Not much of a saving but better than nothing!

    • +5

2.4% off bill payments, I'll take it.

And $1.22 of FlyBuys points I think (244 for $244 spend).

Some may prefer to use spare FlyBuys accounts though so it doesn't effect their grocery spend amount for future offers.

      • +4

$6 saving after using how much time to find a card?

        • +2

Max 5 cards. $6 x 5 = $30 + 1220 FlyBuys points ($6.10) . Not worth going out of your way though if you aren't near or at Coles.

          • +1

@hamza23: agree , in my opinion it's not worth the time and fuel cost unless you happen to be in Coles already. That said it's still a deal so good for people who can buy it with minimal effort.

  • +1

Limit of 5 cards per day per Flybuys account.

So if I have 4 accounts i.e. 20 cards a day and 140 cards during the promo period. This is better than the flybuys points as we can see upfront if we get the discount or not.

    • 140 cards is $35000. Rinse and repeat is over now AFAIK

        • +1

I just roll/inception these cards over one promotion to the next.

Good luck!!! You are more likely to have cards hacked if you park them for so long.
Don't believe me? Read the previous thread on this very topic./

  • +7

    2.4% saving…

    • +1

Probably from now on, less than Activ VISA sale @ Woolworths.

  • +14

    no thank you

  • +3

    Good for ATO payments. Thanks.

    • why do ato payment w these cards? and not ur usual debit or credit card

      • +5

to avoid surcharge and gain credit card points(Amex -> 3 points per $ in super markets)

      • +1

To get an extra 2.4% off, at least

      • Would you not go for a 2.4% tax discount if given the option?

        • Ah so this just cheaper along with… coles points?? sibce it's a coles mastercard ay

        • Won't the ATO charge CC transaction fees of 0.7%? If so, it's a 1.7% saving.

          • +3

@soan papdi: this is domistic mastercard, 0.2% surcharge.

            • @daoddv: 0.20% is for Mastercard Debit (not sure if domestic is relevant) but this coles giftcard is not debit afaict when I read the FAQ.

              https://psc.colesprepaidcards.com.au/faqs says

How do I use my Coles Gift MasterCard or Coles Online MasterCard?
To pay for something at a physical store using your Coles Gift MasterCard, you will need to swipe the card, press 'CR' or 'Credit' and enter your PIN. If you press 'Savings' or 'Cheque', your transaction will be declined.

              Also https://www.governmenteasypay.gov.au/payATO says

              0.72% for Mastercard credit payments

              • +4

@soan papdi: The prepaid gift card in this deal is classified by Mastercard as a prepaid card (not a credit card, not a debit card).

The ATO website does not say the type of surcharge it levies on prepaid Mastercards, but in my experience (and a lot of other OzBargainers' experience), the ATO levies the Mastercard debit (i.e. 0.2%) surcharge on prepaid Mastercards, including Coles Mastercard gift cards.

                https://psc.colesprepaidcards.com.au/faqs

That is the link to the Coles Gift Mastercards that were discontinued in June 2022. That is not relevant to the prepaid gift card in this deal.

              • +1

@soan papdi: Sorry I meant mastercard debit, did not remember the name exactly but they charged me 0.2%

                • +2

@daoddv: It was 0.2% for myself as well. A $249.50 payment incurred a 50c fee.

    • +11

      I would wait for 10% 😂

      • +3

The ATO due date won't wait that long :p

        • what's this ato payment yall talking bout anyway … is that when you earn over 60k?

      • +1

Seems like 10% doesn't come around particularly often. April/May next year, maybe? Wish I could wait that long to the bill!

        • +2

Used to come around like after 3-4 months, idk why this time its so long.

  • +7

Hahahahahahaha too much effort without any reward… No WAY!

  • +14

    not worth the risk

  • is it possible to use these to buy apple gift cards at BIG W on Thursday?

  • +2

what is this now lol. Aldi's promo not looking so bad now aye?

