@DoctorCalculon: Correction: Coles promotes healthier kids, Woolies supplies sucrose, Coles Eye medicine…
~10c + in-store pick up! Cheapest deal post ever?
Maybe it's more about Santa thing. Still, Coles is clever at taking an advantage of this almost free marketing.
Got one (1) carrot from Coles tonight.
Signage said, "One free Rudolph carrot per child".
Also picked up an apple from the "Free Fruits for Kids" basket.
Unfortunately, it was the "bottom of the barrel" type of apple (leftovers).won't somebody think of the children!
I missed out on the one potato deal, damn.
Just wait for bloody DoorDash or Uber to run a freebie promo……
Take a reindeer instead.
Yummy
My car is a reindeer which runs on carrots so this deal is perfection
Carrots are the perfect biofuel
Unlimited reindeer powah!
I don't pay for fuel.
You and your Tesla!!!
Nah I have this card that lets me pump fuel for free.
It’s fuel, however you see it. including your body using fuel.
Plenty of body fat reserves to burn
Not everyone uses a vehicle. Free to walk or cycle.
Read my comment again
I'm fat. Burning my body fuel is a huge bonus so this carrot is better than free.
@Loopholio: I guess being able to comprehend is more difficult than I thought
if not living close to a store.
Means you live far enough to not be able to walk to a store and not everyone owns/can ride a bicycle either. Also lets be real, how many would actually walk to a coles store for a free carrot.
@Pricebeat: I wouldn't bother picking up the carrot even if I went into the store, but if I wanted a carrot I would walk the 2k there and back. I go shopping five days a week anyway.

Supermarket operator Coles has recorded a surge in revenue from its groceries business, even as steep living costs prompt households to alter shopping habits and store theft escalates.
Australia’s second biggest supermarket chain posted a 4.8% rise in full-year annual profit to $1.1bn, supported by its strong food business which more than offset subdued liquor sales.
Percentages are often used in a way to disguise the truth. Media in particular use percentages to create drama. My statistics background trained me to query '4.8% increase from what'. Coles had a turnover of 41.47b in 2023.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1050187/australia-group-…
If you get out your abacus, 1.1 from 41.47 gives a profit margin of around 2.65% on investment. Some banks are paying better rates of interest.
Totally agree!
the inflation rate is around 8%, when Coles or any other business scored a 4.8% profit increase, it means they had a decreased profit to the previous years if they had 8% turnover increase. It's all relative!
The profit of $1.1bn sounds huge but the annual profit margin of around 2.65% on investment is NOT a good investment.
For people don't understand this, you never had or will have a business, that's a small mum & dad business.
We should keep our eyes on those huge business that don't pay or pay little tax, who are they??
Also, which departments or organisations wasting billions of our, tax payer money? No.1 ADF, who else?!You mean the Gov doesn't understand the business since they want to question Colesworths?
Would those banks pay 2.65% or higher on a $41.47 billion dollar saving account though? I feel like many would refuse to even accept the amount
The short term money market generally pays well and only takes (what is to most of us) eye-watering amounts of cash. If you highlight Australia on this page https://data.oecd.org/interest/short-term-interest-rates.htm, you'll see the rate is around 4.3% ATM So, yes, 2.65% is a reasonable margin.
I suspect banks would see an opportunity to pay 2.65% for cash to loan to home borrowers around 6% as a great opportunity to turn a profit using other people's money. Whether they would do it or not is another matter. They'd need to reduce their lending rate a little to get rid of the sudden cash influx. With the current shortage of housing significantly driving prices up, available borrowers are more likely to be high risk.
Let's not cry over Coles…
According to your statistica link…
Coles Group supermarkets recognized a total sales revenue of 41.47 billion Australian dollars during the 2023 financial year. This represented a slight increase from the 2022 financial year. In general, the company’s revenue has remained largely around this level since 2014.
