Thank you very much OP, as always, for your efforts in providing us with these books 🙏😊

    1984 👍

Brave New World was a far more accurate vision of the future, yet people froth over 1984 as the prophecy. Maybe people prefer the more inherently oppressive narrative. Maybe people find it easier to say Orwell than Huxley, or George instead of Aldous.

Here's a few good good Orwell quotations for you: "Particularly on the Left, political thought is a sort of masturbation fantasy in which the world of facts hardly matters."

"During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act."

"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever"

George Orwell was deeply hostile to vegetarianism. Vegetarians were of ‘that dreary tribe of high-minded women and sandal-wearers and bearded fruit-juice drinkers who come flocking to the smell of “progress” like bluebottles to a dead cat’.

Brave New World, the book that has the government sterilise 70% of the female population, run a single World State and breeds children in predetermined classes via artificial wombs is more accurate than a 1984 dystopian view of the government using surveillance and the media to control independent thought?

Orwell told us we would have CCTV everywhere and leaders who redefine the truth via "alternate facts" and you figure the forced breeding program book is the truly spicy take on the 2020's?

      • I suppose that sounded profound when you first thought of it, though we can all play to extremes in order to try and discredit somebody's argument. How, I might ask, could 1984 be an accurate prediction of the times when the government doesn't actively torture people into accepting its truth? How could 1984 be considered even remotely close to being a vision of the future when we don't live in fear of the next person on the street denouncing us to an all-powerful authority? How, when we know it has not happened, could we begin to think that thoughtcrime was an accurate prediction of the future to come?

Brave New World was more accurate a prediction of the future than 1984 because it accurately predicted how we feed off distraction and escapism. Huxley's vision of the future predicts a world where peoples lives are consumed by substance and media, where relationships are broadly shallow and consumerism is the driving force in the world. This, above all, was a wholly sound prediction of where the world would be 90 years after it was published. Soma is our social media, our streaming services, our apps. It has caused the gradual destruction of community, before our eyes but outside our attentions.

You can try to argue the fanciful futuristic technological predictions, such as predetermining class and the use of artificial wombs were science fiction - but was not also Wilson's permanent state of surveillance, even in his own bedroom - even in his own diary?

My argument was not that 1984 was not a good prediction of elements of our future society. It was, and it is a good warning. My argument is Brave New World is a better prediction. This, I think, is established in the above.

"it predicted people like distraction and escapism"

Oh wow, what an ahead of its time insight, are you sure it wasn't written by Nostradamus because that thing is BANG ON

The only person here trying to sound profound was you with your "well acksually Brave New World is the accurate vision" hipster take

Mid take on a mid book. 4/10

          • @Crow K: Sorry, my mistake. I didn't realise I was debating with a child. Have a good one.

I re-read 1984 recently and was thoroughly unimpressed. Stuff, boring, simplistic and heavy-handed. Felt more like cult fiction than some literary masterpiece.

Orwell's earlier works are a lot more enjoyable.

    thank you

  • Where are the "free book" neggers?
Or do they only neg books that don't fit with hasbara propaganda like all the previous "book burners" in history?

    • You could be that hero, all it take is a click.

    • Having opened a few of these, I'd say there's no positive vote from me. Just a load of wiffly rubbish scraped from Web pages, some fluff and 1984.

Id say they're free for a reason.

Hey thanks for posting, maybe there's something inhere to transform your life, something that you couldn't be bothered to look on the Web for…
