I previously posted a good deal on the Lenovo Legion Go Z1 Extreme at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/811675.
I want people to know the device is poorly optimised, straight up doesn't work on old PC titles whether via Steam or GOG.
Under ACCC we have a right to return a product if it is not of acceptable quality, so your best bet is to send Lenovo an email requesting a refund, referencing your rights on the ACCC consumer guarantees page.
If you've purchased the device and its not there yet, here are the honest pros and cons
Pros:
- 144hz max resolution looks really nice if the title has simple graphics
- Physical finish is actually quite nice, its expensive plastic to be sure
Cons:
- Controller mapping is bs. Some games dont recognize any of the inputs
- FPS mode is a gimmick. Its impossible to easily find what control is what and while the mouse feature is neat, the rest of the buttons are not ergonomic in-game
- So many games dont work at all, or are poorly optimised on this device
- The fan is 3-4x louder than it should be, obviously they've packed too much power in too little space. I'd describe the noise as an air-con unit that you can hear from another room.
- The heat from the fans is ridiculous. Might be good for winters, horrible here in the summers.
- The device isnt heavy for 5 min, but try holding it for longer on top of you, and I'm 191cm 90kg so anyone with a really small frame will just get their joints hurting even sooner.
- Sound quality is ok, not great, the fan noise ruins it big time
- The Lenovo software is aids
- Don't even think about using this device for productivity, its not meant for that 'at all'
Honestly, I'm guilty in that I joined the hype train on this device, simply because of PC Master Race 144hz max resolution hype. That's why I use a 48 C1 OLED, but that piece of hardware actually does what it's meant for, almost perfectly. This device, though technically able to achieve that insane performance, is more of a Tech Demo than anything. It's really cool to brag about, pretty cool to try out a few of your favorite titles (I personally found Shadow of Mordor most enjoyable on this). But at the end of the day, its not a real product, same as those concept cars.
Mod Edit: Removed references to pirated content.
"Acceptable quality" doesn't mean acceptable to you, it means acceptable relative to what a reasonable consumer would expect given the price, market segment, and claims that the manufacturer has made about the device. As of today customer reviews of the unit seem generally positive. (4.3 stars out of 5 by Google's metric.)
It's hard to see how a gaming system that hasn't been out for all that long can be held responsible for certain games, particularly older titles, not being optimized for it yet. Most of your comments suggest that you're just disappointed with your purchase, not that it's not of "acceptable quality" by any reasonable definition of the ACCC guidelines.
