[Price Error] ASUS TUF Gaming A15 15.6" Laptop: AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS, RTX 4060 16GB DDR5 RAM, 512GB SSD $1199 Delivered @ Scorptec

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Killer deal spotted by user scoyzt. The downside of this laptop is high delay ms screen and brightness is not good enough (Jarrod said Aus market get worse panel than the US market). This laptop has Advanced Optimus + Mux. I would said this is the best 4060 laptop deal i have ever seen.

Note: Stock at supplier with no estimate time of dispatch from Scorptec. From Scorptec: Items marked as At Supplier mean we do not currently have stock immediately available, but we should be able to get stock within 2-5 business days of ordering. Then the regular delivery time will apply.

Not bad. Although you'll need another 8GB of RAM to fully utilise the full potentials of this laptop.

    Great specs on paper btw.

    • +11

16GB of RAM is ok on a laptop you dont think?

    • +7

      Its "16GB RAM"

      8GB DDR5-4800 SO-DIMM x 2
      Max Capacity: 32GB

      • +12

Oh yeah missed that part. Then yeah this is a very great deal then! No but!

        • -1

Sorry so 16gigs ram is not good enough?

          • +7

@Bluey123: Why did you reply to his apology?

            • @serpserpserp: Don't tell me the 8GB is not enough has become the 16GB is not enough complaint

              • +22

@khepri: Guys relax. I thought it was an 8GB RAM config as I missed the description when OP first posted it.

Anw at 16GB RAM this is a great deal!

no you dont wtf u on about

    • You building chatGPT 5?

  • +1

    How bad is the screen

    • +1

From what i have researched, it has high ms delay but color gamut is 100% srgb.

      • +3

Nothing an external monitor can't fix!

    • 1080p is quite low in current day and age, 1440p is pretty nice especially with the amount of dlss games out there, but canā€™t fault it at this price

      • Can this play 1440 with an external monitor?

        • +1

          Yup

        • 3060 can do 1440 at 60hz quite well in a fair few games, particularly ones that have DLSS (that thing is magic) and this is a generation newer

      • +9

        15ā€ 1080p is significantly higher DPI to 24ā€ 1440p 1.5x the DPI of 27ā€ 1440p

I wouldnā€™t be too worried about 1080p screen

        • you sit significantly closer to a 15 inch screen compared to a 27 inch one though, dpi comparisms are meaningless unless the viewing distance is similar.

          • +1

            @Kazusa: No you don't.

          • +1

@Kazusa: I actually find I end up further away from laptop screens, because they're attached to the keyboard and would require leaning down to be close to. A well adjusted desktop monitor should be centered only slightly below eye height.

The sitting closer argument mostly applies vs TV screens half a room away.

  • If only it wasn't scorptec

    • +2

      what's wrong with scorptec?

      • +14

They are by far the worst when something goes wrong. I've read all the horror stories about MSY back in the days, but my experience of MSY vs Scorptec for warranty related issues, MSY was 1000000 times better (I say was as I have not had to deal with MSY warranty since the uMart take over).
Just take a look at Scorptec on product reviews… the only positive reviews are of the sales experience, not of warranty handling. I've posted my own experience there as well, although it didn't get published yet (Apparently Scorptec get 15 days to try to resolve the issue before the review gets published).

        • +7

I agree, just tried to file a claim for faulty RAM with them. They are asking me to ship it in and wait up to 4 weeks, instead of paying for another set and getting a refund in the event of their investigation validating that there is an issue.

          Sucks real bad

          • +1

@despavr: It is because they will give you a refurb and close the case as resolved that it takes 4+ weeks (my experience).

          • @despavr: If the business confirms that the product does have a problem, it must reimburse the consumer for any reasonable return costs they have already paid.

Consumers should keep receipts for postage or transport costs so that they can be repaid by the business.

If the business finds that the product does not have a problem, it can make the consumer pay the collection and inspection costs. To do this, the business must give the consumer a reasonable estimate of these costs before collecting the product.

            https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/problem-with-a-product-or-ā€¦

        • Then this is a bit worry, oh no, it said 'Delivery: At Supplier' so maybe there isn't any stock at all or did anyone bought from them before at supplier and did receive their items?

