  • What's the maximum (variable) value that can be loaded onto a card?

  • Just in time for Black Friday!

  • This offer is almost persistent

    • Resistance is futile

  • +6

Beware! If you buy variable load GC's you can't split them over multiple transactions and still get the rewards points. The problem with this is, some stores (like my local) have a policy where they will not process more than $1000 of GC's in a single transaction.

In this case if you want to get more than $1000 of variable load GC's you have to make a single transaction each day over multiple days to get the rewards points.

    • +1

I applaud your generosity… giving thousands in Apple Gift Cards as gifts!

      • +2

The recipient was very pleased! Also the new 15" Macbook Air is a very nice bit of gear.

        Or so I hear…

    • If they don't process more than $1000 worth of GC's in a single transaction, can you purchase more GC in a separate transaction in the same store or even do it in another store? Your comments sound like you can only get EDR points in one transaction per day. Can you please clarify? I am going to buy around $2000 GCs for an iPhone. Thanks.

      • +1

I contacted the rewards support team and they said that you can do one transaction of variable load GC's per day, so you could do $1k one day, $1k the next day and so on. If you did one transaction at one store then go to another store on the same day and make another transaction, you wouldn't get the 20x points on the second transaction because it was on the same day.

Don't ask me why they do this, it seems ridiculous to me.

        • Thanks for clarifying this. Didn't know there was a restriction of one transaction per day with WWS. I have purchased GCs in multiple transactions at Coles and didn't have issues collecting rewards FB points in the past. I will check my local WWS (Crows Nest NSW) before purchasing.

          • +1

            @zn7726:

Didn't know there was a restriction of one transaction per day with WWS.

Only for the variable load GC's, the fixed amount cards can be bought over multiple transactions on a single day and each transaction will get the 20x rewards points.

So you can do 5x $200 GC's in one transaction, and another 5x $200 GC's in a second transaction and both will get 20x rewards points. If however you do 2x $500 variable load GC's then another 2x $500 in the same day, only the first transaction will get 20x rewards.

I have no idea why they do this.

    • Is that an individual store limit policy? Could I go to 2 separate stores and get $1000 each?

      • Yes it is an individual store policy, the rewards support team suggested I find a store that doesn't have this policy. Seems ridiculous that individual stores can make up their own rules like this.

You can't go to 2 different stores on the same day and get 20x rewards on both transactions, only the first transaction. You can get around it by doing one transaction a day over multiple days. I know this for a fact because I did 3 transactions on the same day and didn't get any points at all for the 2nd & 3rd transactions - had to hassle the support team to get the points and they only did it begrudgingly. Note this limit only applies to variable load GC's, the fixed amount GC's can be split over multiple transactions on the same day.

    • The terms and conditions in this boost are different:

How it works: You do not need to boost this offer. To collect 20x points on Apple Gift Cards, purchase any Qualifying Gift Cards in-store and scan your Everyday Rewards Card before completing your transaction.

Qualifying Gift Cards: For $20, $30, $50, $100 and $200 Apple Gift Cards with a fixed value, limit of 10 cards per Everyday Rewards member (can be done across multiple transactions).

For $20-$500 variable Apple Gift Cards where you choose the amount to load, limit of 10 cards per day per Everyday Rewards member in a single transaction applies.

      Everyday Rewards bonus points breakdown as follows: $20 = 400, $30 = 600, $50 = 1000, $100 = 2000, $200 = 4000 Variable $20-$500 Gift Card $1 spend = 20x Everyday Reward points.

      • The terms and conditions in this boost are different:

No, they describe exactly what I have been saying:

For $20-$500 variable Apple Gift Cards where you choose the amount to load, limit of 10 cards per day per Everyday Rewards member in a single transaction applies.

As I've been saying, you can only make one transaction of variable load GC's per day and receive 20x rewards points. The T&C's don't mention that some stores have a $1000 limit on GC purchases in a single transaction, meaning that in practice you can only buy 2x $500 variable load GC's per day if your local store (like mine) has this policy.