    • bro just wants to advertise his employer 😂

      • +1

        associated isn't employed

        • oops then. My ALDI branch never had those ALDI pocket money cards stocked from Day1. Met the store manager and had a chat. Poor coordination I guess for the roll out.

          • +3

@nsingh21: people were holding out for coles mc cause it was a nuisance to do $25 cards.

            • @Sheng: I agree. I saw this on the linked website on Wed I think, was always wondering why nobody had posted this on OzB, but we never had any written proof of this deal except for DealBot and the trust on FP.

I love the Coles MC, good bargain but it does hurt that its only $6 profit ($13 off - but I'd have put this deal as $6 profit as opposed to $13 off, which is how its being marketed).

              • +1

@nsingh21: Hopefully, 10% comes back for vanilla cards instead. Also that strange about your Aldi didn't get them. My connection to Aldi just had the packs on the tilts to go for people just asked them to wait aside if they were going to buy a lot to not hold up the queue.

                • @Sheng: It was not just my closest ALDI branch that didn't have it. Many others also reported the same happening at their own branches as well.

I couldn't be bothered roaming around to get the ALDI ones primarily because I knew Coles was coming this week and already had hands full with TCN @15% off.

                • +1

@Sheng: Given how Coles have been trying other options on the promo like waiving fees entirely, and cutting the discounts short from 10% to 5% I think and now to 2.4%, I'm not sure if the future has us seeing another 10% off again :-(

With interest rates on the rise, I'd rather keep my money in the bank to earn interest than make a quick discount of 2.4%

  • +5

A pain if your card comes "used" by hackers. Tough work to chase up. Not sure if worth the risk this time.

  • +4

Cost more in fuel to drive there and get the Mastercards then the overall savings of paying some upcoming bills with it… And that's if the funds are there when you get home and check the balance

  • +1

Only $6 off? Better off $100 card with $10 off

  • another gift card fight coming

    • What fight? With such pitiful discounts, I doubt many will bother.

      • You are wrong…. Even 2000points(10 dollars)last time with purchase fees, still sold out everywhere

  • Does Coles GC work with PayPal?

    • +1

      Coles MC GC, yes.

      • Perfect thanks! These will work well on buying discounted woolies GC then

  • +13

the risk of this card being hack is too high. for 2.4% I would not buy it

Plus if many still purchase this, coles will keep the $13 off as ongoing instead of 10% off

    your thoughts ?

  • +30

TL;DR: Don’t take the $6 off $250 coles master card offer.

From coles perspective, it’s essentially stress-testing customers.

If the sales figures don’t drop too much, why coles as a business should offer 10% off (effectively 7.5% off) everytime?

    • +2

      You are absolutely correct.

      • Unfortunately, some people even buy them without discount, just for no card fee.

  • Stocked up on the 10% discounted Aldi Pocket Money virtual cash MC the last few days. Will see me through for a while.

    • what's your final tally like?

    • I would not swap lol

  • Can I use flybuys dollars to purchase

    • +2

      Nope

      • +2

Gets asked every single time. ;)

Only @WookieMonster has the patience of a saint to answer these n00b questions.

        • +5

To be fair, we were all noobs one time, including me!

  • $6 bux…on $250 spend. Not great.

Posts above say FB points. I didnt think GCs gained FB points?

    • +1

These ones do, base pts only, won't qualify for 5x pts or spend X get X.

      • Ah ok..doesnt count towards bonus spends…thats it.

        Cheers

  • +2

Disappointing deal this time- might still pick up a few just to make CC spend limit and quickly use up for bill payments etc.

  • @WookieMonster - sorry to trouble you again, but I saw this stocked with the Coles MasterCard gift cards at Coles today.

Could you enlighten us how is this card similar/different? If I'm not mistaken, this is the one issued by Indue? and supposedly said to be no longer issued?

