Click 2-Outlet, 3 USB-A, 1 USB-C Powerboard with 1.8m Braided Cable $15 + Delivery ($0 with OnePass / C&C / In-store) @ Bunnings

206

While not a markdown, I rate this as a low-cost overnight-charging travel solution as long as the 3 x USB-A + 1 x USB-C outlets don't fail while you're away. Bought one myself. The USB outlets may not work in 120V countries.

  • So its.. Not a bargain?

This is, at most, a 15w charger.
You could've bought 2x powerboards for the same price:

    • +19

If there's a cheaper compact 2-outlet power board with USB, ideal for adding to your travel kit - please post it.

      • if the usb doesn't work in 120V countries theres no point in promoting this as a travel accessory.

        • +7

So a Korjo adapter that only works in Europe isn't a travel accessory?

          • -2

@sumyungguy: korjo makes different adapters to suit different plugs. this isn't built for other countries.

            • +7

              @[Deactivated]: Sometimes I travel domestically.

              • -8

@sumyungguy: I also travel around my house daily, that doesn't mean I consider my 4 port powerboard in the bedroom a travel accessory.

        • Stupid question, but why wouldn't the USB work in other countries. My guess is that it would work.

          • @TEER3X: I just wasn't sure so didn't dare to not address that.

          • @TEER3X: Because this is, first and foremost, an electrical powerboard with a hardwired Australian AS/NZS 3112 or Type I electrical plug, designed to run on Australian 240v power.

If you were to convert the plug with some kind of passive travel adapter, then you'd be relying on the internal USB controller board being designed to run on global voltage (100v~250v AC), and by extension, everything else you plug into the outlets.

It might work, as you say - but given it's a powerboard first; USB hub second, you risk frying the USB board inside (and depending on the protections they built into it, any devices you might be stupid enough to have connected as well).

Just another reason to avoid buying this, and instead getting something that's actually fit for purpose.

      • Personally for my travel kit I want something that provides 100W so when sitting between flights I can quickly top up the juice of multiple devices from a single power point. My preference is for a detachable cable that uses a figure 8 because taking a couple of the cables works for multiple destinations and makes accessing some power points simpler.

If I wanted the powerpoints, I would consider something like Xiaomi Power Strip 3xUSB (2A1C) Surge Protector 20W USB-C Fast Charging Power Board, but not my first preference.

Sure, with those arbitrary requirements, it's not a bad price. But the point is that is its regular price, it's not on sale or on a deal etc. If it was on sale for $10 or something, then it'd be a useful post.

Otherwise you're just telling us about the thing you bought at RRP. This is a site for finding bargains, not regularly priced items.

You can get an extension cord for $4.85 paired with a slightly better USB charger for less money, and less volume in your bag.

Or get a much more powerful and useful 65w GAN 'all in one' version, which can actually charge a laptop.

Personally, I don't understand the need for an extension cord/powerboard though? I just bring one of these with me when travelling domestically.

        • When I travel domestically with a party of greater than one, each person has at a minimum phone/tablet/watch, perhaps a notebook, camera, drone and possibly date night appliances - it's alot.

          • +1

@sumyungguy: I'm happy for you; but again this post is a product sold at RRP. Not a deal/bargain.

boasts three USB-A and one USB-C outlets, providing a total of DC 5V/4.5A
So approx 1.1Amp per output. hahahahah

    • yeah that 4.5A total makes it kinda useless.

      • +6

Not everyone needs high current all the time.

        • no but if im to keep 4x usb devices plugged in 24/7 as to cut down on cable clutter. I expect my devices all to work simultaneously. example google home mini needs 1.8~2 amp on its own.

          • @[Deactivated]: Unless they have changed the design recently, google home mini's run off a normal power plug and not a usb port, so its power can come from the power plugs …

You have 10 Amp total with those two. (which is standard for most powerboards anyway). Run two and you still have the 4 USB ports to spare.

            • +1

@spazmodik: the OG Google home mini power supply is a micro usb 1.8A brick. Chromecast requires 1.5A to run reliably. IR blaster roughly ~1A.

this example amp requirement in todays standards are already on the low side which the 4 usb ports on this can't even replace.

so whats the point if you're gonna resort to using the included power bricks anyways then might aswell just get a cheap 4,6,8 plug power adapter. the bricks already come free and you're guaranteed full compatibility to all devices.

This isn't a long running deal.

Since OP mentions overnight charging - anyone know a cheap charger that charges at no more than 500mA? I have one but need a UK adapter to use it and it's getting quite loose. It's become an e-roastie, if you will.

    • You might try finding an old Blackberry charger but, if I remember correctly, these were 750mA (but I may be mistaken).

