Government Subsidised Hot Water Tank Replacement

Has anyone had their hot water tank replaced by this scheme and can you share your experiences and prices.

Received a call offering to replace my current hot water system with either :

Emerald heat pump 220 litres for $440 (3-4 people)
Chromagen 280 for $799

Have received other calls in the past for much lower than that but didn’t take much note.

Can't comment on your two specific options, but overall the rebate process was seamless and a great initiative by the Government.

The parents HWS went kaput about 3 months ago and they got it replaced by chromagen heatpump for $33.02 under the rebate scheme. They only opted for the 170L tank as there's only two, sometimes three adults in the house. It's been working a treat ever since.

Be aware that as a heat pump, they do have fans, so can be a little noisy. But unless it's right outside a bedroom window (or a neighbours) that shouldn't be an issue. It's quiter than airconditioning, they didn't notice it all about 2 days after install.

    • Thanks. Are you able to share which company did the instal?

      • The installer will be specific to your location. Chromagen has relationships with a large number of installers across Australia. Chilli Hot Water did my parents and they were great.

  • Read this and then the rest of the thread

Unless your HWS is very old or about to die, these fly by night schemes are negative for both the environment and your pocket

      Cool story.

How does your statement apply to my forum topic?

        Cool story.

        Hardly…

We always have enough hot water…

      • jv will never run out of hot water. You might. That's how.

        Edit: beaten

        • My gas instant hot water system, or my landlord's system really, needs electricity to work. So even though it's gas if the power goes out the won't work. Same with the gas oven too.

But having said that, being able to take an hour long shower with piping hot water is very nice. Can't imagine using a tank system that requires waiting for it to fill up again.

            Sounds expensive.

    Received a call offering

Automatically tells you it's not a bargain and you should be doing your own investigate

Personally, bottom of the barrel heat pump systems seem like a poor choice to me for something you want to be reliable and long lasting.

  • What state are you in? And what's your existing hot water system?

    • NSW. Hot water electric

    Received a call…… stop there.

  • Replaced an old gas heater with a 270L heat pump, was $1000 off in VIC. That being said, I shopped around, and didn't just get a quote from a cold caller.

    • Can you pm me the details? I've been looking online and trying to find some reputable installers

    • @SydStrand, how you going with the system. I am offered Ecogenica all after rebates 1k out of pocket in VIC. which system did you have it install Chromagen?

  • I have a Cyanergy heat pump, 200L. Cost me $99 with the government scheme

    • @jellykingdom Who is the supplier?
