Click Failzy. As predicted right here on Ozbargain! I tried the site a couple of times, lost interest when the page wouldn't load and then tried a couple of the retail direct links but sooo slow. What made me laugh was they were still touting it on Tonight Affair as a potentially massive success here in WA about 2.5 hours after it actually started. But it was all talk about the Big Event coming up tonight!

    • Yeah, but hard when the shows are taped way ahead of WA time haha, or is TT local? Meh, either way it was nothing special at all, they try and treat us like we're idiots putting such a massive amount of hype on it and then the 'bargains' are mostly crap. Bring on Black Friday and Cyber Monday!

  • Disappointing. I would hardly call this "The sale that stops a nation".

Most of the retailers have only a handful of items on sale and the prices aren't even that great. It looks like some have even bumped up the prices on their sites just to offer a higher % off in the 'sale'.

A handful do have some nice discounts though, unfortunately the items being offered at good prices are never what i'm looking for…

think is more like "The sale that stops a nation retailers website".

  • Expect the site to go down yet again in a few hours once people start waking up and trying to get on after not being able to last night.

    • Yep not working at 6.15am!

What a joke, incredibly hopeless. I can't imagine the 6am load is that high, and yet they are still struggling/failing to cope.

Going to hit Cyber monday and get stuff posted to grandma…

  • It's back up and running as of 6.45AEST if you are interested.
    QK

  • Dead as of 8.07

    Ozbargain Rulez !
    ClickFrenzy has nothin' on Ozbargain

  • What a joke.
Tried a few different times last night.
Almost like playing the pokies. Press refresh & see if you win.
    I didn't.

  • Let this day be known as "Clickfail Day", it's the tuesday before Black friday.
Anthem would be rebecca black's "friday"

    http://www.news.com.au/technology/biztech/youre-fired-clickf…

News.com is taking OzB idea of a simple format to shop who is participating in the click frenzy and claiming it as their own crusade to do it without charge…. Shame Shame Shame…

    • Well, as expected from News.com.au. Maybe some of you guys can go and tell the other visitors of News.com.au where they can find a more comprehensive list :)

      • Already have as soo as i saw it.. but New.com does a screening of every comment before it gets publish.. what do you think is the odds of that.. i did follow the guide lines of staying on topic and not making it a personal attack (just on a company) so i dont see why they can't :)

        • Looks like your comment made it!

"Hard work has paid off once again… You couldnt just link the ozbargin website/article which you no doubt pulled this from?"

        • It doesn't look like they are checking the comments. e.g. Brad's footy boots

        • I wish.. that wasn't what i wrote.. at least someone did get through.

        • to New.com.au, Spam OK, pointing out you're problems NOT OK.

        • Looks like your comment made it!

Actually that comment is nowhere to be found now :)

Click Frenzy, now better known as #clickfail, couldn't do the job. So we've stepped in.

lol news.com.au, spare me your bs.

    • "It would be a shame that good new promotion opportunities and attempts to stimulate a sector in distress fail to prosper in our country when we need them more than ever. Click Frenzy are probably a victim of success and unfortunately further proof that people thrive on bad publicity and waiting for an idea to fail"
      from the comments section

Do they live on the same planet? This isn't some good Samaritan trying to save retail jobs, it was a lazy cash in based on all hype and 0 substance

    • Shame on news.com.au - taking the credit of ozbargain's hard work

  • I really wanted to get this ring for my partner: http://www.bevilles.com.au/two-tone-flower-centre-diamond-ri…
But I missed out and they're all sold out now. Anyone have any recommendations on any other places participating in Click Frenzy where I could get a similar ring for a similar price?

    • This is what I did — use Google Image search to find where the same/similar image has appeared elsewhere on the net.

      http://tinyurl.com/arop38c

Unfortunately only exact match are ClickFrenzy and Brevilles, but it does show other similar rings (probably not that useful though).

  • An EPIC FAIL sale.

  • I think the real winners of this debarcle are the media. They had a big story with click frenzy and in case it failed (the media probably hoped it would - conspiracy - hence the massive media promotion) they would have an even bigger story the next day.

  • +2

Its amazing how cons like clickfrenzy, various commission daily coupon websites etc get all the media attention; while real deal like ozbargain which people should really know about; are never gets covered.
Is it all money driven now or honest journalism still exists.

  • does anyone know of any other mega discounted rings? I need the oz bargain crew's help please :]

    • No particular sales but have a look at Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk's rings. I bought my wedding ring from Amazon.co.uk. Also had a look at Overstock.com. May be worth it to wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday to see if either of those sites have deals.

