Sunlight is the source of life on Earth, but we may not be aware of all the ways it benefits us. Our bodies manufacture vitamin D-3 when the skin is exposed to UV radiation from sunlight, but the ability to do so decreases as we age. Vitamin D-3 maintains healthy calcium and phosphorus levels in the body for strong bones: it increases muscle strength in older adults; and it also plays an active role a healthy immune response. Vitamin D-3 (cholecalciferol) is the optimal form of vitamin D. It is the form of vitamin D that the body manufactures in sunlight, and the form most efficient for the body's needs.

Please be aware that the recommended daily intake of Vitamin D3 is well below 2000IU, it can vary with age groups but generally no more than 1000IU is advised and if you're spending time in the sun (ie summer time at the beach) you probably shouldn't be taking it at all. I say this because vitamin D has a residual effect on the body, meaning it can build up beyond your bodies needs and you don't just pee it out like Vitamin C. It will have a toxic effect in your body which can and will make you ill if you're not careful.
I'm no naturopath so take this with a grain of salt but I do maintain a pretty stringent vitamin routine and my partner being pregnant means I look into these things a lot and talk a local naturopath from time to time too.

Long story short this is good news because this bottle requires smaller doses than suggested = lasts longer :)
It's a good bargain compared to what you'll find in the chemists and I'll be buying some (note: I have no association with Vitacost)
