I find the Belkin 65w to be quiet if thats a problem other people have with clicky/buzzy adapters btw. Big selling point for me.

  • If I have a 65W charging laptop, is there any advantage getting the 108W model if I'm not charging any other devices? (The only one I can think of is that I wouldn't need to get 100W e-marked USB cables)

I've read that some chargers marked 65W don't in fact supply 65W so I was thinking extra overhead provided by the 108W model would ensure charging at 65W…

Lenovo vantage shows 60w with this adapter. Interestingly can get up to 70 or 75 (can’t remember) with a monitor I have that does PD.

I've read that some chargers marked 65W don't in fact supply 65W

There are chargers sold as 65W that are actually 45W max per port (looking at you, Anker), but this one can supply 65W on a single port.

    • In real world if you hear clicking or feel any heat, you aint getting full 65w

Yea not sure about exact numbers but have found this one to be great. Charges my 65W laptop at full speed then when I'm charging phone or other device it drops to 45w and Windows gives that message to say it's slow charging…but yea quality and size has been great. Always carry one in my laptop bag. Pricey compared to others but good value at this price. I paid about $79 for it. Good post.

I think in ritz example it's fine - they're saying that when another device is plugged in, the max of above 65w is reached and it gets distributed through two connections instead - likely more through the USB-C/PD type one.

        • Yea drops to 45w for the laptop and 20w for the phone

Not long ago, I was about to buy that Lencent universal GaN adapter but impressed by your review I didn't.
Now I thought this was good as it has good reviews and is from a sound brand, but what you say here makes me think again…

Do you have any suggestions at all? I just need a small format two or three USB C ports GaN charger for my iPad, iPhone and Apple Watch. I guess 65w is more than enough. $50 ish would be nice if possible.
        Much appreciated.

Those three items shouldn’t exceed 65W in any combo on that 2-port Belkin charger so should all charge at full speed, I think.

Had a quick search according to some test results I found,

            M1 iPad Pro 12.9 takes 39w
            iPhone 14 pro takes 27w

they actually kind of do but I am more worried about the quality not the capacity

@NoBargainNoLife: For quality brands, the Anker 735 65W and the UGREEN Nexode 65W are relatively compact, have three ports and are quite good. They are both often available on sale for the $50 - $60 price range. The UGREEN is $60 right now, but the Anker 735 just went through a round of sale pricing, so might not be discounted for a while.

              UGREEN - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CHVXYSVQ
              Anker - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09XTX3GS8

On sale for $28, I quite like the NOVOO RG67 and it appears to be decent quality (more info in a comment I make below). But it's more of an unknown. It is also only 2 port. And does throttle the output after extended high load - which is likely not an issue in your case.

@Prong: @Prong Thank you so much for your help.

NOVOO RG67 is tempting for that price but I only have USB C cables nowadays I need at least two type C ports so it's a pass….
I have used a few UGREEN products in the past all good stuff. I will get the UGREEN one, thank you.

It also appears the Belkin 45W charger is even cheaper from another eBay seller. $40.67 (eBay Plus) or $41.65 without eBay Plus.

      • @SmoothCactus any thoughts on this one?

I have one and it seems decent for the price.

There is no teardown or deeper analysis that I have seen though, so it still a bit of an unknown.

I stuck mine on my load tester for a few days before using it elsewhere, and it held up fine, and ran at a similar temp to other quality chargers (which is quite warm at full output). It does throttle the output, so won't maintain the full 67W continuously. So not ideal for higher power laptops, but it is fine for most, as they won't draw the full wattage continuously.

The reviews note that the charger manual says it will step down the output wattage after 30 minutes, but somehow I misplaced my manual so can't see if mine is the same.

I couldn't replicate the few other issues people have had in the reviews. Some seem likely to be user error or misunderstanding. But there are some signs of mild quality control issues, but probably not more than other brands.

For $28.79, I think it is a good deal. But certainly more of a risk compared to more established brands, and with some downsides.

        Re: SmoothCactus
That's an indicator of poor thermal management.
Basically it gets too hot at steps down the power output in order to maintain thermals.
This is something that happens on a lot of poorly designed/built chargers that people are completely unaware is something that happens.
Begs the question what's the point of buying a charger at 65w rating if it'll only do that for 30-45 minutes.
Another example of how much misleading and misrepresentation happens in the battery bank/charger market.

It's not overheating - it's how the charger is designed to work with both ports in use. (as superroach notes)

It shares the 65W total across the two ports, but does a 45W/20W split if using both ports.

So in ritzaus's example, when they are using a single port with the laptop, the charger negotiates to be able to supply up to 65W. But when they plug in a phone or other device, the charger renegotiates the maximum power it will send the laptop, down to 45W, and will supply up to 20W to the other device. This triggers the laptop to notify the user that the laptop is "slow charging", because 45W is less than it is rated for.

That particular eBay listing doesn't have the voltage outputs (always a good idea to check the manufacturer website if in doubt), but the Belkin unit does have it written on the front in the pics.

The 65W is in stock and slightly cheaper from another eBay store. $40.67 (eBay Plus) or $41.65 without eBay Plus.
