300 GB per month ? Who uses that much data, unless you don't have home broadband.

    • Using Telstra 300GB as my home broadband haha throw the SIM in my old Optus router

    • its not about the data, its about getting the full telstra network for $43~ p.m (mathematically), rather than going direct and paying $62 per month @ telstra

      • +1

$1100 JB gift card should not be worth more than $935.

      • Or get Boost Sim for 12 months for less then half that cost.

Why would anyone go for this when even Vodafone long expiry plans are available for 100$ per year ? Of course only with essential mobile data

    • +2

Got this last year with a $1200 gift card, same deal 89 for $300gb.

Reason I got it was that I was looking for a sim and a new MacBook. With GC essentially $39 for 300gb data with fastest telco.

Looking back I regret it now as I’m locked in for another year and payout costs are 1/2 remaining term upfront and pro rata gift card amount.

      • You make a very valid point and example right here above. Short term gain for long term pain. (But I do get the benefit for some who’s finances are right now but may improve longer term?)

      • Just get this one as a new service under your account, then cancel same day and enjoy a free $300 JB credit - of course, you could always wait for the $1400 offer if you're an optimist. Takes the sting out of that extra year ;)

        • Will it work the way you mentioned to cancel on the same day? will JB dont ask to return the full 1100 credit back? I can see in critical information that max early termination costs 800 so I understood your logic of 300 JB credit. But it's a loop hole anybody can take advantage of.

          • +1

@Eswar67: Exactly, most don’t though. If you’re an existing customer and cancel you won’t have to pay first month up front (or ever). If not it’ll be $89 plus $800 approx, so only $211. $1400 GC offer netted existing customers $600 recently. Loop hole will be closed soon I imagine.

@Fancydancer: Excellent, Not aware of it, The 1400 GC offer was a stellar deal then to pocket 600 AUD. Thanks for sharing this awesome hack.

            • @Fancydancer: Don't your credit score rating get affected?

      • yeah it seemed good at the time but i regret mine now especially as i wfh and dont need the data

  • Last time I check they say you can only data pool with a JB plan, if that's the case then these deals are getting worse.

Telstra not for me anyway when my home is sitting between three Telstra cell tower all over 3km….

      That's how you get covid

  • Holding out for a better deal on $69/12 months but I don't think they're coming back.
Should I bite and go for the $500 gc?

    • i dont think this one will ever come back again, the best i have seen in the last 1-2 years is $400

i think this current deal could be quite could if you could get a $20 port in credit applied.

      • I don't either. I had some luck last year on the Telstra app.
I might just pull the trigger and try get the port in credit again

    • Looking at their website, it is 24 months and not 12 months?

      • It is 24, 12 seems to have gone.

  • +1

24 months is a long time

Compare to 360months mortgage is short , but I still won’t join

        You're comparing apples to steak

  • Is this plan eligible for data share?

  • Most stuff had better prices before BF at JB, they were given $1400 as a GC just a few days/before BF.

This weekend a lot of stuff were normal price or very small reduction, what a scam.

    • $9924 - $1400= net of $976
      $89
      24- $1100= net of $1136.

dang you are right, JB/Telstra tricking us

      • Not sure about your figures
You pay 24x10 more = 240$ with old plan but get $300 gc worth$255 or so so only about $15 difference. Of course with higher interest rates some ppl may prefer credit up front. Others may prefer the $99pm as a business expense too. Pretty similar

        • Yeah just realised I did a typo.

The old plan is net cost of $1036. I was $100 off.

So overall this new $89 plan is $60 more not $160 more.

And yeah if you can claim on expense then it's fine

  • Anyone got the port in credit? If so is at $10 or $20?

I know its not for sure but some friend is asking me about it……

    • This is a $99 plan with a monthly credit so it would be unlikely you would managed to get another credit on top.

      • They used to have $20 pm if u gassed the Telstra chat teams

    • I managed to get the $20 port in credit on the $69/24 month plan.
I need to get the first bill before it is applied apparently, but I was able to make the chat rep confirm that it was definitely doable in a months time and provide a reference number for the conversation too so I don't have to muck around too much with another rep.

      • I was trying to get this last night but was told a no go since it’s JB plan. Just clarifying that you went to chat with Telstra rep through my Telstra app? How did you get them to agree?

  • I was tempted, but then noticed that this plan doesn't have international calling included. That's a bit ridiculous given the price and a deal breaker for me, unfortunately.

    • That is garbage and stingy, my $8.55 month spare amaysim has IDD to 28 countries!!

  • has anyone seen how long a port out you actually need lately? do they still enforce 30 days?

  • I was hoping on s23 ultra plus watch combo last eofy but this time with the galaxy fold 4/5.

  • Today is the last day of this current GC promo. Does anyone know the pattern? I’ve read elsewhere that in recent months they had $1400 GC and now it’s $1100 GC. Do I seize the day or might the GC promo get more generous in the weeks/months ahead. I can wait 2 months but 6 months would be a bit long!

PS. Long time reader first time poster!

lol I can't believe I spent the time doing this, but looked through catalogue archives and ozb deals; seems like there is a pattern:

turns out novemeber's best, sucks that I missed it :(
not sure whether or not to hold out for next one, current one ends on 12th

      • That’s amazing! I can’t believe you did it either!!! Grateful. Ah man we both missed out on the November Bonus.

        • haha no worries. Ive actually been checking whenever they have a new deal. The last deal was actually 1200, now its back to 1100 ending 20th. (today)

ended up getting an oppo n3 early this month :)

  • Been on Telstra for 2mths and had a shit of a time with reception wigging out in the most random of places like shopping centers and my local cafe.. it's network issues and they know about it but don't publish anything online.. neighbours and people in my area in the same situation it seems..

so i'm practically 2-3 mths in to this deal with a terrible time of reception etc.. so getting out of this contract is a matter of paying back the giftcard value or similar? guess i'm going to have to hit them up on breach of contact somehow as well since they're not delivering on their end either.. far out..