They've steadily grown their profits 4.8% despite their revenues being largely similar to previous years. The media does have a habit of creating drama, but in this case a $1.1Billion dollar profit while many Australians are struggling is worth deeper scrutiny.
lol, i saw a guy get a free everything the other day, just slowly walking past all the fruit and veg isle, staff didn't care, security had no idea
This and last year ive first hand witnessed alot of stealing from supermarkets, getting worse imo
It's getting noticeably worse, I see so many bags from the Scoop & Weigh that are empty and discarded in random places. Another big one is small drinks like juices and iced coffees
I hear they're planning to get rid of self service checkouts at Walmart in America because it makes it too easy for people to shoplift and doesn't offset the cost of having staff there as a deterrent
The cost of living crunch doesn't help the situation. I feel like self-service checkouts were a bit of bold strategy, one that seemingly hasn't paid out for Colesworth and other large retailers.
Everyone knows if you finish any product in-store, it's free.
TᕼIS IS ᗩ ᒍOKE, I ᗩᗰ ᒍOKIᑎG.
what if I finish a pack of condoms in store..
@WT: I would like to subscribe to your onlyfans.
Thanks, lunch sorted
Good guy Coles, makes up for all the price gouging.
Lol
Eventual royal commission into the grocery duopoly
Commision: So, what's up with a 4.8% increase with net profit?
Coles: Inflation
Commision: Rigghhhttt…so you're not price gouging and ripping off consumers?
Coles: Free carrot
Commision: The findings were in support of the Coles group and the unequivocal costs associated with inflation and the large business expenses.
Sad but true
I love chasing a carrot on a stick
Only 1 piece ??
Are they Rudolph approved?
+1 for the Dad joke
Free is Free!
Karen's negging me
Is this some sort of sick joke?
No, carrots are healthy. Won’t make you sick.
Except the green ones
then its not a carrot yet
But that's not a carrot? Nor would the reindeer approve.
the great aussie carrot surplus of '23
what did one snowman say to the other Snowman?
does it smell like carrots to you…
Thanks, I got 10.
Officeworks price beat?
Do you just grab and walk away or someone scans it for you?
As per the ad, the free carrot is for Rudolph ONLY
I ended up eating mine last year and woke to Santa kicking down my door duel wielding AK-47s
That happened to me a few years ago too. Those AKs are loaded, Santa doesn't procreate around!
Has the camera AI been updated to let you through the auto locking gate of shame with one extra carrot ?
No silly, you're supposed to eat it before checking out….
I just walked out with a trolley for of groceries. Said it was for my reindeer.
Thanks got 15
Local is outside store, its just 8 10kg? boxes
I assume cost them like $10 a store with the prices they pay.
I assume cost them like $10 a store with the prices they pay.
Exactly! People's standard of a "deal" is really low these days. Countless actual deals have barely any votes. No wonder it's all leading to reposts only.
Feed your family for under $10 X 10 with our free dangle the carrot promotion now available at Coles.
Are you taking from the kids’ free fruit basket again?
Nyehhh, what's up doc
How do you get it past security?
Ozbargained?
Shame their so inedible unless cooked , I buy baby carrots to munch on and even then you can tell they are cheapest carrots they can get from vege auctions .
have these people no shame
Yes 2000 clicks already of shame, how could so many people be at coles
Thanks, put my avocados through as Rudolph's carrots 👍
I prefer the Woolies 1kg bag for $1.50 but no stock at my local this year 😒
CARROTS
My local Coles had carrots in the "Free fruit for kids" stand. They looked about 2 weeks old. Not sure the reindeer would want them.
Can I swap mine for a potato?
Great last minute gift idea.
Only old carrots for reindeers
My reindeer prefers younger carrots
At Coles:

This is what you give reindeer if you want coal for Christmas.
Well that's my weekend set!
What's the reasoning? Do parents take kids to get a carrot and then… what?
Great!
All I need now is a box to put the carrot.
Hours of fun :/
So nice of Coles to offer a free carrot while making superprofits
So generous.
The free carrots are old and soft and would have been thrown out.
Some reindeers🦌wouldn't eat them
Can see a common theme. Coles seems to push that "Everyone is welcome at their table, no matter how they identify". Now all of a sudden offering objects like free carrots.
For the record, reindeer don't eat carrots.
