I thought young people liked subaru foresters…?

    • -1

Subaru.. well can't see good budget

  • +2

    Camry Corolla

    • +7

cars are all going to be sold by the time @daddyy decides 😂

    • -6

I just went on inspections for those cars… And they were not good… They lied to me that the condition is pretty good when I asked them the details before going to inspection.

      • +4

Everyone is going to lie, though…. The reason they ares elling is because they are sick of issues, including the petrol efficiency costing them 3k a year extra in fuel.

        • +1

Some people are genuine when it comes to reason for selling (moving overseas, needing to accommodate growing family, etc.). But everyone does seem to oversell the condition. I personally recently had a look at a car that was supposedly well looked after and serviced recently. Got there and it was almost at death's door. Another was described as "great condition" and one of the photos in the ad appeared to show the passenger side seat leather peeling off.

          • @OzBarAnon: Outright scammers. If I wanted that I'd buy/sell stuff from OzBargain classifieds.

      • +5

I would have hoped that experience taught you that cars are cars and the most important thing is to go look at and drive them. Apparently not though, because here we are again.

Look at them, take the best one to a mechanic, if it’s fine buy it. No one here can tell you the best one to buy from your list.

      • +3

and yet you're asking even more random ppl advice over multiple threads, and every thread before this have ignored the advice and started from scratch. You shouldn't even be driving, such is your disconnect with the 'moment;.

    • I remember the good ol' days when if you used a pole they stayed down and a chalk outline were optional.

  • +48

Oh FFS just go and buy a car. We don’t care which one. A poll with 11 choices is useless. You aren’t going to see enough results to make your mind up for you. The more you look at the more you’ll be confused.

Pick Japanese or Korean. Drive it and listen/feel/smell for weird stuff. Buy it if nothing weird. If you can’t make a decision get a friend/family member to go with you (for a couple of cars, not a dozen) and get them to yay or nay it.

Yes, it is a bit of a lottery with a used car, but at some point you have to step up and make a decision.

  • +14

Get an Alfa man, one with Alfa’s 3L V6

Based on your threads you’ll end up buying the cheapest, sh.ttest car you can get and will be back on here complaining about the cost of repairs anyway. You might as well get a car that you’ll enjoy the engine note of!

    • +1

      Get an Alfa man…

As in a car or an actual Alfa man?

    • +1

If OP wants the same effect without the engine note, he can get a peugeot!

  • -1

Compensate Albo and get a French bomb.

    Turns heads for sure!

    • There's nothing 'bomb' about modern French cars, they are well built machines these days..

  • +9

    Have you considered a MG4/Atto3/Tesla

    Cc @pegaxs @Gunnar

    • +2

Good point. My EV uses no fuel so, like me, the OP won’t have to worry about fuel and servicing prices

    • +4

      That makes sense. Cheers.

  • +8

It’s a car not a spouse. Just pick one as you will turn it over in a few years anyway

    • +1

Maybe not, my first car lasted 12 years
      .

      • +3

        What about your first spouse?

  • Doesn't Accord only consume premium fuel…? and damn it consumes 9.1L/ 100km

I had a 2009 Accord VTi and currently have a 2016 V6L. I put either U91 or E10, no issues. Even for the V6L, I get 8.5L/100km if I have eco on, but YMMV, literally. I have had a 2002 Integra, 2009 Accord, 2008 CRV (with upwards of 270k) and 2016 Accord and I can confidently say besides usual maintenance, I haven't had any issues whatsoever. For my second car, I will be going for a cheap Civic or a Jazz.

    • mmmm v6 accord. delicious. how are you liking it? i would love to have one of the newest accords, it's a shame sedans are no longer popular - one of the best looking new cars around, in my opinion.

my car history includes a jazz and a civic. i can't recommend a jazz highly enough. we had a 2002 jazz with the vtec engine and a manual, it was just a sensational car. and it did duty as a van too if necessary. the civic was great but i wouldn't want to have a sedan and another sedan (unless you're looking at the hatch civics but eh).

sidebar to this sidebar… the mechanic in my street dailies a honda legend. now that's a car.

      • +1

        how are you liking it?

