Not sure if all time low, but very good price. I jumped on it.

Weird mine did but this was years ago
They should be coming with the new milk jug with built in thermometer.
i don't need a thermometer, when i am about to burn my hand, i know its ready, lol.
Sounds like someone robbed you of a milk jug out of the box.

I'd recommend getting a Bambino or Bambino plus. Bambino is functionally the same as this machine (or maybe better), just without a grinder. You can get it for $400, then use the $85 towards a good grinder. You'll need to fork out $250 for a new one (e.g. Baratza Encore) but $85 would get you a decent secondhand one. The grinder on this is pretty sub-par.
Depends if you have the shelf space. I went for the express impress only because I can't house 2 things on my table.
Fair I suppose. Although bambino plus Baratza Encore isn't going to be much different in size to the Barista Express. The bambino is pretty small.
I’m not sure about the built quality of the bambino plus, but I was severely disappointed with the built quality of the bambino. The portafilter feels light and cheap and so does the tamper compared to the higher Breville models.
To be fair, the bambino still pulls a pretty decent shot for me and it does the job, so I wouldn’t say it’s a bad machine. But rather you can tell where they have sacrificed quality vs the other models.
I don’t think the Baratza Encore can grind fine enough for espresso?
Encore ESP. But even encore will grind finer than the barista express
Bambino doesn't have 3-way solenoid valve like the Express. Bambino+ does and would be more comparable but is $500. Breville infuser currently at $370 is probably better bet if your going for a separate grinder - althought the steamer is definitely better on the Bambino.
I would have done the same. Brambino plus also has the temp sensor and 3 seconds start. There as this mechine takes ages to start.
Barrsita express takes about 30 seconds. Not exactly ages.
I have the exact same coffee machine and I can confirm that it comes with the milk jug. Pretty basic one but its included.
Same - bought it about a month ago, basic milk jug was included.
Anyone got an older one of these and sorted the channeling?
Under the shower screen, the water only comes out from a single point (which is less than idea), and I believe the next spec up Brevilles exit from a ring. This point goes blasting out at 11 bar. So a single wall filter always gets blown out in the same spot. No chance of pulling a bottomless single shot without channeling. I tried to grind super fine, and tamp as hard as I could to see if I could choke it…nup.. a few seconds..then BAM..channeling!
I noticed my machine will output at 7 bar preinfusion for a few seconds, then go full 11 bar. So I'm getting better coffee by holding it in as preinfusion…but you really need 8-9 bar.
I'm guessing the new ones have the OPV a little more open. Can anyone confirm where the gauge goes on the new machines with the tablet / cleaning disk in blocking the filter completely.
It shouldn't exceed 9 Bar. I had one of these for a few years and never had that issue. Unless you're grinding or tamping wrong, might be a faulty machine?
Actually the older models came with the OPV set much higher than 9 bar. A lot of people online are performing an OPV mod/adjustment to correctly set it to 9 bar. I believe the higher set pressure was because the intent was for the machine to be used with pressurised baskets.
Yeah, i guess the water tray will fill much quicker, but i need to open the opv.
So the newer models dont go past the middle of the pressure gauge when fully blocked (9 bar is the middle of the optimum area)?
Mine goes straight past it..
@tunzafun001: Nearly every shot I pull is out of the ideal espresso range on the gauge (it's probably maxed out). Not sure what espresso is supposed to taste like, every time I've tried one it's been undrinkable but with milk most of my coffees are better than some I've had in cafes. If I try make a shot fall in within the ideal espresso range, I'd need to grind pretty course and it will pour way too quick. My machine has been like this from the beginning so it might be faulty.
I've never experienced channeling, even before I used a WDT tool & distributor/tamper. I picked up a new grinder a few days ago and each coffee taste better and there's less work with the WDT.
@johnnytran: Do you use a single skin basket, or the dual one?
Also bottomless open portafilter, or just the stock one? Mine sprays everywhere with a single skin/ bottomless.
Got a distribution tool, tried a WDT. Have no puck prep issues on other machines, so it's confined to this. Did have better results using my old EM440 grinder. But she still blasts through on some occassions.
I did notice a lot of channelling is on the very edges (on the side where the single jet comes in)..and the stock tamp is a bit small. So do wonder if that isnt helping tamp the edge properly. So just 3D printing a tamp at 53.95mm.
As for "My machine has been like this from the beginning so it might be faulty"… sounds like you have a great machine!