        • That's because MSY had been fined twice and they probably hopefully learned their lesson.

Maybe the 10g fine isn't enough for retailers.

          • @JPerez: I've been shopping at msy since 2003. Never had i had a warranty experience even close to as bad as scorptec a single time during those 20 years.

            • +1

@jkim: Similar, been shopping at Auburn since the beginning with the huge lines, but I've never needed to rma with them.

              Been lucky

        • +1

          lol still better than CentreCom

          • +2

@Freestyle: Why do you say that?
I've shopped at MSY, CPL, CentreCom, PLE, BPCTech, PCCG and Scorptec of the local PC parts shops (Melb).

My warranty experience has been similar at ALL of them (MSY, CPL, Centrecom, BPCTech - never had to make a warranty claim against anything I bought from PLE and PCCG so far, so no idea how they are) bar Scorptec.
            1. Remote diagnosis with manufacturer.
            2. Get an RMA number.
            3. Take it into store for an immediate exchange or refund. For some cases, they do send it back for verification, but give you brand new one or refund when whoever they sent it to verify the fault (CPL did this for a couple of 2.5 year old HDDs that started getting bad sectors)

Of course, if you didn't do the fault isolation steps with the manufacturer, then you'll get very different experience with most of the above (I always did them since ~2005, due to experience with MSY warranty handling process and the difference it made to have the RMA number available when returning stuff for exchange or refund)

            Scorptec:
            1. Remote diagnosis with manufacturer.
            2. Get an RMA number.
            3. Take it into store for… Scorptec question why you raised a case with manufacturer and take it away for 4 - 6 weeks for "their own assessment".
            4. They claim they will "try to fix" (as if they can)… more likely what they're doing is waiting on a return of the same product from another customer.
            5. Ignore your choice of refund/replacement/repair and send you a refurb.

            • @jkim: This. They are all the same. Shopped from everyone. Been shopping pc parts for 10+years. The worst were Centercom who took 1 month to process an already approved refund. Ple, scorptec, pccg and bpctech are all similar. The worst ones are actually big companies. Like Samsung,

              • +1

@Ryxxi: I said they are all the same EXCEPT Scorptec. Please read again. Scorptec are worse than any big company.

            • @jkim: How many faulty products have ya bought goddam

              • @CrackLlama: I don't think I've had any. First computer I built from scratch was an Athlon X2…

              • @CrackLlama: I have been buying average of 40 parts a year for almost 30 years… probably average between 1 - 2 returns per year.

            • @jkim: Yes Iā€™ve had the same experience with CPL for an expensive processor.

In the future I will always buy expensive computer parts through Amazon or Ebay since they require instant replacement or refund and will follow up for you whereas any of these shops will make you call and email many times, lodge a consumer affairs ticket, and lodge a credit card dispute before you ever get a replacement ā€œapprovedā€ from the supplier.

Thereā€™s probably only one or two suppliers and they have a monopoly so all these stores have to follow the supplier policy.

        • +1

For worst aftersales, Scroptec may be bad but Centercom takes the cake. Once they sell the stuff you are pretty much on your own.

        • +1

This laptop comes with 1 year manufacturer's warranty. In case of warranty concerns, you can bring this back to us or directly to Asus for assistance.
that from Scorptec, so I believe that it will be better to contact Asus Australia directly.

          • @czking: Manufacturer warranty from Gigabyte > Asus / MSI, at-least in Melbourne anyway… may be the opposite in Sydney.
Gigabyte = courier collect the stuff from you at their cost, and ship it back to you at their cost.
Asus/MSI = sending to them is at your cost, sending back to you is at their cost.
Asus/MSI I prefer getting the RMA and then returning to the store, so I don't spend 30+ on shipping incl insurance from Melb -> Sydney. Gigabyte, I ignore the retailer completely and just do warranty stuff with them.

