Convert 2 Westpac Altitude Points to 1 KrisFlyer Mile (Normally 3 Points to 1 Mile) @ Westpac Altitude Rewards

830

The altitude points to Krisflyer conversion rate is usually 3:1. However, yesterday when I was converting my altitude points to krisflyer points in my Westpac account. It was showing 2:1 ratio and I have received Krisflyer points successfully today. I just would like to share this information with everyone here, however, I am not sure if this applies to everyone's account.
Here is a screenshot from my Westpac account:

If so that is insane value.

  • +1

Nope, my account is still 3:1

    • So it does not apply to everyone, a little bit strange. I uploaded a screenshot from my Westpac account showing conversion rate.

Good deal. For those looking at getting a new card though can get 120k (90k + 30k - Virgin offered bonus) for an Altitude Velocity Black card. Converts to 77,419 KrisFlyer vs 50k on the normal Westpac Altitude program.

    • 120k (90k + 30k - Virgin offered bonus) for an Altitude Velocity Black card.

I just applied for the other Westpac card (70k + 30k bonus).
If the KF is still 2:1 , then I should change it to the Velocity Black card then.

This 2:1 must be the last card, to have this exchange rate.

      • +1

Note that the conversion rate is 1.55:1 for Velocity to KrisFlyer. The 2:1 is westpac to KrisFlyer direct.
I was just trying to say that if you’re applying for a card just for this deal, you’d get slightly better value with the current promo offered by Westpac’s velocity offering

        • How is it a better deal? The Velocity one offers 90k first year which covers to 58k Krisflyer. Whereas the other is 120k which converts to 60k Krisflyer at 2:1

Anyone else seeing 2:1 conversion rate? or only me.

    • Which card do you have? Might be different depending on the card type?

      • Westpac black altitude card. I have done the transfer early this year as well and it was 3:1 ratio last time.

      Yep I am.

Can’t figure out if any good way to convert and redeem for items

      • +1

If reasonable quantity, krisflyer points can be easily sold in the forum for at least 1.5 - 1.6 cents per points.

        • Which forum??

          • @tororm: Ozbargain forum

            • @fomal: I thought they'd banned this now?

  • +3

I can confirm it shows 2:1 for me.

  • +1

    Can confirm I see 2:1

  • Bugger, recently converted 20k points for gift cards. 140k left, never used Krisflyer, is it a good route for flights?

    • +3

I think it's one of the best frequent flyer awards in Australia.

    • KF is pretty good,
      and once you're in Singapore,
you can redeem KF for onward flights from there.

    • 68k business one way to South East Asia.

    • -1

KF is excellent, lots of routes and availability. No classic rewards type BS either.

      • +1

Not entirely true. They have 2 tiers.

  • Same here, great find OP

  • Great find op. I have this offer but always find Velocity to be better value. You can use velocity to travel Singapore with less miles than Krisflyer. Not sure if it's worth converting to Krisflyer and get more points at 2:1 or velocity at 3:1 with 20% bonus. Any suggestions?

    • +1

There is more availability on the Singapore Airlines website than on Virgin Australia’s. I value KrisFlyer points the most and always aim to convert to KrisFlyer. However, I accumulate all the points in Amex and only convert them when necessary.

  • Done - thanks.

Whats the best use of KF pts? SQ flight to SG?

    • That's pretty good value. You can, however, add on a flight to Malaysia or Thailand for the same number of points, so that's even better value. If buying a return ticket you can stop over in Singapore for almost free (zero points plus taxes), but be aware that with return tickets you cannot change the return flight(s) once the forward journey has commenced. For that reason, if you don't want to stop over in Singapore it's better to get two one-way tickets.

      • I should add that a stopover is defined as a period of time in excess of 24 hours. Anything under 24 hours is defined as a transit and does not even cost taxes.

      • Their regional system is great, like you mentioned can fly two sectors within the one region through Singapore at no addional miles.

    • Is there a rough amount for this flight, including taxes?

      • +1

A Saver Award is 30,500 miles in each direction to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Philippines, Hong Kong, South China (eg Guangzhou), or Taiwan from East Coast Australia, all via Singapore. I can't remember the exact amount of taxes but around the $200 mark one-way. It's a good deal.

  • thanks OP! This deal is great!

Need this deal to be extended to Citibank

    • Yesssss please citibank!!

  • Ooft I just covered 240k worth of altitude points into KF. So how does the saver work?

How does this work as someone whos never done it before? Do I buy a ticket and then apply to be on waitlist for saver or?

    • I have heard waitlist saver ticket are hard to get. probably try a different date or buy the advantage award tickets.

      • You just need to be flexible with your flights. I helped family pick up two business savers to Singapore with still quite a lot of availability for Q2 next year last week.
        .

    • best to head to Australian Frequent Flyer forum, all the information you need will be there

  • Confirming 2:1 for me too! Wow. This is an absolute bargain esp with the point devaluation

  • Got to say my transfer ratio on the Altitude Black was always 2 points to 1K.F mile but I was a holder of the previous Westpac Krisflyer Platinum card which was phased out. I believe those who had the previous Singapore Airlines Co-branded card have additional benefits with certain merchants for bonus point earn. Singapore Air has always had a robust FFP programme compared with others. Availability is not what it used to be but is still better than other carriers. Recently flew 4 sectors all on Miles with comfortable layovers in New Zealand, Singapore, The Philippines and Thailand. The longer the sectors the further ahead of time I suggest you lock in flights, especially Business and First saver awards.

    • when will those saver and advantage seats be available prior to the date of departure?
is it simply going to SQ website and try make a booking as usual to see reward seats?

      • +1

Singapore Airlines has good visibility for pointy end rewards, even with no status.
Although paying for a month membership with Expert Flyer can help see what seats are available on what flight, makes it helpful to book if you require 2 seats or more together.
        Especially for First class Suites!

  • Aww man. Just redeemed like 500k points on a bunch of Ikea vouchers for my new place - this would have been a lot better deal! It is showing at 2:1

Good find. Hopefully they keep it this way for a while.

  • Also seeing 2:1 - contemplating moving a heap but the singapore points expire eventually.

  • The issue with them is that it's very difficult to find available Saver rates. Most of them are waitlisted. And if you book waitlist fare you will have to wait until closer to the departure date. Too much uncertainty.
Other than that they have very competitive amount of required points and low taxes.

  • I cleared out my Westpac Altitude points and have received Krisflyer points at 2:1.
Was planning to close out my Westpac anyway so this was a nice sweetener!
    Thanks op!

  • Is the 2:1 conversion rate valid for the Altitude Rewards Platinum credit card as well?

  • Has anyone worked out if this is a limited promotion or just an error?
Have people actually received the 2:1 points?
I suspect if they pick this up & only give you 3:1 there would be no chance of reversal.

  • It looks like this has been available for at least 9 days:
    https://www.reddit.com/r/creditcardchurningAus/comments/1841…

If it was an error I'm surprised that it would still be going & if it is a planned promotion I'm also surprised they have mentioned it anywhere.
    Maybe a Black Friday sale?
It would be interesting to know the expiry date.

I'm interested but cautious about the hard 3 year expiry rule.

    • I don't like the hard expiry rule, but I do acknowledge that they give you plenty of warning before it happens.

  • Does anyone know how long does it take for the points to appear in Krisflyer?

    • 1-2 business days normally

  • Looks like it's back to 3:1.
