Why the heck used-car price is crazy….? are all people high or something… FXXK INFLATION…!

This will be my first car.. so I will end up damaging.. So I decided to buy a cheap… cheap car but okay to drive, no issues, and…..okay to hangout with girls….?????
So…I personally don't like small cars like yaris, picanto, mazda 2, Getz…… but if I have to yeah why not.. Better than push bike ..
I am personally inclined to the #5. 2007 Honda Civic VTI AUto MY07 as it is a proper dealer sale and drive away price… I know dealers can be dodge.. but..

What do yall guys think???
You guys are good at bargaining and saving… need some help people..!

Thanks!

    • $6,900 for the Getz would be a good price if we were in 2012.

Realistically its an optimistic $3k car

Go the Lancer, they aint fancy but they are reliable and durable.

also 9.0 l per 100 KM is pretty good for an older mid-sized car.

    FG falcon on gas

So many overpriced cars…. you seem to like those, seriously 20yo car for 9k?!

  • Some hope for OP:
Used car prices keep falling as market supply improves

OP's shortlist will increase to 20 vehicles with that information.

  • test drive and find out which one you like to drive. dont bother with opinions from the peanut gallery

    Lexus IS250 2007

    • Why did you get negged for this? its a perfect problematic car for a person like this

      • Problematic? It's one of the most reliable things out there

  • Fiat Panda

  • This really is a stupid post from the OP! Why does he not research it himself!

    • This is how you do research in the social media age.

  • Yaris is cheap to run and repair and generally hard to kill

Why the heck used-car price is crazy

I was thinking the same. The prices should be half of what’s listed to start with!

2007 civic asking $10k??? No wonder RBA is upping the interest rates.
That car was <$20k when new!!!

Get quotes for insurance on the top 3 either most voted or top 3 you want.
Insurance costs might very well be a deciding factor.

  • +1

OP should buy a car with the engine light on from a mechanic and service it every 2000 kms.

Most cars listed are bulletproof. Ditch the idea of the Getz, the others are much nicer. You don’t mention anything about lifestyle. Why limit yourself to a sedan. A crv for instance is more practical than an accord.

    • More practical but also more $ to run, and also probably more desirable therefore more $ to buy.

Yes, running costs are not going to be a lot higher, but don’t buy an SUV if you don’t need it for practicality.

  • i'd recommend something like this (no affiliation to seller just what came up in carsales)
    https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2012-ford-focus-amb…

will comfortably put another 50000km on the clock.

Couple of key points for me are try and get a car with under 80000km and get a car with a service history (ideally log books, but if not service receipts which identify the car)

being a ford parts will be relatively accessible/relatively cheaper, insurance similarly will be on the lower end and should not depreciate too badly.

AU Series 1 Falcon Wagon in liquid silver. ROH alloys on the front, cheese cutters on the rear, peeling clear coat, 416,000km.

    If not available;

VT Series 1 Executive sedan in Bermuda blue, CSA alloys on the front, cheese cutters on the rear, missing fuel flap, severe paint fade, 332,000km.

    Both excellent options.

    Hope it helps.

  • Mate just pick one

  • Euro's weakness is the automatic transmission. If you can, get a manual one.

    • was complaining about taking ron 95 or above don't think a manual trans is going to help

    • Not always! Peugeot use Aisin automatics, the exact same Toyota use! That’s one reason why they are generally very reliable these days

      • Isn’t Soapy talking about the Honda Accord Euro?

Also, what Aisin do Peugeot use?

        • +1

          Ah, yes you are right.

          TF70-Series Aisin AWF6F25 (300Nm) - 6-speed transverse
Groupe PSA transmission code AT6-III (EAT6)
          Peugeot 208, 508 II, 308 II, 408 II, 2008, 3008 II, 5008 II

  • I can't believe the Lancer with no service history is the top recommendation. Car was likely NOT serviced on time and if it really was (yeah right) the mechanic is so thorough he couldn't be bothered filling out the log book. OzBargain is NOT the place to get your car buying advice.

  • Stop spamming OzBargain with the same useless poll weekly.
