  • How does this compare to Plex Amp?

Great question. Longplay has a couple of unique features, though it's quite opinionated.

It let's you explore your albums by different metrics, like how much you've listed to an album, when you've last listened to most of it, when you've added it to the library, and how neglected it is (considers ratings and last listened time of each track).

You can group albums into collections. And it has an infinite album shuffle where it keeps playing a new album by one of these metrics, or a collection. It also has interactive widgets from your home screen including Stand By mode.

It doesn't work with a Plex library though, but I've had someone else ask for it previously as well.

Pretty comprehensive review can be found here: https://www.macstories.net/reviews/longplay

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve read the app notes several times and I don’t really understand what the app does. Does it just analyse listening behaviour? I’m a music buff and always looking to enhance the experience, but I really don’t get the purpose of this.

    • It’s like standing in front of your old CD collection brought to the modern day.

It first filters your music library to only show albums where you have most of the tracks. It then shows those as a big grid of album artwork. You can sort those albums by addiction, recency, negligence, etc., and tap them to listen to them.

Purpose is rediscovering forgotten albums, just quickly finding something to play, or listening to one album after another.

      • I swear it makes sense quickly once you see your albums in it! I probably should make the app free-to-try to avoid this confusion up-front… Appreciate the feedback!

        • Thanks for responding, I purchased it to give it a try.

  • Why did you stop rolling out updates for 2 years and just start again recently?

It’s a side project, the 2.0 update required some big under-the-hood changes, and the previous version was very stable. (2.0 was a free update to everyone who purchased the original version.)

      • And you only created this account on OzB to make this post seems abit like a money grab
