Hi Ozbargainers,

As many of you are aware I have some pretty awesome arrangements with suppliers who work closely with me to provide amazing deals for Ozbargainers. One of the downsides of these arrangements with some suppliers is a minimum purchase or commitment hurdle I have to clear to get special pricing. Often I must take product X in a certain quantity to receive product Y for a certain price. Minoxidil is one of these high value products I have standing commitment to purchase. Usually this works quite well and I can balance sales between our retail pharmacy, our ebay store, our website and sales to Ozbargainers, but occasionally supply and demand get a little out of order and I end up with a tens of thousands of dollars worth of stock piling up - which as any small business owner knows, is a really bad thing to happen when the rent, tax, wages etc are due. Anyway I ran a similar deal back in January and sales were huge: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/749298 so I think by holding this price - the offering may be of interest to many tonight.

Anyway, once again - my loss is your gain and I need to clear a few hundred bottles of Minoxidil 5% (the good stuff), as I still have quite a few shorter dated Cetirizine 30's left (which expire at the end of Feb 2024) I am also throwing in a box of this hayfever medication with each Minoxidil sale tonight.

Not sure if I want to shelve the rest of my life haha

        • Nah, you just shelve the suppository.

    • yeah you can but depends on GP

    • The best place to get oral min is from a Thailand pharmacy, bottle of 100x 5mg tabs for 220 baht. Score the tabs in half and you get 200x 2.5mg tabs for $9.50

For those who want a bit more info about Minoxidil he's a scientific summary worth a read.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6691938/

It's good for certain conditions (including thickening eyebrows & Androgenetic alopecia
Or non-scarring alopecia), but iffy on many other conditions (notably Alopecia areata & Chemo).

Amazingly even though the drug was used in the 70's as anti-hypertensive medication, they have no idea how it stimulates hair growth.

Huberman did a ep on hair loss, I think he said minoxidil seems to extend the follicle lifecycle. I always thought it helped with blood supply to the follicle. Either way it works for me, results boosted with micro needling.

      • TBH, i used to think it was mostly BS, but i remember stumbling across that article and realising there are some of proven benefits.

I stopped washing my hair every two days and do so only once a month. No more hair in the drain. It takes some time. I had thicker hair after 3 months and no more bald patch. Guys stop washing your hair every week

    • +4

What an old wives tale. I wash daily.

      • -2

Well give yourself time and you'll see your hair falling. Dude drop the ego and listen. I was there with thinning hair and would gobble whatever pills to make it stop

    • dude I have oily hair and have to wash my hair every morning

      • +5

I have oily hair as well. The first 3 months are the toughest and after your hair fixes itself. Your hair is oily as your shampoo stripping the oil out. Your hair is producing more oil to compensate.

Stop washing and give it a quick rinse instead

        • -1

This is fact. My dermatologist told me the exact same thing. He said the whole idea of daily shampooing (and even conditioner) came out in the 70’s 80’s in America by Johnson and Johnson to sell more product, and just like almost everything the Americans see on TV they eat it up and started washing their hair daily. Hair never needs to be washed daily, at most once a week and a rinse every two or three days max. Let your scalps natural oils do the work.

@Iwantthebestprice: What about the guys who use a decent amount of product. I have fine, straight hair that lies very lame when left to itself. I pre-treat with mousse before hair drying for some body, then clay to give shape and lift from the roots, and finally hairspray to set. I repeat the clay and hairspray at least once on my non-shampoo days. I use light, matte products, but two days gives it a heavier feel and look, can't really go much longer..

            • @muwu: I stopped using product because it would mean I have to wash my hair more. So now I just get my hair cut a bit shorter than normal. I liked to use matte based products to as I liked how my hair looked with it but it was not worth thining my hair for some product. Try change your hair style or use as little product as possible?

          • @Iwantthebestprice: Your dermatologist has no idea what he/she is talking about. Your oil glands cannot "sense" how much oil is already on the skin.

Hormones and genetics determine how much oil is produced.

Washing every day will not increase hairloss, that's an old wive's tale. In fact removing sebum containing DHT buildup may be beneficial in preventing male pattern baldness

            • @Heide-OCE: What a stupid response! If you wash your face too much your skin drys out, and I in response your oil glands in your face creates oil to stop dry skin. The scalp is no different. Before you reply perhaps educate yourself before you start looking like a fool.

