2 for the price of one! Thanks OP, just bought a couple!

  • +2

Good price but already have too many indoor cams..anyone concern about privacy having these in your living areas?

    • Was just thinking of this, best option seems to be to turn them off when at home? Unless there's a schedule setting like their Smart Globes?

      • +1

You can turn on privacy mode in the app, this will stop streaming.

        • Wish they do have geofencing like Arlo so you don't have to turn on / off everytime you leave/arrive

        • Can privacy mode be automated I.e., turn on and off based on certain time or day rather than doing it many every time you are in house or going out??

          • @Sid04: Yeah it can but I don’t leave/arrive at the same time everyday

      • I use Home Assistant and was planning to plug them in via smart plugs so I can use HA geofencing to turn off when I'm at home… It does kind of weird me out.

    • +5

You can use the C210 for outdoor cams. I have installed under eaves and have so far been working fine.

    • +3

I think that’s counterintuitive for a surveillance camera.

    • +21
      1. Put them in a seperate VLAN
      2. Setup firewall rule to drop all outgoing traffic
      3. Turn on RSTP - guide here
      4. Connect to whatever NVR solution you may have, e.g. Blue Iris, Synology Surveillance Station etc

When you are outside, VPN back to your local network using whatever OpenVPN, WireGuard, Tailscale, Cloudflare Tunnel and watch from there.

      You are now safe.

      • +1

What is this for? Are people worried about TP-Link watching them do the deed?

      • +2

been using this method for my security cameras setup at home for last 6 years using Synology Surveillance Station
it works great and also compatible with any IP cam brands as long as it can expose RSTP feed

I also purchased additional IP camera licenses for Surveillance station, they are once-off payment license and are transferable to new Synology NAS too

      • How do you put these wifi devices on separate vlan in home environment? Does router need to support this feature?

        • I guess it's not possible for those ISP provided modem/routers, they don't generally support VLAN segmentation.

Generally speaking you can follow this procedure:
          - setup a camera vlan on firewall
          - setup vlan on switch connecting to the firewall
          - connect the vlan-tagged port to Unifi AP
          - setup a dedicated camera SSID on this vlan (guide here)
          - connect all cameras to this camera SSID

I have all my internal cameras plugged into smart plugs. Then I have an automation in Google home that turns them on after we go to bed or if both me and my wife have left the house. Then it turns them off in the morning or while either of us are at home. Works really well.

      • assume turning on at night is time based?

      • Are the smart plugs also made by TP-Link

    • "anyone concern about privacy having these in your living areas?"

well seeing it's a Chinese based company, like Eufy, in a word - yes.

  • +2

Terrific price! Wish I have more rooms!

    • +14

Look for a deal on a mansion.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Price matched with Jbhifi.

    • Did you do it via the chat? Livechat would not price match

      • Yes did it via chat. Might be depends on person ? I got it matched without any problem.

        • I also failed via chat! They offered $49 each as best offer…

          • +2

@jamhos: I can provide screenshot maybe that will help ?

            • @Yogi555: I will try again with someone else, thanks :)

            • +1

@Yogi555: Thanks for the offer, I have a local HN and have already ordered from them - I just prefer JB where possible.

    • Did you try to match the two pack or single ?

      • +5

Just send them the HN link, they will create a link to buy 2 single ones for $29 each

    • Managed to price match in store at JB with no issues

  • Thanks OP, got 2

    • +6

      Evidently.

  • Good price, must buy

  • I've got home assistant but haven't done much with Frigate and don't quite understand it, but out of curiosity would you be able to set something like this up with Frigate and have it be 100% local so there's no cloud based streaming happening, or is that not how Frigate works?

    • +2

Yep absolutely - they have RTSP streams so this is the exact setup I'm planning on using them for (I already have a Eufy cam setup the same way).

      • Is there some sort of instructional explanation anywhere? Would love a set up like this. Can you still access this stream over the internet remotely?

        • +1

There's ~reasonable documentation here: https://docs.frigate.video/, and there are a few ways to access via the internet but I guess there's different security elements to consider. A VPN (to home) might be the safest bet, or there's some documentation in the link around reverse proxies - but it's not something I'm familiar with enough to give advice on (still learning!).

      • Sweet, thanks so much! I've got a Eufy too but haven't set it up yet, and my machine isn't powerful enough for frigate without a coral I'm pretty sure, so haven't looked in to it, but this might be the push to check it out!

    • +1

      Yes, these do RTSP streams,

There's also a plugin so you can control them

      • Amazing, thanks so much!

  • +6

Would have bought this but have 10 x $2 bunnings monkey cameras already

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/46868/109426/screensho…

And bought 2 of the $10 amazon cameras

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/46868/109427/screensho…

And the $99 kmart battery free Tplink battery kit

    • This is the way.

I would have bought this Tapo deal but power adapter ending and not USB so no deal for me.

