Lenovo Legion Go Refund

I previously posted a good deal on the Lenovo Legion Go Z1 Extreme at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/811675.

I want people to know the device is poorly optimised, straight up doesn't work on old PC titles whether via Steam or GOG.

Under ACCC we have a right to return a product if it is not of acceptable quality, so your best bet is to send Lenovo an email requesting a refund, referencing your rights on the ACCC consumer guarantees page.

If you've purchased the device and its not there yet, here are the honest pros and cons

Pros:

  • 144hz max resolution looks really nice if the title has simple graphics
  • Physical finish is actually quite nice, its expensive plastic to be sure

Cons:

  • Controller mapping is bs. Some games dont recognize any of the inputs
  • FPS mode is a gimmick. Its impossible to easily find what control is what and while the mouse feature is neat, the rest of the buttons are not ergonomic in-game
  • So many games dont work at all, or are poorly optimised on this device
  • The fan is 3-4x louder than it should be, obviously they've packed too much power in too little space. I'd describe the noise as an air-con unit that you can hear from another room.
  • The heat from the fans is ridiculous. Might be good for winters, horrible here in the summers.
  • The device isnt heavy for 5 min, but try holding it for longer on top of you, and I'm 191cm 90kg so anyone with a really small frame will just get their joints hurting even sooner.
  • Sound quality is ok, not great, the fan noise ruins it big time
  • The Lenovo software is aids
  • Don't even think about using this device for productivity, its not meant for that 'at all'

Honestly, I'm guilty in that I joined the hype train on this device, simply because of PC Master Race 144hz max resolution hype. That's why I use a 48 C1 OLED, but that piece of hardware actually does what it's meant for, almost perfectly. This device, though technically able to achieve that insane performance, is more of a Tech Demo than anything. It's really cool to brag about, pretty cool to try out a few of your favorite titles (I personally found Shadow of Mordor most enjoyable on this). But at the end of the day, its not a real product, same as those concept cars.

Mod Edit: Removed references to pirated content.

"Acceptable quality" doesn't mean acceptable to you, it means acceptable relative to what a reasonable consumer would expect given the price, market segment, and claims that the manufacturer has made about the device. As of today customer reviews of the unit seem generally positive. (4.3 stars out of 5 by Google's metric.)

It's hard to see how a gaming system that hasn't been out for all that long can be held responsible for certain games, particularly older titles, not being optimized for it yet. Most of your comments suggest that you're just disappointed with your purchase, not that it's not of "acceptable quality" by any reasonable definition of the ACCC guidelines.

You want to return a pc because you can’t make it play warez?
    Next level.

I recently bought a Steam Deck and absolutely love it. The reason I avoided the Go is it's a Windows OS and I didn't want to spend forever tinkering with the controller mappings - with Steam it's just automatic and I know how playable a game is going to be from store.

I don't think you've got a right to a refund just because you bought a Windows gaming tablet and don't enjoy tinkering. We knew this would be the case with the Go and it was talked about in many reviews.

If it's a modern Windows game and it supports a controller it should work fine on the Legion Go. You don't have a right necessarily to expect everything to work perfectly - like old games. There are plenty of old games that aren't supported on modern hardware and are best run via emulation.

ACCC rights are not there for buyers remorse.

I feel like this complaint boils down to, I expected a console experience, but pc gaming is hard.

It's even worse.. I looked up what (removed) repacks were and it's pirated warez - the absolute gall of invoking consumer rights because you've got issues with your pirated software…

        • Removed references to pirated content.

  • So will I have better chance running (removed) with steamdeck?

    • -2

From what I have tested in my own steam library, yes. See old titles like Tomb Raiders, and Indiana Jones. Nothing pre 2005 seems to work.

      • Wow so they have some sort of newer protection? Ah then no point buying steam deck for me

For the absolute +1 of entertainment, OP’s original thread on this device has a recommendation that they get a steam deck, as it just works, and op confidently replies (removed) repacks as the solution:

Yes because the device is marketed as a Windows 11 machine that can be used as a PC. Really, it is a modified windows machine, where graphics drivers are separate. Not all 'pirated' content is unethical. People do pay for their games, and some people don't want to pay twice for their games.

You also strike me as the kind of person who pays $300 for their Windows licensing fee. So tell me then, do you think Allkeyshops and similar marketplaces are 'illegal'? Are the codes stolen? Maybe. Is microsoft stealing from you by charging $300 for broken software?

Champ, to clarify, I'm laughing at the amateur " I'll use warez, I don't need steamdeck" followed by "wah, wah, the controller buttons don't map and I tried nothing and my warez don't run and I can't work it out, I want my money back".

If you can't swim, go back to the wading pool.

    "The Lenovo software is aids"

What are you, 14? Grow up

      • +1

        Lmao 😂

Bummer!!!! … still don't know what "aids" (for Lenovo software) is.

  • +2

But at the end of the day, its not a real product, same as those concept cars.

    Very wise comparison assessment.
    Thank you.

Lost me at playing games while holding it above you! You cant do that with your hands empty, let alone holding a device. Not sure who's paying you.

Also just because some games you like won't work doesn't mean much, even the steam deck has a limited set of games that are supported.

  • I've used to hesitate to unbox mine, just opened the box and using the LLG, windows updates, bios, new legion space. I'm happy. All games 50-60fps 800p medium settings, fsr balanced - performance, even Baldur's Gate 3 Act 3 still manages avg 45fps 800p medium fsr performance. I'm using 20W mode for unplugged handheld.

Need to adjust VRAM to 6GB (new beta bios 28)

The only downside for me is the weight and LB RB are hard to reach. It needs time to get use of.

Edit: Used to scare of high pitch whine fan noise but mine is totally not that bad at all. After updating Legion Space to the new version released today the fan noise is no more the issue for me. Wish I could adjust fan speed to 2000rpm. Avg system temperature is around 60C at 4000rpm when gaming, very good for me.

  • Finding the 7" screen of my rog ally way too small to my liking.

Was really interested in this device but it feels so, so first generation. Way more so than the ally.

Maybe in a few months.. or a great deal
