[Price Error] ASUS TUF Gaming A15 15.6" Laptop: AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, RTX 4060 16GB DDR5 RAM, 512GB SSD $1199 Delivered @ Scorptec

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Killer deal spotted by user scoyzt. The downside of this laptop is high delay ms screen and brightness is not good enough (Jarrod said Aus market get worse panel than the US market). This laptop has Advanced Optimus + Mux. I would said this is the best 4060 laptop deal i have ever seen.

Yeah I did, probably a waste but given the time of year with parcel quantity and a fair bit of rain around didn't want to risk it

    • +4

Of course not, if I don’t receive what I ordered, I’m chargebacking. It is scorptec’s responsibility to ensure delivery; not mine.

  • +1

Bit the bullet, been watching for ages! Thanks heaps, now what should I buy to upgrade?

    • Definitely for new nvme M.2 1TB

      • How do one go about buying this? I’m a total computer noob, do I just search for NVMe and any would work?

  • This is good even against desktops for a comparable price yeah?

  • Damm i bought lenovo slim 5 otherwise i will buy this. Great value at everything

    • Lenovo slim 5 is a way better laptop in every way, I wouldn't worry

      • Have my eyes on the Lenovo slim 5 14" too, but the price of this is soo tempting. The lenovo does have double the ram/storage and also a 400 nits OLED. Also will be using it mostly at work so the more subtle styling of the Lenovo is prefered.

        • +1

I got the slim 5 when CR had a 16% return. I'm not regretting it, the price difference will be long forgotten while benefits will be enjoyed.

Having said that I would absolutely grab this if I didn't already have the Lenovo, hell of a deal.

          • @CookieJacker31: Been waiting for a Lenovo deal but at ~$1700 for a Slim 5 with similar specs on sale ($1999 atm) this is super tempting.
Care to share why the Slim 5 is better? As far as i can see, it's got a better screen, better build and reliability and a bigger SSD (which is a bit of non factor given the price of SSDs). Anything else?

            • @TurnipHead: That mostly it. They combine all the good stuffs that beat other laptops at that point. Do note that the 14" models has some compromise. Ram is soldered (Recommended to get 32gb) and the screen is found to have Flickering (Might affect people who is sensitive to that).

            • @TurnipHead: The screen mostly. I know most people put things like the graphics card and CPU at the top of their list but for me the screen is #1. I'm looking at it all day and if it isn't good enough it'll always bug me, far more than missing a 5% faster CPU or a few extra frames (occasional gaming). The screen isn't perfect but it is good, colours are lovely.

The Slim 5 is a on the cusp of getting too heavy to use as an ultralight substitute, not ideal but doable. It is a bit lighter than this one. 1.75kg vs 2.3kg.

              Build quality seems excellent.

Keyboard is very nice but does bleed a lot of light from under the keys (gamer style thing) I could have done without.

It did come with a fingerprint scanner built into the power button despite Lenono saying it had none when I order it! I was disappointed it was not an option as I really wanted one. Huge win there, no more passwords to log in. No windows hello face unlock but that's ok with the fingerprint reader there.

For me the Slim 5 was just the best set of compromises. It does miss out on usb4/thunderbolt which sucks. It's a bit big to treat like a tablet/ultralight but I can if it need to. No touch screen, would have liked that but not really an option on anything with it's functionality/price range.

A higher end Yoga 2 in 1 would have been the other option but I wanted gaming capability. Still ponder that choice.

  • Can this be hooked upto a 4k monitor even though the laptop is 1920 x 1080?

    • Yep.

    • +1

Yes, output resolution through ports such as HDMI are independent of the laptop screen.

  • Can you run an Oculus Rift S on this as it doesn’t have a DisplayPort,; only has an HDMI? Some of these laptops have the graphics card dedicated to the HDMI slot

    • Apparently the USB-C port can output displayport?

  • Class 1 gpu according to notebookcheck

    • is that bad?

      • Had to look this up myself. Basically, how good is the GPU on a 1-5 scale regardless of age. Obviously a 4080 beats a 4060 (both class 1) but it’s hard to tell if a 4060 beats a 2080 (class 2).

Obviously this gets hard/inaccurate somewhat at the edges (a top end class 2 likely beats a bottom end class 1 in some tasks) but I think this is great. I’ve got a laptop with a 1660Ti (class 2) and was debating this one - and at a glance, I know it’s better but not drastic.

        https://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Laptop-Graphics-…

        • I’ve got a laptop with a 1660Ti (class 2) and was debating this one - and at a glance, I know it’s better but not drastic.

~2x the performance (even higher with DLSS+FG) isn't a drastic improvement?

          • @HomeAlone: It’s definitely a big improvement, but for a new laptop I’d want more than 2x (i’m starting at a pretty low point, I’m three generations behind and mid range). Going to a 4070 or 4080 would be “drastic drastic” (3-4x?).