      • Agree, the monkey cameras are good because you can run 2 using a 20k powerbank with usbc cable and will power them for a long time. SD card for local storage. Also mounting them with gorilla tape because they are very light

        • Giving me some ideas there, I do need something with RTSP though when I eventually get around to setting up an NVR. Hence why my cameras thus far are all IMOU branded

    • I can't seem to find these cameras on the Bunnings site

  • +1

Great price. Thanks for posting OP!

  • +2

Any recommendations/ deals on outdoor cams?

    • +1

Still waiting for a similar deal to the Kmart Tapo C400S2's deal, regret putting my trust in their C&C service back then.

      • They are nice cameras.
I did c&c from several stores just incase, and only fulfilled by one store.

  • +1

    crystal-clear 3MP definition

I am not an expert in video cameras, but 3 mp seems quite low

    • +1

      It’s 1536p, so better resolution than 1080p.

    • It's the sweet spot for storage size vs legibility.
Billboard images are usually 2MP because the bigger the thing is that you're looking at, the further back you have to stand to get it into view.

    • Agreed. I wouldn't call 3MP "crystal clear" as I have trouble identifying the colour of tag on the chickens leg through the camera (we use one in the chicken coop) but I will say there is a noticeable difference between the c200 (1080p) and c210 (3MP). So I'd definitely recommend the 210 over the 200, but wont go as far as saying it's great quality.

May work for basic facial recognition in a breakin but I'd be want higher quality cameras to assist these just in case.

Stock looks to be "in stock soon"
Has anyone ordered with this and HN to keep the price?

or am i jumping on with JB now and trying to get them to price match

    • My local originally said "in stock soon" but now they're showing in stock - I had no issues ordering at this price for Click & Collect regardless.

  • +6

Thanks for the acknowledgment OP! Can claim this as my first deal! 😁

    JB HIFI
Derick K - price matched on chat! EPIC

    • +1

haha he did the price match for me as well!

    • Classic Derick K move, what a champ

      • +1

        You got him too?

  • +2

Thank OP. Ordered them frim JB HIFI for $43.2 with $10 birthday voucher and 10% off gift cards.
Ready for collection in just 3 min after placing order.

    • Who did 10% GC?

      • I had it from Superswap cards through Shopback some time ago.

        • Ah okay, thanks! Will see what I can find before paying

Can see stock in almost all stores in Melbourne.

      • +1

        Same or in stock soon

        • +1

Thank you two, tried again, and it got through.

  • Placed online order.
Almost instantly, had a call from local store, that they are out of stock, do I want to cancel the order…..
    I said, "it's ok, I'll wait"
"It's going to be at least 3 or 4 week, are you sure you don't want to cancel"

    Rather bizarre interaction with HN

    • Cancel and order with Jbhifi price match. Collected order within 10 mins.

  • +1

Ordered but has turned into a backorder.

  • OOS….

  • +1

Tried to price match online with JB but told they have no more stock anywhere!

  • +1

Ordered but a bit of a wait

  • +1

I was able to price match with JB, the support person told me his boss said no more price matches for them because HN are now out of stock.

    • +3

Never price match at JB in store again as their policy is based on their say even though the website shows has stock.

Last time and my first time price matching the Sono speakers in store, got approved by one staff, got rejected by another staff/the boss in the middle of paying. The worse was the staff became rude suddenly. Night mare experience never. Avoid!

Back home and googled the reviews of the store. That's expected.

  • +1

Thanks. It was showing oos but it became available.

  • +1

Mine is ready to be picked up at my local HN, about 20 minutes after I placed the order.

  • Still able to checkout

  • +1

Thanks, got in on the restock! 👍

  • Looks like it's back in stock.
I was able to place an order.

  • You can still make purchases from HN.

  • +1

    What an amazing price!
I just recently ordered some more Eufy cams, never tried this one
At this price, it's a no-brainer, will get 2-4 of these
Is this cloud storage (paid subscription)? The good thing about Eufy is the free homebase storage ..

    • Yes, this deal is pretty good bang for buck.

In response to your question, you do not need to pay for the cloud storage. As long as you have a microSD card in it, you can access the live/recordings via the Tapo app.

As mentioned by some of the other folks above, you may also consider configuring RTSP stream.

I've been using a few C200 (older model) for about 3yrs, which have worked nicely. In the last couple of months, I've added a C210 (mentioned in this deal) and a C110 (similar sensor as C210, but no pan-tilt. Each of these devices has a 64GB microSD card and configured to only record when there is "normal sensitivity" activity/motion. With the loop recording settings, it allows about 1-2 months coverage in a moderate activity room (e.g. study, bedroom, living room).

      • Many thanks for your help :)
Time to become a Tapo app user; so far it was only Eufy!

        • +1

          You're welcome :)

As much as I like the Eufy offering, it is a bit out of my budget for now.

Hope you find the Tapo products suitable for your use cases.

    • +1

      Sounds like a you problem?

  • Is this the one that does not use USB cable?
