I was using both as recently as Sunday. Admittedly, I exclusively use them with the 4ah battery which gives them way more grunt. The blower does what it needs to. I haven't used another brand to compare, but it totally satiates the simple cleaning of paths/gutters for me.
I'd almost argue that the whipper snipper needs the bigger battery to be worthwhile. Again, I haven't used another branded battery one to compare it to but it gets the job done eventually. It's not even close to the same league as a petrol line trimmer but is super light and convenient to use for me. Not having to fk around with cord is handy, the clip on bits last quite a while in my experience. For basic use I think $100 for the pair is pretty decent

Unless ozito has quality issues, a 4ah battery shouldn't add more 'grunt', just longer battery life.

        • +6

Larger batteries are able to provide more current hence more grunt! Especially when you are using the trimmer on thick lawn/sides.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yeah okay, that surprises me, but seems you guys are correct (and I watch a youtube video where some guy tested several batteries for power tools).

I don't seem to see any difference between my 3Ah and 6Ah batteries with my Makita 18V tools

            • +1

@idonotknowwhy: Those are smaller tools. You will see more difference in larger tools like blowers, lawn mowers, angle grinders etc. In fact, ryobi recommends using 2 batteries on lawn mowers not just for extra runtime, but also for higher power on dense grass.

            • +1

@idonotknowwhy: Old man went to Consumer affairs regarding a Milwaukee impact driver with 'x' amount of torque on the box. It came with a 3Ah battery that only delivered 60% of the torque. Milwaukee were forced to send him a 5Ah battery (off memory) to achieve the rated torque.

The grass trimmer is horrible, dontttttttttttttttttttttttttt buy it.
I had to buy another one because the blades keep detaching off the handle.

      • +3

True, I refunded mine and bought Bosch from Amazon $70 black Friday sale. https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09LM6MSGQ/ref=ppx_yo_d…

No that easy for Bunnings to process my refund, so many questions they asked even they called the store manager to approve my refund LOL, happy to buy from Amazon for easy return and refund.

        I'm happy with mine.

        • mate the one in the deal isn't the same as yours.

          • @CR-7: They are the same, I modified.

            • @jimojr: Does it make a big difference with performance? I might do the same if so. The hack with the twisted metal wire + line hardly works for me.

        • Jim, whats the head that u r using? Where do u get it?

          • +2

@rac: You can get one on eBay for about $13.

Must have got a dud batch of blades. I've had two of the trimmers (used for clearing 600m2 + blocks. Can do the whole block with one blade. Pure wizardry. My new favourite tool (which used to be a Hilti SDS).
This little Ozito blew my mind. I do use it with a 4ah battery, and use a mix of the blades and line (just loop it through the eye or 3D print a line spool).
        * Just read the other comments. I'm still using the blades from my first trimmer in 2018. Wonder if the new blades aren't as good. Will try and report back.

I have about 18 Ozito cordless power tools and the whipper snipper with the blades is my only regret. YMMV but I had problems with blades flying off whenever they hit something solid and wore fairly quickly when trimming grass along hard surfaces e.g. fences and brick/stone garden edges, which is what I want a whipper snipper for. I ended up donating to recycle centre at the local tip and bought the Ozito line trimmer instead. The latter is more expensive but heaps better IMO.

    • trimmer blade snaps within first few minutes… common experience apparently after looking at Ozito user FB groups…

i've been told to use the Bosch ones, i bought them, haven't tested.

blower is weak… maybe good to blow grass trimming but weak for dried leaves… havent tried it, maybe in autumn i can test it better…

apparently Ozito has a jet blower variant that uses 2x4.0ah batteries… that one has brushless motor and the reviews have been good…

      • Are those with genuine blades?

I had that experience with blades I got from ebay. They aren't made with enough plasticizer, so they are too stiff. Fine if your going through straight grass, but they shatter as soon as they hit an immovable object.

        • My experience with original blades that came with the snipper is same as the other guy: terrible, snapping into pieces and flying off

          • @DiscountForThee: Very strange. I used the original blades, then I bought replacements from bunnings. In both cases they were liable to grind down if you used them wrong (got too close to bricks, pavement etc), and they sometimes fly off, but they never shatter like the cheap ebay ones do.

I bought mine in 2020 though. Its possible the recipe has changed.

