Vegeta Beef Slow Cooked Tex Mex with Beans & Corn 400G $2.25 @Woolworths

I purchased this a few weeks ago as it looked interesting.

I eat it with rice and it was absolutely delicious!

The ingredients look nutritious and the salt content is not too bad, about a gram.

Other versions available.

Same price at Amazon.

I didn’t measure it but I did feel some thrust below a few times later.

      • Thrust behind with those beans!

Unless you are allergic to it…

          • +1

@jv: Sure, but then why wouldn't you highlight every single ingredient in the can? Someone might be allergic to it, right?

            • -1

@DiscountForThee: They only highlight common allergens as per food labelling laws.

              • +2

@jv: So why would you highlight something which literally isn't an allergen?

    • +11

What exactly is your problem? This is pretty good compared to a lot of other things people eat. Stop trying to police people's eating habits, especially eating habits that are relatively healthy.

      • What exactly is your problem?

Why do you think they have a problem?

        • +3

The fact they're instructing people to do something different in a slightly hostile way? I know reading comprehension has never been a particularly strong point of yours, but try harder.

          • +1

            @bobswinkle: hostile ??

            like this ?

I know reading comprehension has never been a particularly strong point of yours

            • @jv: "Geez… seriously."

You do know what "slightly hostile" means right?

              • @bobswinkle: If you think that is hostile, you have serious insecurity issues…

                • @jv: Do you know what "slightly" means?

                  I don't know why I engage with you. You're so dense…

What are you comparing it to, sludge?

Problem is people you like are too blind to see that eating crap like this is killing your body.

Heart diseases and diabetes are constantly on the rise.

I don't care if you dont like what i say because its the honest truth. Keep shoving this crap down your body to save a few bucks and will regret it later one when your riddle with diseases and end up in the hospital.

When you go through having your mother die of bowel cancer and dad having heart diseases and diabetes let's see if you will become health conscience or not for the sake of not just yourself but your family too.

        • +4

Although I empathise with your family history, there is no indication by the OP that this is what they “regularly eat”, nor is there a reason to judge them based on this post.

For all we know it could be one of those in the pantry foods to have as a back up or after a busy day… we don’t know. In that case, I think it’s a great option.

The ingredients don’t seem to be too bad compared to many other things in the market.

At the end of the day I suppose you need to allow people to make their own choices and worry about your own.

        • +5

What? The nutritional profile of this can isn't that bad at all… It's fairly high in protein, relatively low in fat and has a high amount of dietary fibre. Its carbohydrates are mostly from beans and corn. I don't think you have any clue what good nutritional food is.

        • Also, I grow and cook my own food and never eat this sort of thing. But that's personal preference about taste. Not because I want to police other people.

        • +4

People don’t get bowel cancer and heart disease from eating beans and corn. They are not high risk foods.

In fact they are amongst the foods nutritional experts promote.

          Get a grip.

        • Are you still following the food pyramid? 😅

      $2.25 is $2.25

I’m a bit of a health nut and those ingredients and Nutrition Information look pretty damn good to me.

This with brown rice is nutritiously better than most of the prepared foods Woolies sells.

I don’t have a problem with Croatia either.

    • +1

would have purchased if they were senzu beans…

Thanks @gork ordered 1 to try from Amazon.

  • Lol - Love the description in the Product Details - Narcho Mix?!

  • I'm on sale?!

Passed by this, today hoped salty caramel ice cream at Woollies would be half-price, but was $11/2 kg, did not buy it.

  • 32.4 grams of protein for $2.25 for an actual meal ready to eat seems like pretty good value. Good amount of fibre too. Is there anything that beats this (apart from stuff like raw eggs, milk powder, or WPC in bulk)?

    • +1

I agree, I look at the ingredients and nutritional details of what I eat religiously and I do not see anything egregiously wrong with this product.

Now obviously fresh is best, that is a given, but for a quick convenient meal, you cannot go wrong here. I like it with rice.

The product is also quite chunky and not watered down like many others, quite spicy too.

  • Picked one up to try, cheers OP, nice amount of protein indeed in a single can.

  • checking in, grabbed the tex mex and the beef and green veggies versions. tex mex is garbage, would not buy again

    • +1

There you go, you learnt something.

      I liked it.

Not everyone likes the same thing.

      • yeah. i dont mind these canned meals usually but not that one. maybe the other variety i got was better. i might be unfairly comparing it to stag chilli which i love