    • +3

This is basically the old version/old issuer of the Coles gift Mastercard. A staff member probably found a stack out the back of the store/hidden in the freezer.

The system shouldn't let you buy this as the expiry is to short. Gift cards need to have a minimum 3 years validity.

      • Thanks Steempy. I was wondering the same too and where that suddenly came from. I think hiding in the freezer is too overrated lol.

      • +2

The system shouldn't let you buy this as the expiry is to short.

Another reason the system should not let you buy that gift card is that Indue stopped issuing Coles Gift Mastercards in June 2022.

        • Lol thanks Wookie. I'll ask the staff to get rid of them tomorrow, if its still there when I go to grab some more TCN…creates some space for more cards for this promo!

  • +4

I don’t get out of bed for less than 5% profit

  • +2

Instead of running the regular 10%, Coles seems to go with ~5% off, but being careful with how they word the Promo. Definitely testing the waters to see what the uplift would be compared to 10% off.

  • +1

A hard pass from me, not worth the time/effort for $36 saving per purchase.

Happy to play the games/run the risk for $93.5 each purchase

Highly recommend people give these a miss or we will never see the 10% agian

  • +4

This offer is worse the 2000pts offer because of fixed amount discount on high value card.
i.e 2x $250 only save you $12 when with that $500 you can buy 5x $100 card in the 2000pts offer which you can save $25

  • +4

Scraping the bottom of the barrel. Being a quality tight ass is about effort to reward ratio.

  • +2

Last weeks :) 100$ card at 90$ with 5$ card fee so essentially 95$. This current offer of 244$ for 250$ card (inclusive of 7$ fee) stinks!

  • Just not worth the effort with physical card.

  • +2

Not worth the effort and time, hope others follow suit to shove it up Coles until we get the normal deal back!

  • +4

Discount needs to be higher to justify the known occurrence of these cards being hacked

  • +1

swipe your fully registered Flybuys card

No more using temporary paper cards from the checkout.

  • +2

These deals have gotten worse since they were forced to reinstate use of these cards at the ATO.

    • It is not hard to revamp to another card with new T&C's, like Only One to Activ.

      • These things take time. I'm sure it's already in the pipeline.

  • +2

All these people saying not to take up the deal to send Coles a message.

My guess is they'll be cleared out within an hour or two, like normal.

    • +2

Hence why we ask fellow ozbargainers to ignore this deal, it’s essentially 2.4% discount, with the risk of cards being hacked, physically going to buy the card and having to check balance. For a mere 2.4% from a drop of 7.5% previous, Coles can stick it if they think these will sell as quick

    • +1

It's up to each individual to buy them and yes there would be many. I guess what many Ozbargainers here are trying to point out is, it's not worth the given the risk-reward factor and effort spent hunting for them.

    • I rate within the first hour; if you're in my area, 2 days before the promo begins.

  • +5

Not worth the effort, the discount is very small and there is a chance of being hacked. I have has three cards hacked and it took over 4 months and many hours of phone (and constant verification through multiple levels) to obtain a refund for two

    • @chrometophobic Sorry to hear. That's disappointing they didn't refund the third card after all that effort. They must know by the number of complaints that their cards are easily hacked

    • I got my replacement card in 3 weeks!

      • +1

That would be a record! Thought they needed time to investigate the fraudulent purchase.
My hacked credit card took 3 months to get the refund and I had to chase it up

        • To be honest, I don't really trust the credibility of the dispute process. Maybe for smaller transactions, e.g. $100 card - the resolution is faster. Also helps if the fraud is obvious, e.g. foreign website, foreign IP used, etc.

      • Was this recent? I have one that I filed last June and still chasing now. I tried calling their number on the website +61 (07) 5660 6022 but it’s been saying “Not accepting calls at the moment” for a couple of weeks now :(

        • +1

I just called the number you typed above and it worked fine. Maybe they blocked your number due to security (perhaps). Can using someone else's phone.