        • +1

          Thanks for raising this.
I wasn't aware there were issues with Scorptec and Warranty.
I was blind to that and purchased from them as they are a sponsor of OCAU.
I have raised an issue with them and they seemed kinda slack with the entire post sales/warranty response (almost comatose).

I would certainly alert the OzB community if any significant issues arise.
Fingers crossed they will do the right thing.

        • Scorptec is a pain in the @$$ regarding returns and refunds.
I used to be a usual client but something has changed over there, my latest (and the last time I bought from them) complaint about either a replacement or refund was a pain and stressful.
They play many stupid tricks like send it back to us and we must first decide, I wasted around 20 days playing around with their scripts then I applied for a transaction charge back, I got the money from my bank and I kept the trash Scorptec sent to me!

          • @billadm: I have been arguing with them for 6 months (since July). I will take the chargeback route.. contacted my bank 2 weeks ago.

            • @jkim:

I will take the chargeback route

I'm sorry to tell you that there is a time limit to apply for a charge back, depending on the bank it's usually 1-3 months, but again check with your bank.

              • @billadm: When they (my bank) called me (after I submitted the chargeback forms online), they didn't mention anything about the time elapsed.
They just said that since the refurb replacement was in my possession, I needed to submit evidence that I returned, or at-least tried to return, the refurb that was in my possession. So I sent Scorptec a message saying I need to return it, Scorptec told me to piss off, and I submitted that message trail as my evidence to attempt to return. Bank said expect 10 - 12 week wait before I see my money.
Also AFAIK, scheme rules are somewhere between 180 and 540 days depending on various factors including the class of the card.

                • @jkim:

                  my bank

What is your bank, what card did you use or did you pay by bank account?
Be ware because they are crooks and they always try to scam you and to deny the claim.
Your bank must abide by Mastercard or Visa rules so they can't make rules up.
Once you apply for a chargeback, usually the bank takes 20-30 days to deal with it, and no, your bank has no business regarding returns.
Imagine if you return your laptop then your bank deny the claim?
Once you apply for a chargeback you have no more business with the retailer so now it's between you and your bank.
I don't know what you said to Scorptec but you need to show that you complained to them and why you did it, product not as described or not working??
Once you send this communication to your bank they must give you an answer within max 30 days.
If they scam you, report the the issue to a financial ombudsman.
                  I done this several times!

        • +2

please remember to formally lodge your experience with ACCC here

          https://www.accc.gov.au/about-us/contact-us/report-a-consumeā€¦

This is how MSY was fined and now as jkim says 1000000 better if we can get scorptec and next CPL fined then they might come good too. But if no one reports there experience nothing with change. :)

For me Scorptec sat on a motherboard repair for months eventually went and picked it up myself and took it to the manufacturer repairer in person to sort it out. They are only second to CPL in terms of dishonest and illegal warranty processes for the local computer businesses I've tried out. I don't think I'd dare this large a purchase with them if they still haven't understood consumer rights.

          • @paulojr: That is why always buy with a credit card…..

  • +1

Amazing value at this price. Thanks OP and scoyzt.

  • +2

Fps players should invest in a big monitor anyway, so imho the high response time screen is an acceptable weakness for laptops. The color gammut is more important because it directly affects all media consumption.

    • -1

      Just get a desktop lol?

    • +1

I run a Acer Nitro in this exact configuration - have a laptop holder under my desk that I swap out with work laptop when needed and when it is plugged in the laptop lid is clam shell most of the time with output to a larger external monitor.

Laptop form factor is handy over a desktop for those occasions when I want to have it running off battery away from the desk or running work laptop at the same time.

Though there are times when I would like a better laptop screen and keyboard, these 4060 laptops are priced perfect for budget conscious users.

      Top deal OP.

  • Well heck, this is definitely tempting! I can't keep up with mobile GPUs, is this 4060 full tdp or gimped? Anyone know?

    • Full TDP. RTX 4xxx have very efficient and low TDPs.

