  • Sorry to ask. Does V12 also has the this accessory… hard to find it.

    • no

    • No, the submarine head is exclusive to this model only at this point

    • +5

      Yes and no.

The Yes, is that there is a v12 submarine currently in overseas markets (south-east Asia).

The No, is that the v15 submarine head does not work with existing v15s and the v12 submarine head does not work with existing v12s. The reason is due to the software in existing v12s and v15s not knowing how to deal with the attachment ie for the submarine head it needs to activate power to the brush but deactivate the suction mode. Those models are programmed to provide power and suction simultaneously.

Sure Dyson could technically update the software on existing models but TBH why would they due to unreasonable time and cost of people taking in the units, them flashing the chips etc. One thing they could do is for future non-submarine models include the new software so people can buy these as accessories down the track, but for current existing users you're SOL.

Also to be fair, the current submarine is 1st gen tech and unfortunately, underwhelming. Fam bought one so tested extensively. I'd wait for gen 2. Till then buy a Tineco, Hizero, Bissell or Karcher and have a device that actually does what you need it to. Plenty of near new ones can be bought for cheap on gumtree/marketplace if cost is an issue.

      • Can you elaborate on Gen 1 issues?

        • Lots of youtube video's on it - same stuff, water splashing out of resvoir due to not being able to see in it, often needing multiple passes to clean, need to prevacuum dusty floors otherwise doesn't clean as well, and most importantly having extremely realistic expectations of what it can do and not being confused by the marketing material which suggests it can clean kids small food spills like cereal - it can't - anything bigger than rice grains cant get pulled into the head. At this point it's just a simple power mop - which if that's your use case - you will love it, especially at $894. If you can get a hold of Dyson get them to price match and then you have 45 days to try it for yourself!

        • I checked it out in-store and found :

          • small water reservoir, probably won't last a decent room without having to refill 2-3x
          • wets the area / roller
          • does NOT suck the dirty water into second reservoir
          • the wet roller head can't be washed separately or in the washing machine, you'll need to try and wash the roller surface by hand
          • the wet roller head can be detached, but ? can't get a replacement

So you are effectively using the same roller to push dirty water around the room.
I then thought I could do better with a cheaper Dyson fluffy head (on say my V6) and a spray gun to spray water on the floor

Dont ever do this. If the water gets sucked into the unit it will be cooked.

@ccrap: Hah I know. I wouldn't, but you know what I mean. That's essentially what the Submarine was doing.

Luckily I have a couple of Roomba brava mops.

      • "Tineco, Hizero, Bissell or Karcher"

For someone who never mops and needs something with grunt (but still safe for hardwood floors), any idea of the one to get?

        • +1

what kind of stuff you need to clean - pets? kids?

          • @ccrap: Kids. No pets. It's mostly that we don't mop, so must be pretty yuck by now

            • +1

@justtoreply: All would be good, but given hardwood maybe steer clear of any with steam. Maybe Karcher f5 or Tineco ifloor3. I've got the former, does a great job and comes in cordless and corded versions. You can pick up good condition second had ones for cheap if unsure. That way you can test them out before committing to a new one if you need it to be new. Don't overpay and you won't lose much, if anything on resale.

      • shamelessly hijacking because you seem very knowledgeable.
What would you recommend as a bit of an investment for a you couple living in an all lino house? Tossing a decent dyson vacuum and a cheapo mop but hard to tell if it's worth the hype.

        • To be honest, depends on so many things - on the couple, your subjective 'messiness', your personal value on convenience, the size of your place, flooring type, frequency of your cleaning regiment etc.

EG if you're a young couple without pets and kids, pretty clean, vacuum regularly, and don't need the convenience of a stick vac, then one of the many Miele/Bosch corded bigger unit deals on here will be fine for you.

But if you any of the above is different, you need to spot clean from time to time, or just want the convenience of a stick vacuum/dont want to bother with the cumbersomeness of a bigger full-size vacuum, then a stick vacuum will serve you well.

Now for the stick vacuums, have tried a fair few, but the best (and currently owned) are Dysons. They really do a fantastic job and are well worth the investment. Which model really depends on your budget and the above variables - the higher the model the better, but don't go below V8 in terms of model spec and don't go over $1,000 in terms of pricepoint. Everything else within that range will be great. Search past deals and let the deal votes be your guide as to whether a particular model is good at that price point.

Re the mops, again depends on above variables + total area of hard flooring. If not much, just get one of those Vileda OzB fav manual mops and save your cash. If big areas or need to be done regularly, I'd suggest trying out some models for cheap on the second hand market to see if they suit before spending big bucks on electronic 'mops'

          Hope that helps!

            Hope that helps!

            That does, a lot!
Thanks for taking the time :)

  • can pay with giftcard from shopback for further saving

  • God damn! Thanks OP

Returning the one i got from dyson offical shop

  • Too bad not the complete package

  • Is this better than the outsize complete which is a v11?

  • +2

Got the complete one from dyson the other week, so good. Not sure how the heads from this one compare, I believe the hard floor brush is superior with the complete which is why I got that one.

    • Yes i thought about this, becuase i got the same thing, but @1097 vs 820ish with cashback..not sure if the complete is worth it.

      • CREWARD5 cuts 5%, and then any cashback available from Dyson. They had 10% during the weekend, but 5% atm brings it under $1k.

For a stand, and the extra fluffy head, well worth the extra from my end. The stand can hold all heads - and is only available via. Dyson official website.

        • +1

Ahh you ozb it like a legend… newb here paid the full discount price

  • damn wasn't this $1097 like last week and it got alot of upvotes? does that have more heads?

    • I think that was complete - came with flook dok, laser head and couple other things

  • Interesting. Not sure if I should get this or gen5 detect refurb from previous deal.

    • +1

Gen5 has the on/off button and the optic head, vs. a trigger and a submarine head (no optic head) in this one if that helps :)

      • +1

Thank you mate. After thorough research, I decided to stick with gen5 detect.
