Thoughts about Commonwealth Bank Ultimate Awards Credit Card

I'm thinking about ordering Ultimate Awards credit card from Commonwealth Bank. I have an excellent credit score and I spend + $4000 a month. I'm planning to travel abroad twice this year. I'm not PR (have a long-term visa) so I feel like I have limited options. I have a very well-paid casual job at a top university. Would you recommend taking this deal or should I wait until after January when more deals are going to be available?

(EDIT) There is currently an offer for Smart Awards credit card

a very well-paid casual job at a top university

funny how some of them go on strikes for being underpaid

You should go work there, if you feel they are paid so well?

      • most are casuals with no job security

Indeed, there might be more to it than straight up pay.
I’ve had a job paying $70/hr but only a handful of hours a week at times that prevented a full time job as well.
Great for a tertiary student who wants to spend a lot of time on xbox and with few expenses, or maybe when I retire.

    Yeah?

  • I have this card and I like it although I am annoyed that you no longer get access to the 'Yello' rewards if you don't have a CBA transaction account.
Travel Insurance is super easy to activate, I recently did a claim for a flight cancellation and was paid out within the week. That said I'm not fully aware of the changes to the program post Feb

I signed up when it was 100k / 70k QF. I opted to earn CBA points and transfer them to VA as the effective earn rate was higher due to the frequent 20% bonus offers Velocity run.It can be handy to have a reserve of transferable points, I recently sent some to QR during a promo period to then transfer to BA to book some LA flights that were much better value than using QF points.

  • Firstly I suggest you ask CBA if being a casual may make you eligible only for a low-rate card. Secondly, I've earned 0.57 point per dollar so far on Ultimate Awards. My Qantas Amex Ultimate earns 1.2. So if you're wanting to save points for travel it may be worth considering an alternative card.

    • why do you have ultimate awards if you have qantas amex ultimate?

      • For all the merchants that don't accept Amex

        • is that list so long you would rather pay the monthly fee or hit the quota?

have you looked into just getting HSBC 2% cashback?

  • I just got this card in November, almost about to have my second statement cut and I've still yet to receive my bonus 20,000 CommBank awards points from these guys. Other people on here have reported similar issues as well with CommBank Awards.

Customer service rep just keeps falling back on their 90 day time limit. Other cards always have this period as their T&C's too but this is the first CC I've ever had where the bonus points aren't credited at the end of the statement cycle.

  • Just saw the Ultimate Awards is now fee free for Mortgage holders…BUT…it doesn't have any sign up bonus points.

The Smart Awards card is not eligible for a mortgage fee waiver, has a measley 80k Com points (2:1 to 4:1 transfer rates) for a 4 x $1500 spend (and a $19 monthly fee unless you spend $2000 per month)… Basically RUBBISH for a $6k spend.

Ultimate Awards sign on bonus came out in March 2023. Hoping the same happens this year. If no one takes up their current dud card offers, credit card arm will need to release some decent offers.

    HOLD…..