    • I have the trimmer, does the job well and its definitely inferior to line trimmers. Sometimes the blades come off and also as the blades shorten, the balancing changes and the trimmer vibrates a lot. Eates through the blades fast, but I read somewhere that soaking the blade in water overnight reduces this effect.

I have the grass trimmer and it is decent, as long as you can get your hands on those cheap blades on ebay. You go through them a bit, and I have a 4.5 battery, which is necessary as my yard had about 140m of just edging. No comment on the blower as I bought just the trimmer.

    • The blower might scare a cat but the dogs think they are personal fans

    • I own the trimmer and tend to somewhat agree with this statement. It does work if you hold it in a certain angle though, seems to do the job for the price.

      • Honestly this is the supporting reason not to get this one. For just a bit more, you can get one that doesn't need to be "held in a certain angle" in order to work.

        • +1

yea fair comment. i did however got it for very cheap along with the hedge trimmer so cant complain

    • Ah, never thought of searching ebay for that. Hows the ebay blade quality? Do they snap faster?

  • anyone found a decent cheap alternative plastic blades for the trimmer? there are tons on ebay but wonder if they are all from the same supplier?

  • I was looking at something for my mum, who has probably 150m of edging, and was looking at https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-one-18v-25-30cm-cordless-l….

    Has anyone experience?

I've got the Greenworks 60v myself, as part of https://www.greenworksaustralia.com/product/ultimate_startup… which is overkill for her needs, so looking for something suitable.

At $99 with the battery is a no brainer… I've got it and use it often. As I'm not very skilled with the edge trimmer, I go through a couple of the plastic blades every time I use it. The blower could use more power, perhaps using it with the 4Ah battery would be better.

  • Bought this on the weekend, definitely gets the job done. Battery out of the box managed to power me through tidy up of my 36m2 townhouse yard.

  • Bought the kit (+hedger) a month ago and have used it once. I think it'll do the job for small-mediumish areas but def no comparison to the proper/petrol ones. They do feel like toys. Pretty sure I'll be upgrading but testing out what these things can do to my lawn.

  • +2

I've used the Ryobi which has the 'fishing wire' as blades and can be retracted with a push of a button, I think that's a better experience than the separate plastic blade design the Ozito has

Waiting for the $149 36V blower to go on deal

    • Same here.

Grass trimmer is s###. The blower is at the bottom of the range. Will not blow any more than grass clippings.

    • What else would you use the blower for if not grass clippings?

      • Leaf, general derby, sand. While I mean grass clippings, it must be done multiple times. It really is a glorified shop blower.

    • Agree 100%

Good luck with the grass trimmer LOL

It's actually amazing. I have a Makita and Ryobi 2 stroke. The petrol trimmer is better for large area grass trimming, but the ozito is better for thick trunk weeds. Bizarrely, the ozito does the solid stuff, then the petrol does the thinner grass areas in bulk faster. The line trimmer whips at the weeds before eventually cutting. Ozito just slices it in half. Look at the famous you tube clip.

this doesnt exactly look 'heavy duty'….

  • Just dont waste your $99 on this one. Add little bit extra you can buy brushless one. It’s better investment.

    • Yes, just this comes with the battery and the blower. The extra $16 isn’t bad for the battery that I can use on a drill etc

  • +1

I grabbed one yesterday to use with a derusting wheel but thought I’d try it out and see just how bad it is while I wait for a left hand nut to be delivered to attach the wheel.

The blower is terrible, no wonder they give it away, but I have the 36V jet blower which is fantastic so I wasn’t too fussed about this blower anyway

The whipper snipper is actually decent. I used it with a 4ah battery (will just use he one in the box for a cordless drill), it did the back yard before a blade broke but I was pushing it hard against a planter that breaks plenty of nylon lines too. It cut through the overgrown grass brilliantly I was surprised and impressed.

Overall I used it on a 800m2 block to do all the paths, paving, and edges and it was fantastic for its size. The only reason I wouldn’t use it as my main whipper snippet for this size of a job is the ergonomics aren’t great but that’s all to do with my height and manoeuvrability so YMMV. But on a smaller block or for someone who takes better care of their yard and doesn’t let it get to the overgrown state mine was in, it’s great

My only concern would be longevity but with easy warranty returns at Bunnings I’m not too worried
