eSIM and Boost Sim Combo

I've got the s23 ultra and I've been getting many Boost sims using the cashback deals lately.

I want to retain my main mobile number, which I currently have with a Boost sim (after a transfer from woolies mobile) and that sim charge expires tomorrow.

I was thinking of using an 180 or 365-day expiry eSIM in my phone for talk and text only, with no data + a physical Boost sim for data purposes.

I'm no expert when it comes to eSims, it is new to me. Are there any good deals available? I found this one, but I've never been with amaysim so I don't think I can get it to work: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/803996

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

  • Once you have activated the sim you should be able to convert over to esim through the app, thats what I have done and it made it easier for travelling if you needed to get a physical travel sim

    • Yeah it is just that the recharge is expensive for the Boost, so I figured I'll get an esim exclusively for talk and text with no data. And use the Boost sims for the data.

      • Sorry I forgot what I was replying to, I was talking about amaysim. You said you don't think you can get it to work but you can.

        Order amaysim sim
Convert it to esim on amaysim app
Put boost sim in phone for data

        • Oh, so it works despite being a new customer?

          • @Aidan9800: Yes, is there a reason why it wouldn't? Not sure why being a new customer would stop you

            • @Brick50: Oh it was just that in the link I sent it says exisiting customers only.

              • @Aidan9800: Sign up for a $12 sim and then swap it over, they often have deals or cashback offer for cheap sim

                • @Brick50: As in, get the 15gb $12 physical sim, then since I'll be an existing customer, I can use the deal above?

  • -1

If you value your main number i wouldn't move it around too much.

    • What is the risk involved? Thanks.

      • Getting it caught in limbo and both providers saying there's nothing they can do.

  • I don't think the boost sim cards are sustainable for too long. A lot of people who bought several sims at the very start are now getting errors when trying to buy more.

There is no guarantee that the 'profit' boost sim cards will continue for 2024.

Just something to consider so you're not stuck with no data plan on your main phone number and not have a second sim for data.

    • well, a plan with no data should be relatively cheap. worst case just port over halfway through the yearly plan if things change, or just buy a cheap data sim instead.
