    The ozbargain knife of choice.

  • Is it possible to sharpen these or they go into the bin once they're blunt?

    • +6

Sharpening a serated knife while possible is annoying and mostly these will be binned when dull.

      • Thanks ill look it up but prob stick to regular. I've been working on my sharpening technique.

      • +10

I wouldn't bin them. Just keep them as 'butter knives' and buy new ones in a different colour so you know they're the sharp ones. Rinse and repeat.

        • +9

In saying that, good luck getting one of these blunt if its used for what its advertised. Absolute workhorse of a knife and still going strong over 6 years later.

    • +4

I just run the flat side of the knife back and forth across a diamond steel to sharpen them up…

    • +12

Just an fyi, most of mine of are over 10years old and still as sharp as the day they were bought. And I assure you, I don’t treat them well. These are rock solid.

      • +1

Was a about to say the same thing. I've never sharpened mine and still good.

      • +1

I use them on enameled plates a lot and the edge tends to burr over towards the flat side over time, to be expected with this kind of abuse.. Laying the flat edged on a steel and running it back and forth a few times removes the burrs and brings them back to life…

    • +1

Yes, on the edge of an oval honing steel works well, kept many going for years using this method

  • Orange also same price

    • +3

Can the orange knife still be used to cut steak and tomato? Or citrus only?

      • +6

great for tomatoes as serrated, steak tend to tear the meat a bit and too much juice runs out of the meat ….serrated knife for steak is more convenience than juice retention. restaurants love serrated steak knives as nothing to sharpen and they always cut and people are more concerned about the size of the steak than if juice is on the place or in the meat.

        • whoosh

          • +2

@Kazzilla: Yes whoosh, but post was actually quite educational. I learned things today. Cheers GS!

  • +2

Still a mandatory kitchen knife IMHO…..please don't start with the "I cut myself" crap.

    • +3

      R I P F I N G E R S

    • Instructions clear/unclear, I cut myself!
In all seriousness, this is a useful knife, I use it to cut fruit in hand.

    • Look I always thought it was bs until I bought one. I just slightly touched the blame and cut me, really nearly did not have contact with blade

    • My son did something he was told not to do.
He was using one to seperate 2 frozen slices of bread. Cut his thumb down to the bone.
      Good knives.

  • +6

Possibly the only all purpose knife you need in your kitchen

  • Excellent knife, got one in my draw at desk, in case we need to cut a cake.

  • The perfect knife. The only other knife I use is a bread knife.

  • +2

I bought two a couple of years ago from an ozbargain post.

Not sure what I was thinking, the plastic looked a bit cheap and I may have had a couple of glasses of red that night, but despite cleaning them in the dishwasher and using them most days since they're still going strong and I'm totally sold on them now.

  • +3

This is my knife of choice, cuts through anything

    • +7

Can confirm, went through my thumb like butter.

      • Is this in jest (which I think it is…) or are these seriously that dangerous?

        • +1

Any sharp knife is… sharp. Seriously, I've gone through half a packet of band aids and more than a couple of layers of finger tip skin with these.

My observation is that you won't even know what you've cut until after you've cut it and the blood starts seeping out.

If a knife can go through chicken breast, it can go through human fingers just as easily.

    • +1

It really does.. Just accidentally picking it up slightly from the blade from the dishwasher, very hurty!!!

      • Erm, I'm not aware of the back history, but I'm assuming this post (and similar) are in jest? i.e. you won't hurt yourself with these knives without trying to.

Considering getting one but these posts (which I think are in jest?) definitely make me reconsider. I certainly dont want ones that are going to cause accidental cuts as easily as made out in these posts.

        • +2

My very minor injury was from my own stupidity. These knives are incredibly sharp - if you're clumsy or easily forget how to handle them, I wouldn't recommend them. I don't think a lot of people are joking.

        • +1

Dude, what do you think is going to happen when a knife more than capable of slicing through meat comes in contact with a finger holding down a cucumber?

  • Thanks !

  • +4

Need a banger like this to come back - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/687716

  • Sold out all colours at that price

  • Are their bread knives any good for home made bread?

    • Yes and meat.. Incredible

    • The pastry knife is one of the best carving and bread knives ever made

  • +1

Bought the pink 2 years ago for $6 and is probably my most favoured to use for small veggies and fruit. Picked up the green and orange to add to the drawer, can't have enough of these!

  • I love this knife, used for almost everything and does so well than regular knife. Bought another 1!

  • -4

These are fine if you have literally no sharp knifes in your house and your budget is $10. They seem a little overrated on this forum though. You’re not going to cut yourself just by touching it.

  • +2

So, a counter argument. There a are very few serrated knives that are cut with a central cutting edge. That means that these knives are more prone to following the angle of the cut, and are generally designed for right handers.

This means that whatever you cut won't go straight like a traditional knife.

Try cutting cheese with this, and you'll end up with wedges.

    • +4

Try cutting cheese with this, and you'll end up with wedges.

Skill issue, just gotta hold the knife against the small force from the one-sided sharpening.

These are my go-to lunch knives (including cheese)

    • Excellent point!

      (removes from cart…)

  • Any deals for forks?

  • +2

These are amazingly sharp. Use them to effortlessly cut tough meat and tomatoes. I've also knicked my fingers a few times from using and washing. Must be careful!

  • +6

HODL!! Price history shows these drop to $7 before dropping to $6 over new years and have done so for the last 3 years straight.

  • Scotty should manufacture these in OzB orange and call OzBargain Classic Wavy knife. These knives have been posted for so long it’s got the classic part right. And throw in some bandaids cause let’s admit it, some of us will need it.

  • Have these in green. One benefit I never considered is in a knife drawer full of knives they're easy to locate!

  • My ceramic knife has found the bin!

  • +3

You can have all the fancy knives you want and I will still reach for this time and time again because it cuts through everything with ease. A real workhorse in my household.

  • Very good for cutting tomatoes and garlics, thanks OP!