    • just do a search for "5v 0.5A 240v usb charger" from your typical chinese online stores.

  • OzRecommendations, huh?

What a shtty idea that’d be. This belongs in the forums.

  • Pins wear out in these pretty quickly and cause them to spark, just go with the cheap hpm powerboards

      Wrong, the pins are fine

Is this part of black Friday sales?
    How much is it usually?

    • -2

Yet on every occasion Aldi sells their $20 travel adapter as a Special Buy, no markdown, OzB rates this as a deal? I said it's not a markdown and referred it to the mods if they wanna take it down.

      • +2

Aldi special buys are available for a limited time. They may be regular price but posting them here is opportunity to broadcast limited availability. I don’t necessarily agree with them being posted here but I can see the rationale.

These Click units’re part of Bunnings everyday catalogue at regular retail price.

        • Retailers are so smart they can get you to pay more for an equivalent item by making it available for a limited time. I was about to purchase the $20 Amazon Black Friday variant until I searched around. I have no idea of the price history of the Click version, just saying its low-cost which appeals to me and perhaps others.

          • +1

@sumyungguy: There’re all kinds of psychological marketing tricks used by retailers big and small to dupe consumers into paying more than they need to. Just because you discovered yourself being drawn in before pulling the trigger on a reasonably priced local variant doesn’t make it a bargain.

            • @0jay: I'm happy to defer to the mods to adjudicate what constitutes a bargain. However you should note that under voting guidelines, negative = The deal is not the cheapest available. Show me then a cheaper 2-outlet powerboard with 4.5A of USB outlets.

              • +1

@sumyungguy: Brother, you have a fair argument re it being a mod’s call. Citing guidelines re my neg however would suggest that anyone can post anything at normal price provided there is no cheaper alternative at time of posting. I’m not down for the shitstorm of mediocrity that interpretation of OzB rules would bring about.

You can report me for inappropriate neg if that floats your boat but I stand by it 100%

                • -1

@0jay: I'm not one of those people. But please, post a link to a cheaper 2-outlet powerboard with four USB (4.5A) outlets.

                  • @sumyungguy:

                  • @sumyungguy: Also this is 4.5A shared across all the outlets, not each.

At most you're able to get 15w (@ 5V) from the USB-C port, which won't charge a laptop (and leaves 0.5A if using the other 3 ports too).

              • +3

@sumyungguy: you're acting like the retailer now and being disingenuous. "4.5A total" means only ~1.1A per port or a max output of 3A on the usb c port (as per the photo). it doesn't state anywhere that a single USB A can even reach 2~2.4A which is what modern high powered devices like ipads need.

                • @[Deactivated]: I did say 4.5A of USB outlets, meaning total. And I do know this isn't great, but typical for this class of product. And no, I don't own any power boards that can charge a notebook, let alone power my Homepod minis. I'm not telling you to buy it, so why so much hate about it being posted? Just look away…

                  • -1

@sumyungguy: what don't you understand the 4.5A is misleading. at best it's 4x 1amp usb ports (which is useless for today's devices) or a single 3amp usb which is no better than your standard free fast charger everyone has from a previous device.

  • +1

I have one of these double sided taped to my bedside table. Means I don't have to get down behind the bedboard to plug something in. And no one can pinch my charger. Not my kids, not my wife. Works a treat!

  • Great for Christmas lights, thanks!

  • +1

Given that the S23 fully charges from dead flat in just over 2 hours on a 10w charger (according to Android authority) I think all the moaning might be a bit much. 2 people could charge phones and earphones overnight no worries. Probably not unreasonable to think most people sleep for more than 2 hours a night. Half the motels around don't have a outlet where you want it so a 2 port with some USBs on the end of an extension is a pretty great idea. If I need to charge my laptop I'll just plug in my laptop charger…

Also i would define a bargain as a product at a good price. Doesn't need to be price jacked then discounted for it to be a deal. I'd argue that this is more of a bargain than half the overpriced rubbish on here that's been discounted 10%…

  • +3

    RRP. Nuff said…

  • Just a heads up.

I grabbed a product called Click "2x Outlet Travel Kit" from Bunnings Clyde North for $10 which looks like this (but in black) but has 2x USB's and 2x USB-C's with 1 specifically having PD3.0. It was listed as an RRP of $20 on the docket but on special.. 🤷‍♂️ I don't know how it'd have an RRP of $20 with a dedicated PD3 port.

Will provide more details if people are interested as it's not listed on Bunnings website and I can't even find the exact product with a quick google search.. Might even go for a ride later and snap up a photo to post up here.