      • @dualcore, @DuckWearingTopHat, @Pacify

Thank you all, you made it easier to make impromptu poor financial decisions haha

    • +1

If you mean next to desktop versions for 4060 the difference is more like ~10% (desktop averaging 10% higher frames)

But RTX4070 and higher are extremely gimped (40%+ higher FPS on desktop versions at 1440p)

Jarrods Tech on YouTube is your best source for laptop info.

    • +1

All the 40xx laptop cards have a very low wattage, so it would be a rare thing for any model not to be running at max power

  • Thanks OP and scoyzt bought one. Buy now think later I guess!

  • +1

Yeah! This is a great deal, I'm looking for a 4060 for last few weeks, This is the best deal I saw so far!
Even Black Friday offers were not that great

  • +1

Unbelievable deal - jump on this and use a portable OLED gaming monitor lol

    • +1

Any good portable OLED monitor that you would recommend?

  • Was looking at this model earlier today seemed like an okay price already they must've just done the price drop past few hours

    • Not only does it have a 4060 but has 780m iGPU, so it's an actual gaming laptop and can game on the go without being plugged in, pretty nice

      • How do games handle something like this?

Is it just a matter of switching a profile or do you have to manually reconfigure all the graphics settings each time you switch between iGPU/GPU.

        • When unplugged it will use the iGPU automatically. If for whatever reason you wanted a different game to run from the iGPU when plugged in you can set preferences for individual apps in graphic settings in Windows. I've seen people play Lies of P 1080p on 780m with good frames.

          • @lookingforadeal7: What I mean is if I'm using the GPU I would have all the graphics settings (textures, shadows, etc.) set to high/ultra, but obviously on the iGPU I wouldn't want to run the game that way.

If I switch to using the iGPU do I have to manually change all those settings? and then again the next time I go back to using the GPU? Or do games come with built-in profiles that I can easily just switch between?

            • @HomeAlone: Oh I see, yeah I'd say you would have to change all those settings but there might be something in Nvidia software to switch profiles?

        • It can be as easy as switching profiles too though. Battery saver will use iGPU, performance will use GPU and balanced will use what it thinks it should. A lot of the time I find windows 11 gets confused so I leave it in performance mode otherwise the iGPU can take over in games and frames turn to shit.

    • +1

It has been at this price for at least 17 hours.

      • I even had a price drop set for the model and didn't get notified and my Google wasn't showing the price drop. That's why we use OzB I guess.

  • +1

How many nits?? That's the first thing I look for when checking out a laptop….and if the manufacture doesn't openly advertise, then it's usually low and I move on.

    • You base your purchase just off screen brightness?

    • 250 Screen is ok but not great.

  • How bright is this display and How long is the battery life on this does anyone know?

    • +3

Asking how long battery life is…..is like asking how long is a piece of string. You should be asking what size is the battery, which in this case its 90WHrs. Which is pretty huge for a laptop, but this is a gaming laptop so wont last very long on full tilt.

      • I understand so I guess I should've rephrased my question as to how long would it last for web browsing/video watching/microsoft word usage. But I understand it's a gaming laptop so it may not be efficient.

  • Good price but shame about the screen. Hopefully ram can be upgraded

    • +1

      Hopefully

      Certainly.

  • I was on another deal about acer nitro 5 until i saw scoyzt post a link about this deal. Already bought while saw and also bought nvme 1tb cause i feel 512gb is not enough nowadays

  • Ordered!

Any recommendations on filling the additional Ram slots and M1 slot?

    • +1

Both RAM slots are filled and any 2280 Gen4 NVMe will do superbly.

    • I think it's come with 16gb so should be enough, about the nvme , i bought the Kingston 1tb also from scorptec so i can pick up with the laptop together

  • +4

get in quick. this will sell out soon. very good price…bargain!

  • +1

Monster CPU and a 8GB 4060 which is comparable to it's desktop counterpart. Bargain.

  • -1

    Good price but I need a 17" laptop ):

    • how about buy this, and an external monitor for $200+ instead of spenidng $$$ on a 17" laptop?

  • Great price. Saw in JB very nice laptop

  • +3

Bought one. Only God knows why

  • +1

Bought, need to find an SSD deal now!