        • Got it! Luckily our store doesn't set the 1k limit. Got > $1k variable load + fixed value and points reflected correctly on screen and docket.

          • @limaecho: Oh, so you can see the points to be rewarded on the checkout screen before paying? that's great.

            • @zn7726: Yes indeed I went to the counter that is not self serve and when they scanned at the bottom of the screen it shows the reward points.

Also to confirm the $ rewards were showing in my account within an hour.

          • @limaecho: Good stuff, I'm going to try a different store myself this time.

  • Now should I get the watch SE with $80 gift card now or buy this and hope there's a sale…

    • +3

If only you could tell if the time is right, but one needs an Apple Watch for that

  • Can these be used to purchase AppleCare+ for a new iPhone just bought from Amazon? ( I know within 30d etc)

    • Think they have changed it - it gets debited from your CC even if you have a gift card bal

    • If you use monthly AppleCare+ plan you can load it to your Apple account and use your account balance.
However, if you want to purchase a two-year coverage outright, you have to go into an apple store and use the gift card instore to pay for that.
Weird policy but it is what it is….

      • +2

If you use monthly AppleCare+ plan you can load it to your Apple account and use your account balance.

You can’t do this as of September

        • correct. I got screwed over by this change. I now get several little credit card charges every month grrr

    • you can at an Apple store.

  • I'm guessing the answer is no, but can I use my monthly Rewards 10% discount when buying these?

  • Can you use the Gift Card in the Apple education store?

    • Why not?

    • +1

      You certainly can.

    Warning:

Before you buy, please read the "warning" posts in here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/808193

I was a victim of the fraud, so please read that.

So basically the cards get taken and put back on the shelves, and then the their waits for the card to be purchased (and therefore activated) and uses it? How would they know when that happens? Aren’t the null until paid for ? I’m confused.

      • Yes, they wait until they are activated… maybe they check every day… that just takes 30 sec to check.

Anyways, be careful… luckily I got my money back through serious follow up and via Coles Customer Care.

        • +4

So better idea is to load the balance in your apple account from the gift card, right after the purchase.

      • they would have scratched the card off first and put another scratchy thing on top yeah?

    • Out of curiosity, do you think this type of issue can be negated if you purchase the variable load card?

      • +1

        Mine was a variable one… $500.
Whatever you load into the card, the theft will benefit that :)

    • Thanks for the heads-up, @mkowarkski.

    • This needs to be in the deal post, IMO.

  • Can anyone explain what variable load is? I'm looking to buy a MacBook air.

    • +1

Apple gift cards are available in a “variable load” denomination at Woolworths (and some other retailers), where you can choose the amount loaded onto the gift card between $20 and $500.

For example, if you want to load $420 onto a single Apple gift card, you can do that with the variable load denomination.

Im a samsung guy now. So long. Cook.

    • +1

So glad you shared this news with us all.

    • I'll miss you.

  • Can the GCs be used on Apple refurbished do we know?

    • Yes.

  • What is the reward point equivalent to $10? Like 2000 flybuys points is worth $10 at Coles

    • +1

Yes. 2000 points = $10 off your shop

  • Make sure to verify that your receipt accurately reflects the acceptance of your EDR. A staff member at the self-check-in machine assisted me in utilizing the EDR card in merchant mode for a purchase exceeding 5 GC. Despite this, the receipt did not display the EDR. I promptly reported the issue to Customer Support when the points failed to appear within the specified timeframe indicated on the Woolies site. Unfortunately, Woolies did not honor the request, stating it was too late to add the points. Extremely frustrated.

    • That sucks :(

Why didn’t you split up your purchase instead of buying > 5 in one transaction? Maybe because the staff member processed your transaction in ‘manager mode’, it made the EDR card to not scan?