I noticed Hoon's cafe on Youtube even gets channelling (but not as bad as mine).
Don't suppose you know what number your top bur is set to? (need to pop it out and look at the black ring). They come default on 6.. My haemorrhaged like a rocket ship on the 6 setting. Moved it to 4, and the side adjustment on 1.
@tunzafun001: Single wall dual basket. Default portafilter although I do have a naked one on its way so maybe that will reveal some issues
I had been using the grinder on default burr setting, either 4 or 5 on the side dial. A couple months back I adjusted the burrs down 1 setting to grind finer so I guess 5 but still found myself using 3-4 on the side dial. Anything below that and the machine would probably choke and drip
The quality and freshness of the beans definitely matter. I grind finer on beans >1 month roast
@johnnytran: Cheers. Yeah I can't choke this machine at all. It just blasts a hole through at shower head exit point (right side).
I just bought Sao Polo SO from Lime Blue. I had to increase my grind on my Jura as these beans are nice and fresh.
A lot of people now do 6 bar extraction over 9 bar.
You can add some puck screen if you think you have water flow issue.
Yeah, im going to get a puck screen as the single water exit point is rubbish.
What size puck screen would you recommend? As in microns?
I had that problem, but removing the screen and cleaning seemed to fix it.
This is such a solid little machine. Can’t recommend it enough. Even their customer support was helpful when I rang them (ps wasn’t an issue with the machine, just the shitty beans we had once). Decent price on it.
Can I buy extended warranty for this ?
Some credit cards will offer extended warranty for free
Only extended warranty worth buying is TGG’s so you can get the money back via $20 gift cards 3 times yearly.
Please explain?
Gold concierge I got it for $125 for 5 years, each year you get 3 x $20 store credit, for a total of $300 in credits. Use it to buy coffee beans or something.
how does this compare to the dual boiler?
i found this review, do you find it to be true?
The Breville Dual Boiler is a better espresso machine than the Breville Barista Express. It can make lattes in half the time, and has the capability of producing a better shot of espresso thanks to it’s 58mm portafilter, insane temperature control, and wide range of programmability. However, in order to take advantage of those features, you NEED to invest in a decent quality grinder, and you need to accept that a 58mm portafilter and 3-hole steam wand come with a potentially frustrating learning curve.
also the portafilter thingy can be set to prewarm to when you wake up, instead of waiting half an hour like the other ones or running hot water through it 2/3 times
can, you recommend grinder(that isnt too expensive) ?
what's your budget? you can't go wrong with the breville dose control pro or smart grinder pro. they do go on sale, so you just have to hang tight and be ready to snag a deal. i was waiting for the smart grinder pro to go on sale, but the dose control pro had an amazing sale a few years ago, so i had to get it.
both are the same, but smart grinder pro is digital and you can make fine adjustments by 0.1 seconds of grinding time, while dose control pro are increments of 1 second. for me it was worth paying less then 1/2 price to get it. af full price i would just buy the smart grinder pro, they are only a $50 difference.
buy once, cry once. best to save and get the one you want instead of buying twice and kicking yourself in the butt for not buying the one you want the first time.
probably 5-800?
Barista Express Impress comes down to $687 which seems quite good
I have my eye on this model and in past few weeks price is dropping lower and lower. Would you think it will get cheaper on boxing day? I have no rush on buying coffee machine. But if around $400 would be ideal for me. ☺️
This and claim a $100 onus Gift Pack to justify?
Would be good but I would rather pay less. I did over shopping in past few weeks. 🥹
I just want JB Hi to offer the Barista Pro for $699 like Betta did a few weeks back which JB price matched and then notified me today that they cant fulfill the order.
Really had my heart set on the Barista Pro.
Got this on a similar deal a couples years back.
Good machine but steamer and some functions have dropped off.
Still works great but can be buggy even with regular cleaning and reset etc.
I’ll fork out the extra for a double boiler next time
Pulled the trigger. Hopefully it's not too bad. Looks like it's the one model that doesn't qualify for the free gift, but I've tried claiming it anyway because that is the ozbargain way.
What's the free gift and how to try to claim it?
There are two at the moment here: https://promotions.breville.com.au
One is for a free 2kg of coffee (then they'll try to get you to sign up to their bean subscription thing), the other is a knockbox, a container and a couple of glasses (but I don't think this machine qualifies for it).
Good price. Just note it doesn't come with the milk jug.