2x would get me bad performance on high quality settings. 3x would cost a little more and id be fine on high quality.

I just bought it and I don't need it, and I don't know why, (profanity) me i am pretty sure I will regret!

You’re spot on. (profanity) can downvote you all they want.

    • -2

      Waah cost of living waah
      Buys shtt doesn’t even need

  • Got one. Thanks! Hopefully they don't cancel it though.

  • Does this have 2 fans?

  • Thank you so much. Been looking for a budget gaming laptop since weeks and finally found one.

    • I have one of the TUF A15 sku's from 2021 (Ryzen 7 5800h, 3070ti - have upgraded the ram + have upgraded and re-upgraded the ssd's over the last 2 years). Battery is still fairly decent (but I gather that if I tried to marathon use it, it won't last the full 12 hours I made it last when I initially purchased it lol). The slightly below par screen didn't scare me off - like others if I wanted better quality I'd just connect it to another monitor (have connected it to my 65" 4K tv though haha).

I was dangerously close buying another TUF laptop during last years christmas/new year sales. Held off as I had read what the 2023 line up would most likely be and thought it would be cool to get one of them at this time of year instead. But alas during the year I already purchased another laptop (Asus VIVOBOOK - non gaming but didn't care lol). Even so this is a very tempting deal.

This is a pretty good deal, similarly specced laptops were a few $$$ more (like 15-1600) during the sales last year.
      Jump on it!

  • +2

great deal, I want to buy but have no use for it haha

  • Thats a fantastic price for a 4060 thats not even Acer

  • It says 'At supplier', so anyone knows how long does it take to deliver?

    • Yeh thats what worry me not to commit yet

      • Yeah, I'm going overseas soon so the delivery worries me.

    • +2

This is what i can find on that: We do not currently have stock at this location immediately available, but we should be able to get stock made available within 2-5 business days of ordering.

      https://support.scorptec.com.au/hc/en-au/articles/9000008891…

      • I found that too. But I'm worried about possible delay since the holidays are near

        • I can wait its just worry the deal is too good to be true where most others all selling $2.6k+, then will be a pain to get refund …

          • @kaikor: This price may be expected in the U.S, still a good deal. But seeing it here kinds of surprising. Maybe Asus wants to clear out the entire stock before the new models come out.
$2k+ for RTX4060 or even RTX4070 laptops are kind of ripoff

          • @kaikor: Yep, ordered one but expecting it to be cancelled. Happy to wait if they do honour it though, don't need it urgently, but a gaming laptop would be nice as I don't like sitting at a desktop.

  • +1

Hopefully, they will deliver it soon because I'm going overseas in January…

  • Is it good enough for rendering on blender?

    • +1

Won't get better at this price point!

      • Cheers, that's good to know

    • +2

Wouldn't blend in a NutriBullet but should be ok in a larger blender. Just make sure to not press the ‘Pulse’ button, go for at least 30 seconds.

  • +1

    Ordered one thanks .
A store just next to my apartment. Hopefully I can collect before Xmas !

  • +3

OK, too tire of keep looking at good laptop deals for the past 6 months, finally gave up and I took the risk and bought this !!! Hope this deal is real and it will arrive, lots of PC games I want to play after having my 2012 macbook pro for over 10 yrs, time for it to switch over as a video player for my wife.

Anyone know if I pay via paypal X4 and (touch wood) if this deal screw up, besides refund me back my 1st payment, the remaining 3 future payment will auto cancel, right?

    • -1

No you lose the remaining 3 payment

  • +2

Don't have strong reason, but just got one.

  • Does JB or HN stock these? If so would price match there and save hassle of scorptec should any warranty issue arise.

  • Would really like to order, but I somehow I doubt it will be delivered. Would be happy to be proven wrong though!

  • fomoed in at this price these were on sale for $1750ish

$1200 for 8 corez with 4060 is decent enough pricing

I saw scorptech had these for 1699 or was it 1599 was tempted, happy I waited lol

was also waiting for lenovo to do the 15% Cashback on the 7745hx + 4060 for ~1800 they never did it again lol

  • +3

    I have so much FOMO

    • same lol have you cracked yet?

  • +1

Don't need it, but I ordered it. Need to buy myself something for Xmas.