      • I scanned at first, thinking that if the machine were in manager mode, it would allow more than 5 GC with EDR. I think the staff made a mistake, but I had to pay for it.

  • A few questions before I buy these….
    1. Can you use a credit card to pay these ie get credit card points and get everyday reward points?
    2. Will the Apple store accept multiple gift cards, for example I want to buy an iPhone 15 Pro and it's $1849, can I use 3x$500 and 1x$349 to pay them?

    • +1
      1. Yes
      2. Yes
    • +2

you can also load each card into your apple account's balance, and then it doesn't matter how many cards you use - it's all just a sum of money.

It also seems prudent to load them onto your account immediately after purchase so you can make sure they activated and were activated properly onto the cards you have (and not either glitched out or some scammer holding the cards that match your outer packaging barcode)

      • +1

Only thing is that if you load it up to Apple account balance, you can only use it online or through phone and not in store. While with the physical card you can use it in store.

        • what about "pickup in store" ? I thought Apple also did/does a thing where you'd buy on the app, then just show the people at the door the receipt when you leave.

        • I am not able to find the option to pay via apple account balance

  • can you pay using wish gift card? probably not :)

    • gave it a try today, doesn't work :)

  • -2

Great, now I can get some reward for paying my tax debt.

  • Can we use current Everyday Rewards Points to pay for the Apple Gift Cards? Wonder if anyone tried.

    • +2

Yes you can. I did it last time they had the promo. Bought 2 x gift cards on the 1st day and received the bonus edr points straight away. Then the next day bought another 2 and the staff asked if I wanted to use the points during check out, which I did.

      • +1

        thanks a lot mate!

    • +1

Just want to let other know that we can't use the rewards dollars to pay for the Apple Gift Cards, tried today and it didn't work.

It's actually mentioned in the T&C page here:
      https://www.woolworthsrewards.com.au/terms.html

      1. On what purchase can I not enjoy my balance?

Everyday Rewards dollars cannot be enjoyed on purchases made in-store or online at a Redemption Business for all smoking products, gift cards (including Woolworths WISH Gift Cards, e-gift cards and iTunes), mobile recharge, Woolworths Mobile, travel cards, tickets, cash outs, delivery charges (except for purchases made on MyDeal), donations, lottery products, Carpet Care, Pre-Order Kiosks, BIG W Photos, BIG W eBay, lay-by-fees and purchases using an AmpolCard, a Country Age Pension Fuel Card or on a charge account.

  • Can we pay for the Apple Gift Card using Woolies gift card? Is the reward points calculated based on the total receipt amount?

    • gave it a try today, doesn't work :)

  • Why Rewards app offers this as Boost? Wonder if I do, does that mean my rewards points would really take up to 14 days to appear while scanning Rewards card in store always shows bonus points almost instantly.

    • +1

Saw that as well this morning. I clicked that anyway :D

However, it says, "You do not need to boost this offer". Just need to make sure you've scanned the rewards card. I also feel like this just adds confusion.

Perhaps those who have purchased could confirm whether they see the reward points immediately.

  • -3

can anyone confirm this is legit? any documentation online ? i called rewards support and they advised there is no such thing, unless i got put onto a noob?

  • Looking at all the gift card scams, how can we make sure that the gift cards are not tampered with?

    • +1

There’s a classic Apple seal that is on all Apple products

U just gotta make sure the peel is still there

    • Open the cards at the checkout and confirm that the serial number on the inside matches the one on the outside. If they've done a half decent job with the tampering, it's incredibly hard to tell without opening it.

      • What will happen if it is different? What is Woolworths doing to address this issue?

        • What will happen if it is different?

If they don't match then it means that the code you're paying to activate isn't the one inside your gift card. You won't be able to redeem it.

What is Woolworths doing to address this issue?

I'm not sure. When the news first broke of the tampered cards a few weeks ago some stores pulled all of the Apple cards from sale but others, like the one I went to, stubbornly refused to despite multiple of their own customers falling victim.