  • thank you :)

  • +4

    Wow, it gets even worse.

The entire Magento directory of the Click Frenzy website was left world readable, including configuration files containing details such as the internet protocol (IP) address of its database server, and the log-in username and password.

    Zdnet

    • Is this a grasp at trying to find something to blame the failure on? Or are they simply amateurs? (The people behind click frenzy).

      • It wasn't Click Frenzy that found the security holes but outside experts. I think the masses have already answered your second, probably rhetorical, question.

        • Are the 2 Arnotts not related?

        • +3

          I think they Arnott. :)

Anyway if it wasn't one Arnott someone else would have discovered the hole. Such is the power of crowds.

        • -1

That's great but my point is, it wasn't discovered by an external party which was your main point. It was discovered by a person, who is either an event organiser, or a related party. And as for the masses its not for them to decide, it is a matter of fact, whether or not the organisers have had sufficient training & / or experience with what they are / were doing (or building, as the case may be). This will determine whether they are amateurs or not - not the general public's opinion.

        • Well you are assuming that the two Arnotts are related and that it was a conspiracy to deflect the blame. Are they really? Or just coincidence? Arnott is not a very rare name. Let us know what you find out.

I stand by my statement that the public response has made them look like amateurs. Maybe they are, maybe they are not. It doesn't matter. As sportspeople and stage performers can attest, it doesn't matter how well trained or experienced you are, the moment of truth is the performance.

        • I'm not assuming. It's too much of a coincidence if you read the linked story properly.
The Arnotts don't need to be related by blood, but they are related to Click Frenzy.

        • Fine, but so what if the person who discovered the hole was related to Click Frenzy? It's irrelevant. That hole doesn't account for the server fail, which was underprovisioning.

Then again, who knows, maybe it's something to blame the leakage of personal details on. "Sorry public, no point wiping your info, it's all out there already." Hey look what you've done, you've got me thinking about conspiracies too. ;)

  • well peeps… if you used your real email addresses.. kiss it goodbye.

Already posted like 10 times previously :P

      • KTNX, didn't read all the previous posts, too many.

All good, it's well worth being posted a few times though as it is brilliant :)

  • To those who know about a) Charlotte Pass or b) even skiing ,,,,,,

Is this a decent deal or not?
    http://www.charlottepass.com.au/clickfrenzy.html

My partner and I would have to rent skis and whatnot.

    tks in advance.

    • It's an ok deal - it's for an off season stay though, so the snow might not be as good. If you don't know much about skiing, I take it you haven't been before, so you'd probably want to get lessons too. The other 2 big resorts- Perisher & Thredbo, do lesson packages that might be of interest.

Hitler click frenzy parody. Even ozbargain gets a mention.

Ha. Been posted like half a dozen times in this thread. Now I've added it to the main post. Thanks!

  • FYI: www.clickfrenzy.com.au have added info on their homepage for those who want to UNSUBSCRIBE!

"To unsubscribe from Click Frenzy, email [email protected]"

    • Shouldn't they, you know, add an unsubscribe link to the footer of their emails like any other entities who wish to send out commercial emails in Australia?

there's even a definition of click frenzy on urban dictionary!!

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=clickfrenzy

    • Thanks for that, had a nice lol at the definition :-)

    • ha! i also suggested the site was hosted on raspberry pi

"Despite our well-publicised troubles, our goal in establishing Australia’s biggest day for online sales was achieved."

Is this guy living in a parallel universe?

    • +2

Great response and good to know the whole story. Fully agree with the unnecessary personal attacks. This is the article he is referring to. The Herald Sun / News.com.au are such tabloid trash belittling every story into a sensational headline.

He sort of glossed over the technical issues. I wonder if AWS was setup initially if we would be talking about this at all.

While the consumers were losers in ClickFrenzy apparently the retailers did very well. According to Billy Tucker - Cudo founder:

One example I was shown paid less than $3,000 to participate but yielded over $80,000 in sales. An equivalent Group Buying offer would have cost the business $24 – 30k in commissions! A pretty good outcome for the retailer!

He goes on to say if they had made sales based on commissions as well, then they would have made a lot more money.

      • One example I was shown paid less than $3,000 to participate but yielded over $80,000 in sales.

Was probably Appliances Online tbh.. I know a few people who ended up making a purchase from them. $80k in sales from any of the other retailers I don't really see happening.
