Historically good price for this router, and it's not UK stock. Unfortunately it's also end-of-life.

This resolved all our home internet issues. Six people and 20-plus devices on a 100mb nbn connection and our tenda mesh wifi failed constantly.
We put this router in with the tenda mesh in bridge mode and now we are on 250mb nbn and it is flawless.
Thoroughly recommend this
No longer supported by Merlin firmware either if that was a path people may have been looking at.
Does that mean you can't AI Mesh to a newer router that is supported?
I have a AC86U with Merlin, but was considering getting another cheaper modem to mesh for better coverage to the backyard/garage.Or is it simply just a matter that it won't receive updates anymore, but still completely functional?
I believe you can still AI Mesh to it, I don't see why that functionality wouldn't work as it's baked in to both stock and Merlin f/w's.
It just won't get updates, if all you want this for is to mesh and extend with your 86U as the primary, this should be fine.
Thanks. This looks like a good deal for me.
will remain functional, may people never update their routers (yes they should) if they don't have updates pushed from an ISP or auto update on. they continue to work
Thanks op. Was looking at replacing my NetComm router after moving to FTTP so just in time.
Just FYI
"NOTE: The RT-AX56U is no longer supported, as Asus has put it on End-of-Life status, and the previous Asuswrt-Merlin 388 releases for that model were all based on untested code."I've been using this one as a dedicated wifi AP for streaming VR from my PC. Absolutely rock solid connection and since it's only my oculus and PC on that network I'm not too worried about any potential security issues from the lack of firmware updates.
What is the difference between this and RT-AX1800S which is cheaper ($89) and still supported?
Not that much besides double ram/storage and cpu

If you have a lot of users/devices and a faster connection it might matterSounds like 5600 has a higher spec, what’s the impact as 5600 is EOL, in terms of normal use as AiMesh to my 82U?
Thank you
Great device - I upgraded from a cheap (unstable) ISP provided TP-Link Archer and this has been heaps better - no more rebooting the router. The app is good too, makes setup way simpler than accessing the traditional admin page in a browser, allows you to block internet access, etc
Wasn't overkeen about buying this one since it's EOS so bought ASUS RT-AX3000P for $130 instead which seems a bit lacking in comparison (other than WiFi speeds). Not sure if I made the right call but the next step up was quite a lot more expensive.
Will this be good enough to replace my Optus supplied Ultra WiFi Modem Gen 1. I'm on FTTP. Thanks in advance.
A lot of these ASUS routers going on big discounts now are either end of life or nearing end of life so be really careful
Bought one of these in July to replace a tempermental nighthawk xr1000 and haven't had a single issue with it.