I love how it looks (I have a white one) and I love how it drives. I have 2 first world problems:

        • If you have an iOS device, sometimes the Carplay freezes so when you're driving on a highway, you may miss the exit and go ahead thinking you're still xxx km away from the exit. On my previous Android device, it was perfect and I had no issues.
        • I somehow never seem to get the automatic wipers to perfect. It's either too fast causing the scratchy sound or too slow causing rainwater build-up.

Regardless, it's a special car (one of the last of the Honda V6s) and I will likely keep it till the end.

    • Accord Euro recommended to only use premium. Regular accord not.

  • +8

Make sure the tires have plenty of thread.

    • +5

There’s plenty of threads for OP

  • +3

This will be my first car.. so I will end up damaging..

    Well, AirBags…

    • +5

      And insurance. INSURANCE PLEASE

      • +6

Something makes me think that OP is not gonna buy insurance.

        • +2

I mentioned checking insurance quotes in a previous thread and OP ignored it.

Hope they don’t bother us with yet another “nO iNsUrAnCe HeLp” thread

          • +7

@barge-in hunter: Oh, 100% that thread is coming, and I am betting it’s within 4 weeks of OP finally buying a car… which won’t be for another 12 years anyway…

          • @barge-in hunter:

            “nO iNsUrAnCe HeLp”

            You forgot the,,, random puctuation..!

        • Almost definitely, then we get the I hit a Ferrari in an intersection thread

  • Where did you find all those cars?

I bought a car off ebay once after searching for low mileage cars but they took out that filter ages ago.

    • +1

      Gumtree still has it.

  • +8

    Merc C63s AMG Brand New

    • /thread

    • But only if it has Serious metal scratch on the R) side where you can see rust

    • +1

best yield, no question about it bruv

  • +4

Perhaps mods have a way to automatically merge all threads from a user.

    • +1

      Merged to [Megathread]

      • +5

I'd prefer they were submerged completely

  • +2

This will be my first car.. so I will end up damaging.. So I decided to buy a cheap… cheap car but okay to drive

Have you factored the cost of insurance into your budget?

There are also many different insurance providers, all offering a wide range of policies with a multitude of options.

You will need insurance in place before you drive the car away, perhaps a second series of posts in relation to insurance for first time car buyers should be commissioned in conjunction with these purchase posts?

  • +4

    OP is overthinking this.

Cars are just cars. They all do the same thing the same way. Like refrigerators.

Find one that appeals to you. Make sure it doesn't have any obvious issues. Buy it.

If it turns out to be a poor choice for some reason, well, whatever else you had chosen might have too.

    • +3

Read somewhere that decisions that people take a lot of time and trouble making don't turn out in the long run to have been better decisions than ones that come to fairly quickly. The trick to being happy with a decision is then moving on and getting on with however things turned out.

      • Would actually be really interested if you happen to remember the source for this!

  • I drive my wife's 2010 manual Yaris 220kms on it, clear coat peeling it's only the 1.3ltr, manual is still fun to drive and it consumes f all E10 fuel, it's ugly as but as I get older I couldn't give a shite what other people think lol also insurance is very cheap

  • This will be my first car.. so I will end up damaging..

    Waiting for MS Paint.

  • +4

    Bugatti or the space shuttle

  • +2

On this list Lancer, every time. As long as the service history is good. In fact if there's not low ownership, good service history, they should never make your list.

Aussie is spelled Aussie. If you want to get deported keep it up.

  • +7

    lol… 11 cars is not a “short list”…

Also, “JFC @ your post history…” pick a (fropanity) car already… or are you just lining up every single car that has been made, ever.

Can’t wait till Sunday when you find another 10 cars and need us to pick from those ones.

    • His original list looked like the Macquarie Dictionary

    • If that's the case just report the thread. IMHO, Mods should just close down this obvious waste of time and bandwidth as soo as it drops

    • "short list" is on me. Original title "My first car … Please help…" seemed kind of vague, given OP's previous threads on the same subject.

      • +4

I found "short list of 11 cars" to be amusing 👍

        • +1

It's a Melbourne Cup field. I'm betting on a roughy - Number 8 the Yaris.

          • Serious metal scratch on the R) side.. I can see rust……
          • Looking so ugly
    • +5

If he’s a tyre kicker when asking for advice can you imagine how painful he would be to the people advertising the car?

