ShoppingExpress gets automatic + from me

    • thanks~~:)

Any chance of adding the sandisk 120gb?

    • Hi sickleb2002,

Sandisk under consideration but not yet ready to be included.

  • +1

Huh, was about to go and pick up one of the SanDisk's from Scorp tomorrow but reconsidering now. Is the Samsung actually $25 better or are they all-in-all the same? I guess I'm more concerned with reliability, the performance from either should be more than enough.

    • Samsung SSDs are considered very reliable. SanDisks use Sandforce controllers which have had issues in the past.

Also Sandforce controllers do well on small, compressible file streams. If you work a lot with photos and videos, maybe go for the Samsung.

  • in the title it says the kingston is 149 but on ur site its 155

    • What he said.

    • Sorry, made a typos. fixed title - the price should be $155.

      • lol i was hoping the 155 would be the typo;)

  • Any reason to get the samsung over the kingston?

    • Samsung use their own controller while kingston use the notorious Sandforce controller which are more prone to BSOD. Anywho vote with your wallet.

  • I'm planning on upgrade my laptop with SSD, is there an easy way to transfer the whole operating system including all applications from the old HDD to a new SSD? I'm using Win 7. Thanks.

    • +1

Use some image backup software - I use storage craft shadow protect (storagecraft.com). I've heard that image restores don't work on SSD's but this sounds odd.

    • Samsung SSDs come with a licensed copy of Norton Ghost. You can use that to clone your old HDD onto the new SSD. Very easy to do.

      • +1

Not all Samsung SSDs come with Norton Ghost.

    • +2

try win 7 backup thats built into the OS, i use it all the time and it works perfect, i dont see why an ssd drive wouldn't work as long as its recognised it should be fine

      • Yeah I just used the built in windows "complete backup" or whatever (the disk image backup) to go from HDD to SSD. Worked fine.

I heard there might be some unnoticeable performance differences over installing fresh, not worth the inconvenience in my case.

      • Just make sure your original disk is smaller or same size as the new disk the image is going to, otherwise it will fail.
IE - backing up a 500 gig disk will not restore on to a 240 gig disk.

        • Really!? I can't wait for 1TB SSD deals or bigger to replace my 1TB HDD.

    • EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition is good for copying current OS
although I prefer to do a fresh install..just be sure you have ALL the drivers handy in case win 7 miss's any

  • Pretty good price. Still wait until 830 512GB is under $400 though.

    • +1

Think they might discontinue 830 after 840 is pushed out soon, so might not be possible for this generation.

  • +1

Anyone dealt with these guys on warranty and customer support? Just wan't to look into this before buying

  • Is the Kingston any worse than the Samsung? If so, why is the Samsung better?

    • +1

See ChickenAdobo's comment earlier - Kingstons use Sandforce which have had issues in the past.

    • Samsung basically manufactures all components of their product, including flash memory, ram and especially the controller which is proved to be not only fast but also very reliable.

    • The Samsung 830 is considered a better quality drive, worth the extra money imo

  • +2

Good prices, good site (delivered my laptop within 48 hours).

Prices have come down, though: almost bought a Samsung 64GB, but even with the discount code applied, delivery meant pickup from ARC was actually still a dollar or so cheaper so check other prices before you pull the trigger.

    • +2

yep just checked ARC and they are a couple dollars cheaper to pickup! Good spot

    • Don't forget to add the surcharge to ARC prices

*3.2% surcharge on Amex and Diners, *3% surcharge on Paypal, *1% on VISA and MasterCard, flexirent conditions apply

      • Yeah, don't buy online from ARC, it's cash and pickup that make it worthwhile, so only if you're in Sydney (other states have their own equivalents though).

    • +1

Is the time & petrol spent picking it up worth the $1 cheaper at ARC? Unless you live/work near it, your probably better off paying an extra $1 and have it shipped to you.

    • +1

ARC are showing "Call" against the Samsung 64GB.

Shipping kills it. Till end of Sept. the Sandisk 128GB Extreme were offered at 88$ with free shipping. I am sure OZ Bargainers will take up huge quantity (at least 400~500nos) if good deals are offered for :

    Samsung 830 128GB —- 89~92$ shipped
    Intel 330 120GB —- 90$ shipped.

    • +3

agreed. looked good until i added $10-15 for shipping. will wait until drops

      • Yep, I've already waited this long a little more won't hurt.
        prays C drive doesn't die

    • Yeah. Waiting for the Sandisk Extreme 128GB for $88 with free shipping again

  • +2

Actually even the list price of 98$ for the Samsung 830 128GB would be awesome if free shipping is provided :)…otherwise again people can buy from Centrecom/MSY etc.

  • +1

best i found the Intel SSD 120GB 330 Series (SSDSC2CT120A3K5) is $89 but out of stock from online computers, i agree with renegade, if it could be done for around the $90 shipped i would jump on it.
And thank you for the HP server i got yesterday shoppingexpress, it came within a few days of placing the order :)

  • Seems like a good deal, been looking at the Samsung 830 256GB, even after shipping this should come out better than the $209 at MSY, and I dont have to waste time/petrol going to get it.

    • … or hurting your brain trying to use their website. MSY loses my business for their website alone.

  • +5

I ordered two SSD's from the last shoppingexpress sale over a month ago. Only the first one arrived yesterday (Kingston 240GB), still waiting for the second one (OCZ). The shipping label says it was shipped not too far from my office. To be honest I dont think these guys hold stock at all, otherwise it wouldnt have taken so long and it wouldnt be arriving in two seperate mail packages.