Ever stood in a hot shower for ages and your skin drys out, it does not stay dry for ever it creates oil to naturally moisturise the skin.

Before telling a dermatologist he has no idea what his talking about, go to school for 10 years and study skin then come back to me ;)

I mean I don't mind a quick rinse at all. Would that be good enough? I know shampoos are all lie but man the oily hair is just too much to ignore it. I meet clients everyday and need to look presentable

          • @trantonz: From the web:

“The most common cause of greasy hair is over-washing it. When suffering from oily hair, it’s natural to want to wash it every day. But this, in fact, causes more oil production and only makes it greasier.

To break this cycle, we recommend only washing your hair 2-3 times per week. The best shampoo for greasy hair is one that is ‘clarifying’ or specifically designed for oily hair to deeply cleanse and get rid of any dirt or impurities.”

Your literally making your hair worst the more you do it. I use to have extremely oily hair, like I had gel in it all the time kind of look, took about 2 months of shampooing once a fortnight at first and rinsing every 3 days and eventually it worked out and I would say my hair is pretty much normal now.

A quick rinse with warm/cold water should be ok, avoid hot water, I also use to have very hot showers but that is also not good for the scalp.

          • +1

@trantonz: I now just use Redkin shampoo once a week, and during the week will rinse my hair with cold to warm water once or twice and has worked for me ever since

**avoid conditioner does nothing for oily hair and made mine far worst

          • +1

@trantonz: Give it time. You'll need 3to 4 months. I'm the same man. I have to meet people for work everyday but I'd rather have slightly greasy hair than no hair at all.

      • +3

You can use a dry shampoo for oily hair.

        • what brand you use?

          • +1

@trantonz: Batiste Original. Ive tried all the brands, the cheaper ones are really crap I wouldn't bother.

    bald kings are EATING tonight

  • Any chance foam is available?

I previously bought this and the dropper isn't one that screws in with the lid so is just loose

  • do you have to apply twice a day or is once enough?

    • +2

You have to do it your entire lifetime, otherwise you will lose in a few weeks everything that it has given. Pointless. There are other solutions proven working, that fix the root cause. However, that's a perfect business for the farm industry.

    • It doesn't work for everyone, id say also depends how far along your hair loss is.

I wish I started my routine earlier in life.

      Minoxidil topical every morning.
      0.5g finasteride daily
Micro needling once every 10 days (1mm)

I fkn hate needles but desperate times call for desperate measures

      • ever try 1mg fin daily? any difference compared to 0.5mg?

        • I started with 0.5mg then to 1mg then back to 0.5mg. I didn't notice any difference on the hair but I did have a decreased libido at first. I don't know if my body eventually compensated or if it was placebo effect but it's fine now so I'll stick with 0.5mg.

The way dht blockers work, 1mg isn't twice the effect of 0.5mg it's a lot less anyway. I think it's logarithmic or something like that.

        Stop washing dude

        • My hair is short, like buzz cut short. I rinse every shower, wash with tea tree shampoo or soap maybe once a week.

  • I've been using it for the past 8 months and had zero results. In fact, my hair's getting thinner.

    • -3

      Stop washing hair

    • +3

Works for some. Genetics also comes into play. You could replicate by simply adding some peppermint oil to your shampoo. That'll get the blood flowing around the scalp.

  • Been using this for a year now on the widows peak, have made just slight progress but perhaps it also stopped the decline.

  • 12 months currently sold out, however ebay plus members can get 12 months supply for $95.29 plus $7.99 postage:

  • Hmm, not sure whether to try this or snake oli.

    • +2

It's not snake oil. It's been around since the 80s, with sufficient studies to prove it works.

  • +1

I've been on 1mg Finasteride for 17 years, wash my hair every 3rd day and use dry shampoo on the off days. Continue to see great results to this day.

  • Anyone tried Regain?

    • Regaine, Rogaine etc are just premium brands that all have Minoxidil. All you need to know is that you are buying the active ingredient which is Minoxidil and to take note of the % and how it is applied

  • OOS?

    • Available - just a slight price bump so the deal is technically expired but the 6 months supply is still available, just @ $59.99