      • +1

New Thread, I'm thinking of kicking a tyre, which wheel, on what car, where.

  • +3

Why would you need 11 cars anyway?

"How many yachts can you water-ski behind? How much is enough?"

I have a parent with mental health issues that impact his decision making process. https://qbi.uq.edu.au/blog/2020/10/how-do-mental-disorders-i…

It is most frustrating but they really do find it hard.

  • +1

OP used to be indecisive now he's not so sure. FFS just pick a bloody car.

  • +1
  • +8

Op where do you live? If you cant decide on a car(and need to make 5? Different posts) then i dont want to be on the road when you are driving and yoi have to make split second decisions.

  • +1

    bmw

  • +6

Just pick a fckn car and stop creating threads

  • +1

The Yaris or the Lancer. TBH in this case the lancer is likely more reliable than the Toyota. Lancer (CJ onward) is a pretty hardy vehicle and it proved itself in europe in that case. The problem is the Lancer will use more fuel, even 10L/100km isn't unusual day in/day out in manual guise. Pull the airbag fuse out for both of them at this point. Ignore all book / online recommendations for lube and just use CK-4 rated oil, buy when it's on special (luckily that's quite often, in-store and online).

    • Lancer has it re parts costs I reckon. ( Not so for 'all' OEM parts though) Shape room etc is worth the sml extra fuel impost. Plenty of forums to help with any queries. It's also worth considering lots of folk don't service autos as or when they should.

    • I bought a CJ back in 08, flogged the crap out of it, serviced it well and it ran as good as new when I sold it with 105,000km on the clock. Very good cars although I'd be wary of the CVT. Friend also had one and the CVT failed somewhere around the 180k mark, but other than that no issues with their CJ.

The CJs did have an issue with the electronic module in the ABS pump, but a 10+ year old CJ would have most likely had that module already fail if it was going to be a problem.

  • -1

8 and 9, but i like manual, the car will last til your great grandchildren.

  • I wouldnt go below 2010, its already a 13 year old car.

    Subaru forester
    Mazda 3,cx5
    Kia sportage
    Hyundai ix35
    Toyota corolla, rav4 or camry

Also $9k for a clapped out 21 year old camry…
A lot of your options will be on their last legs regarding bushings keep in mind. And manuals should be wayy cheaper, no one is buying them

    • One important thing is that over 15 year old car can be written off and you don't need to register in PPSR list

Also, I don't trust a 2005 car that travelled below 100,000 kms, the seller may have altered the odometer. LOL

  • none, get a toyota camry hybrid

  • +3

Most of those cars not worth more than 5k

  • +3

honestly buy whatever-shitbox for 5k is. you have made numerous posts even talking about interest in importing then disregarding it and putting more options. Like many have said, pick a car and drive it

    we don't care anymore

  • +2

No wonder people trade there cars in if they have to deal with someone like you xD

I am sure they are all fine mate…if you are worried pay someone to do a pre purchase inspection for some peace of mind

  • Don't buy a car almost as old as you are.

  • +2

    That’s a long short list

  • Wonder what OP wants to be when they grow up?. Is that the next endless thread trail?

  • +1

I think you need to decide what's most important to you here. Looks? Performance? Economy?
Eg years ago, during the petrol strikes, I decided I would never let fuel consumption be a determining factor when I bought a car. (Back in the days when "What does she do?" meant miles per hour and not miles per gallon). No-one else knows what's likely to most appeal to you.

So pick two cars off your list. Get a coin, assign one to heads and one to tails, and flip. If you're disappointed with the result, well there's one car you can cross off your list. Rinse and repeat until you've narrowed it down to just one car. Go and buy it. Done.

    • +1

Don’t tell him that. He’ll then do a post asking about which car to allocate to heads and which to tails

  • I sold my car for 7k, lots of people with higher mileage were 10k+, so I put it in at 9k and had to reduce it slowly until 7k before I got any nibbles. Most people are kidding themselves.

  • Corolla. The Toyota’s strategic Car.

  • Avoid any CVT models and just fcking but something already

  • +3

    LOL those prices
that Getz is literally a $500 car with a +1400% covid tax AND PEOPLE ARE PAYING IT
