Attractive kitchen knife sets in German W.1-4028 stainless steel Hardness 53HRC

Nice of them to actually tell us exactly what it is that makes them bad :)

    • +1

53HRC hardness rating is economy/budget steel above 56 is good

w.1-4028 is classification number in german

Buck knife actually reduced their hardness for sharpening and maintenance

53HRC hardness rating is economy/budget steel above 56 is good

        53HRC is rubbish tier.

If you only have a budget of $50 then you'd be hard-pressed to find anything that's better than the $49 IKEA 365+ 3-piece set

w.1-4028 is classification number in german

In Germany they classify 1.4028 as X30Cr13.

          • @toan duong: I did. Is there a specific part that's meant to be relevant?

            • @HomeAlone: not a professional chef

              • @toan duong: I honestly have no idea what you're trying to say. Maybe if you used more words that would help?

                • -1

@HomeAlone: a professional chef would not be on OzBargain. People buying are homemakers

                  • +1

@toan duong: The $49 IKEA set I linked to isn't aimed at professionals. It's a budget set that performs better than anything else you can get with a $50 budget.

Spend $49 or $79 on one or two good knives

Sorry, unrelated but someone else (possibly you) posted about some Heston Everdures last week but got deleted within half an hour because I guess there was an issue where Amazon wasn't allowing delivery once you tried to check out.

Just wanted to let others know they became deliverable like, that night or the next day. I kept checking it to see if I could put it through and it eventually let me within that day or next from that post.

Shoutout to OP for that, I grabbed 2 nice blades for like 75% RRP.

  • Had these ages ago, pretty crap. You could spend that much and get a mercer or a maybe a zwilling.

Knives fall into the category where RRP is grossly inflated so it seems like you are getting a good deal. don’t be fooled by any homeware shop that has $800 knive sets going for $100.

If you don’t want to spend hundreds on knives but still want quality for a very economical price, and I mean very economical, purchase on eBay or Amazon a set of Kiwi knives. They are nothing special, but get the job done and sharpen reasonably well.

If you want to go up in quality, take a look at Victorinox, Mercer, Zwilling, and Wusthof. These knife brands vary from about mid sixties to hundreds of dollars each. Realistically, if you’re not a chef, you can get away with using any of these for the rest of your life. Just keep on top of sharpening and maintenance.

If you like burning money, but want an incredibly well-made knife get a Shun. Not as hard as the German stuff, but they cut incredibly well and sharpen to razor blade levels.
