Not a bad price for Seagate Portable 5TB External Hard Drive HDD. It has been cheaper but not recently. I picked one up to back up some photos.

Supply issues and runawsy inflation mean a lot of things are not getting cheaper anymore. World events are going to make this worse before it gets better and if China becomes economically independent of the west which it is aiming to do we will not enjoy cheap products any more, everything will be way more expensive because the west has given up almost all domestic manufacturing and will have to start from scratch, without being able to source cheap start up components either.
Are these shuck-able?
I believe so (I've shucked 2 & 3TB drives which had SATA connectors) but they're thicker than the usual 2.5" drives
I don't know about this specific drive, but there are 2.5" drives that have the USB connector on the drive itself instead of a SATA connector.
So beware 👍Appears they are shuck-able
Full tear down of the drive, showing the removal of the tape, usb board etc
different drive, however i think all seagate 2.5 exterior drives are shuckable (STHP5000400 vs STGX5000400)
Beware that some of cheap HDDs these Seagate external drives contain are total garbage. I've got one on my desk dead and one on the way out, becoming increasingly slow to R/W which is saying something considering how slow they are new. Each probably 18 months old with few hundred hours idling according to Seagate software.
If you value the data and or transfer speed, choose another form of storage.
$145 for those that are interested, which is slightly less than I paid for a 5TB portable drive 3 years ago.
Should be ~$110 by now.
