Pretty decent price on this movie that I'm pretty sure we didn't receive on Blu-ray in Australia.

There's a 4k floating around from KL in America, but I'm yet to see it at anything resembling a decent price

    Great movie

Fantastic movie. Been a long time since I bought a movie on physical media though!

Unfortunately all too common a tale 😔

For those of us still holding on for the quality and ownership it looks bleaker and bleaker as people gravitate to streaming. Disney pulled out of the Australian market this year and now rumours suggest Sony will be in 2024

Pulled out of the market for physical media, you mean?

There's always plenty of HD/4K rips of your favourite movies on the high seas. The pirates are doing their bit for content preservation. They'll still be riding the waves long after these blurays suffer from bitrot.

Yes, but once it's unprofitable to make Blu-Ray versions of films in any market, those pirates will no longer be able to get and release them.

@JessC: They get ripped from the streaming services.

            • +14

@xyron: Streaming rips are no where near close to the quality of blue ray

              • @ONEMariachi: It pains me enough to see the only versions of classic music videos being 480p or worse. Outside of getting access to an MTV or Rage archive.

We're on a slippery slope of the only way to have a movie that isn't streaming, is a rip and recode of that stream and THAT is the acceptable one people accept as good quality we're stuck with for decades.

                • @formulated: What's wrong with classic music videos in 480p? Most were filmed on videotape.

                • +1

@formulated: I imagine at some point someone will probably make a business model to allow digital copies of Blue ray/4k ultra quality files to be downloaded.
There are already services that allow insane quality downloads for people with built in theatres in their homes.

              • @ONEMariachi: Isn’t bluray just 1080? lol

                • +4

@wouldyou: This is said in just about every comment section, but resolution is not the same as image quality or bitrate.

A 1080p Blu-ray will generally have a higher bitrate, less banding and less compression artifacts than a "4k" movie on streaming

                • +3

@wouldyou: 1080p comes in many many different levels of quality.

Have you never wondered why the same movie at 1080p can have so many variances in file sizes?

A 1080p blueray will look clearer and more defined than a 4k netflix stream.

If this is too 'artsy' for you, I shudder at the thought of what you spend your time on 😬

Watched many times, one of the classics

  • I like Charlie Kaufman movies but for some reason Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind was not as enjoyable or interesting as his others films for my viewing. which kinda tells me my perspective is the opposite of most people, because so many people have recommended this movie to me.

From Charlie Kaufman here are my favorites.

    Synecdoche, New York
    Confessions of a Dangerous Mind
    Adaptation

Ones I didn't like in no particular order.

the one in this deal (long title lol)
Being John Malkovich (another popular one)
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (I was excited to watch this one due to the theme's it covered but it fell flat IMO I don't remember much from it which isn't good)

    • I've loved them all, but am yet to see Dangerous Mind

      • I'm willing to give I'm Thinking of Ending Things another try. problem is it's a Netflix exclusive and I always struggle to find other stuff to watch on that sub which makes the increased "ad free" month price even worse value for me. usually I end up filling it with these random other netflix exclusive's which aren't terrible but really average.

I enjoyed Synecdoche, New York on the first viewing but it took me until a 3rd viewing to appreciate every single detail which really made me love the film.

4K is reportedly not worth the extra cash due to the CGI of the time, but, terrific movie and worth purchasing on BD

I remember (heh), getting the DVD from an ex-rental for $2. Oh look, that must be a goofy Jim Carrey comedy.. I was not prepared. Everybody's gotta learn sometime..

If I recall properly, it had great behind the scenes stuff and some other little bits Carrey and Gondry did that I hope made their way to this release. Thanks OP.

17th highest rated sci fi movie on imdb.

If that means anything to anyone.

The title of this movie and the fact that it's a love story always put me off watching it. I'm sure it's good, though. Maybe one day I'll get around to seeing it.

      Thanks for telling us

(For context the title is based on a philosophical quote saying that those who have spotless minds - cannot remember the pain of their past - live in an eternal bliss - the "sunshine")

    Great film 👍

Didn’t expect to get film recommendation here, but glad to have tried it.

  • I had been meaning to re-watch this.
Not long after it came out and got rave reviews I watched it expecting a masterpiece but a colleague ruined the whole story and I didn't really get into it.