  • This is too good to miss, but I need a desktop…

  • Waiting all year for a decent deal, had to come at a time I'm overseas 😞

  • +1

Do people really game on laptops these days? When thr battery life lasts so long youre practicslly charging it anyways may as well have a desktop i eant to buy one and im not even sure why its 8c 4060 16gb ddr5 expandable ram slots but screen would lets it down if youre using an external monitor why not a desktop? Not to mention heat snd fan issues or am i coping

    • these are pretty low tdp it’s completely fine if you run at like 80% tdp, will start to sound like a jet engine if you start pushing it

you need to be plugged in for it to run at full tdp i believe, battery life would be less than an hr if you gaming full throttle

    • +2

There are pros (and cons) of gaming laptops over desktops:
      - The performance of laptop is good for most people these days. CPU performance is close to desktop in many cases. GPU is worse than desktop but not everyone really needs top tier performance. Many are happy with the xx60 GPU class, and many still play on 1080p.
      - The versatility. You can carry this when you have to travel (not necessarily all the time). You don't have to switch to different computer whenever you go to a different place (work/home) so you enjoy the familiarity of your computer. At home, you can connect it to a screen+keyboard to use it like a desktop; then take it to go if you have to. You need to plug in to get full performance but for light task it's OK. Most likely, when buying a gaming laptops, people don't care about battery life too much as they will be plugged in all the time.
      Cons:
      - Upgradability, you can upgrade the Ram and SSD not the CPU and GPU. But realistically, how often do you upgrade? If you upgrade your desktop 3-4 years later, you may have to change the entire thing from the Mainboard, CPU, and Ram so essentially a new computer.
I can list more and more pros and cons but let just leave it here.
The most important thing comes down to PRICE. Deals like this make gaming laptop a reasonable choice but many gaming laptops have crazy price tag that makes no senses

    • Not everybody wants to sit at their desk all the time and game. I don’t advocate for super expensive gaming laptops but something like this is reasonable.

  • Yes
Laptops are more convenient and economical when on sale like this at the cost of a little lower performance.
You get a built in UPS.

Is this the same model? The review says 450 nits.

    • +1

It's not the same. The good screen is US-based. Aus got worse panels.

    • I think it is different model, because the OP link says 144hz. Where in the youtube link shows 165 hz.

    • +2

" At just 293.2 nits, falling below the standard 300-nit screen on work devices. The contrast was better, at 1270:1, but I found that darkly-lit games and video content were at times indistinguishable, meaning that it’s not suited to bright environments.

The colour accuracy for sRGB, Adobe RBG and DCI-P3 came out at 100%, 83% and 83%, which helped to make up for the lacklustre brightness. It won’t be suitable for creative professionals, but the faultless sRGB score means that casual creatives will be able to engage in apps like Photoshop and Lightroom without issue.

  • Thanks OP, got one. I've been waiting two years for something like this to come up - hasn't been one this good since the lenovo 3060 deal for 999.

  • There's a 1% surcharge with Paypal or CC payments. Damn…

    • +3

      0 for afterpay
      a bit aids but whatever

      • Afterpay wont back the buyer if something goes wrong. Better to go with Paypal.
After you purchase using Afterpay, you are on your own there..

        speaking from personal experience here…

        • I honestly kinda like scorptec they do good deals, can’t be that bad for a major retailer

    • I initially choose AP to save $13 but then I am thinking PP could be a bit safer in case the delay was too long so eventually used PP

    • +2

Yeah not happy to pay $11.99 more but lucky its free delivery! Plus if we got screwed by Scorptec on this incredible deal, PP is easier to get our cash back.

  • Btw is the screen response time for this laptop really 18ms? That bad?

    • it’s like a 15inch screen you not going to be playing serious on that anyway

    • not the best for competitive multiplayer games like Valorant.

  • Perfect little machine for Revit and CAD work!

  • +1

What's the best way to connect two external monitors to this? Will there be any weird differences as one output would be HDMI and the other a USB C?

    • Get a dell or a lenovo dock.

I tried a few cheap ones from Amazon and they arent as reliable.

EDIT: Only necessary if you need a single cable solution, USB C dock plugs in and handle eveything including power delivery.

  • So RTX 4060 price dropping?

  • It's A$200 less than the price in China, even though the one bought in China has a refresh rate of 165Hz.

    • You must be talking about this special edition? Super nice green/white color indeed!
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSTfbcjoy4w

    • The special version has a better screen, 1980×1440 and 100% DCI-P3. While that doesn't chang this one is still a good deal.
But be carefully about the layered SSD and wifi card, they will kill each other in the summer.

  • damn i just got the asus strix g16 a month ago

  • Offer valid till 7 Jan. What are the chances of them selling out before then?

    • +1

      A bit over 100 percent

    • I even wonder if they will have enough stock to fulfil all the orders, just suspecting maybe we are getting imported stock (china or Taiwan version) instead if the price is this cheap

  • How does the asus tuf compare tot he lenovo legion?

    • +1

The screen is not as great compare to the Legion Slim/Pro. This one is comparable to the LoQ. Tho the LoQ has an option to upgrade to a better screen, albeit at a much more expensive price point unless you camp for cashback and sale. I would said this is currently the best 4000 RTX price/value laptop you can get atm.