          • @VantageXL: Ta, can you open it before paying? And only pay if they match?

            • @snvl: You can but if you open a card and choose not to buy it, be prepared for a lecture by staff.

            • +2

              @snvl: I bought $3900 of gift cards today - 8x variable gift cards: 7x$500 and 1x$400
Explained concerns about scams, the shop attendant had heard about it, and said they received emails instructing them to check.
She opened up all 8 cards for me after purchasing and we confirmed the numbers of the gift cards matched the packaging on the outside, in addition to the receipt
Just added them all to apple account no issues

  • Can someone confirm, if i can buy JB card using apple card or Apple card accepted @ JB? As i found JB price is cheaper for an iPad. (after price match)

    • +1

No, these can only be used at Apple

Get Apple to price match the retailer instead (up to 10% value of the price match only)

      • Thanks Mate. do they price match Amazon?

        • +1

          No, retailers with stores

  • Question for those who know a lot more than me about this stuff.

I’ve got a $1000 work ‘reward’ burning a hole in my pocket from earlier this year, that I can use to ‘purchase’ Woolworths gift cards at a 5% discount. Can I use these Woolworths vouchers to purchase Apple gift cards and get the 20x rewards points?

    • So I had a crack at this, and FYI for others who might be in the same situation this doesn’t work.

You can’t use a Woolworths gift card to buy an Apple gift card.

  • So definitely no need to boost offer?

  • Hi, I've never tried the Everyday Rewards thing on Woolies but if it means I'll be saving a huge amount for my next Apple purchase I'm willing to give it a try. I'm having a bit of trouble understanding how this works. Do I just buy multiple Apple giftcards, and then scan my everyday rewards card at the check out, and then afterwards I get a lot of points which I can redeem to buy more gift cards? Cause I saw someone said that they managed to get a $3100 Mac for just $2700 with this promo.

    • +2

Do I just buy multiple Apple giftcards, and then scan my everyday rewards card at the check out

      Yep.

A few things to keep in mind:

      • The terms and conditions of this deal mentions that you can only earn points on one purchase of variable load Apple gift cards per day, and this limit should be enforced by the checkout. In other words, if you want to do one large purchase of Apple gift cards tomorrow, you will need to do it in one transaction (or purchase some Apple gift cards at Woolworths and then go to BIG W and purchase additional Apple gift cards there, assuming you have a BIG W near you).

      • You may not be able to purchase all the Apple gift cards you want to purchase in one transaction. Different Woolworths staff members operating checkouts have a different gift card purchase approval limit assigned to them (e.g. $500, $1000, $2000). Additionally, some Woolworths staff members have a lower appetite to approve large-value purchases of gift cards than other staff (and that could be for a number of reasons). For example, you may find one store is happy for you to purchase $3,000 in Apple gift cards in one transaction, whereas another store will refuse to sell you more than $1,000.

      • You may want to consider opening up the gift cards to check whether the gift cards have been tampered with, because there has been a worrying spike recently in the number of reports of Apple gift cards that have been tampered. Read these comments above for more info if you have not already.

then afterwards I get a lot of points which I can redeem to buy more gift cards?

You will get a chunk of points (more specifically, 20x points for every $1 you spend on gift cards).

You should not be able to use the points (more specifically, Everyday Rewards Dollars) to pay for gift cards, as that is against the Everyday Rewards terms and conditions, plus I have never seen an option to pay for an Apple gift card with Everyday Rewards Dollars at a Woolworths checkout. Having said that, someone further up said they were able to do that (presumably at a standard checkout operated by a dedicated staff member)…

      • I see! I think people are using the Rewards Dollar to pay for more giftcards as I've seen someone in another thread say that they only had to pay around $2700 worth of giftcards to buy the $3000 M3 Pro. I guess it depends on the staff member.
