

  • Does it use much power?

      • Thanks

  • Activated free trial again and bought it. I wonder how many times Kogan allows to activate this free trial. I have activated it multiple times already 🤔

    • Same, LOL.

    • Same. Do you know if I can cancel the Kogan trial today before the item is sent and dispatched?

      • +2

Not sure. I'll wait for dispatch first.

        • That was my plan too

  • +1

Thanks OP bought one with the spend $50 get $20 deal they emailed me, total $60 delivered. I just gotta remember to cancel the stupid Kogan trial again.

    I found a good review albeit it’s news.com.au:

  • Finally got to use my $50 Kogan credit with this purchase. Good thing I didn't pull the trigger on the $99 Kmart one. Cheers, OP!

  • Got 1 😊

  • Soooo…how is it? Any good? :)

    • It's ok but more of a cool looking tower fan than anything else. I especially like that the lights turn off after a couple of minutes. For the price can't complain.

    • love
      it !!

  • Gone.

  • Cheers OP! 🍺