    • +11

I was going to order one but read this then don't want to buy anymore

      • +2

for anyone else put off by this, read comments below, flipfire mistook shopping express for shoppingsquare

    • +1

Hmm, shopping express is/was famous for good service. I ordered an ssd from them last time too, a sandisk 240 and it came in 2 days. I ordered at night, so order received next day and basically shipped to me in 1 day.

    • +6

        Hi

I just had a closer look at the receipt and realized it was SHOPPING SQUARE not SHOPPING EXRESS i ordered from. I sincerely apologize! They both had SSD sales the same time last month and i got confused.

Ive reported my comment for deletion.

superuser: You can order from these guys, its shopping square you might want to avoid.

        • +2

LOL knew it was shoppingsquare! them scoundrels

        • +1

          SHOPPING SQUARE not SHOPPING EXRESS

Lol, you've just lost shoppingexpress a fair few customers judging by the +ve votes on your comment.

      • +1

You guys really need to change your name or buy an alternative domain

      • Open a new store called ShoppingSquaxpress, that would confuse the hell out of everyone.

  • -8

No, no, no, ShoppingExpress, these SSD sales are all too common. You need to get in some SYNOLOGY NAS units and have a sale; especially the DS213+ model. P l e a s e, pretty please :o)

    • +4

Why would you want to buy that overpriced garbage? Microserver is cheaper, faster, and actually expandable.

      • +1

Because I don't need extra grunt, speed, expansion, or a bigger uglier server box :) The NAS is primarily for file backup, some music streaming and ocassional movie streaming. Sure a cheaper lesser spec NAS would suffice but a DS213+ still leaves me some power, if needed.

    • +4

No, no, no, ShoppingExpress, these SSD sales are all too common.

I'm sorry, since when did ShoppingExpress start catering to your whims? The SSD sales are 'common' because they're popular with the majority of the tech-oriented OzBargain crowd. There just isn't much demand for NAS's so no, they don't 'need' to do anything; especially not because you asked for it.

      • -1

Really? You surely fail to see the irony of your own posting. SSDs are popular because we "want" them, we don't "need" them. I don't "need" a NAS", you don't "need" a SSD but me and 10s of thousands of others will get swept up in the hype and technology progress that we "want" one.

If not we'd all be sitting in front of a of a CP/M system or a TRS80 with 4Kb of RAM and a cassette drive for storage. You old enough to remember them :)

        • +1

          You don't seem to understand…
I'm saying that ShoppingExpress don't need to have a sale on anything, just because you want it - especially not from the way you demand it.

SSD's are popular, NAS's… not so much. Hence, ShoppingExpress is going to have sales on SSD's, because they sell - which is all they're interested in.

        • Look up top at the second comment. Someone's asking for a "non sale" item and ShoppingExpress is considering it.

I did not demand anything from ShoppingExpress, I asked which I tried to convey by use of a smiley at the end of the sentence. Perhaps earlier useage of "please" may have come across kinder and this stopped this banter?

          Either way, I'd still like a bargain price for a DS213+ :)

        • +3

No, no, no, ShoppingExpress, these SSD sales are all too common…

I think the negs were for this. It's like saying there's so many ssd sales, that we don't want them anymore.

        • +1

Someone's asking for a "non sale" item and ShoppingExpress is considering it.

Yeah, but that's actually an SSD… doesn't exactly compare to your wanting an NAS.
Besides, it wasn't so much your asking for it… it was the fact that you showed absolutely no interest in this deal, and you were telling them that they need to have a sale on something else, and that there have been too many SSD deals, as if your opinion were representative of everyone's.

Anyway, this has probably gotten far enough off-topic.

        • +3

Smiley or not, you still sound like a pretty demanding ass. You do no represent the general population. There are lots of us out there who are still shopping for SSDs. Just because there are lots of existing deals, why should S.Express not post their own good deal on SSDs because you (singular) are sick of seeing them? You want a good price on a NAS? Ask for a separate deal. You need to learn some tact.

  • Kingston 120GB says $104 on the site. Forgot about the code. Disregard :D

  • Already cheap, but will wait until it drops to between 0.50-60c/gb for the good quality units. Hopefully before Christmas.

I'd get an SSD as boot/system drive & keep the rest has HDDs for storage in my setup, until SSDs are as cheap has HDDs someday (and some new storage tech will be out by then).

    • +1

if you keep waiting you will never buy anything. buy based on ur needs/wants. or you may end up saying it will be cheaper tomorrow…. so ill wait.

    • With tech, rule of thumb is "if you don't need it right now, wait - it'll get cheaper".

      • It'll always get cheaper, you just need to take into consideration whether it's worth savings X amount of $$ to wait a few months, and as someone else said whether you really need it.

I got a LiteOn 256GB SSD for $170ish delivered a few months ago, and have no regrets.

  • Received my Samsung this morning, ordered yesterday. Can't complain about the speed.

There are two boxed versions of the 830 series…..one includes a power adapter cable and a 3.5" mount adapter, and the other is just the drive and CD. I received the latter.

    • one includes a power adapter cable and a 3.5" mount adapter

those cost more and aren't in this sale.

  • Any good to add SSD to a netbook with Atom D2600 processor? Will it help to speed things up? Thanks

  • Will this 830 good for MBP?
    Cheers

  • A few (or all) of the prices have been increased slightly. needs to be edited
